The 2016 Super High Roller Bowl played down from 35 to 16 players remaining at the ARIA Resort & Casino Las Vegas on Monday, setting up a third day on Tuesday where the survivors will vie for spots at a final table with $15 million on the line.

After a huge first day on Sunday, Timofey "Trueteller" Kuznetsov came into play with the chip lead, but found nothing but a bad case of the Mondays. He quickly came back to the pack, and eventually busted with a pair and a flush draw versus Jason Mercier's flush, half way through the day.

But even before Kuznetsov said his goodbyes, a bevvy of players, including Pratyush Buddiga, Dominik Nitsche, Jake Schindler, Nick Petrangelo, Keith Gipson, Ben Tollerene, Stephen Chidwick, Cary Katz, Bobby Baldwin, Vitaliy Rizhkov, Daniel Colman, and Byron Kaverman, all hit the rail.

The legendary Daniel "Kid Poker" Negreanu also found a way out, busting before Kuznetsov when two pocket pairs let him down. First he doubled Kathy Lehne with sevens versus a weak ace, then he busted to Erik Seidel with deuces versus another weak ace.

While it worked out for Lehne and Seidel, the weak ace was not so good to 2015 Super High Roller Bowl champion Brain Rast, as he shoved the {a-Hearts}{5-Hearts} huge over a Dan Smith three-bet. Smith time-banked twice before looking him up with the {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}, holding to end Rast's title defense and skyrocket to a spot among the leaders as the day wore on.

David Peters, Tony Gregg, and Lehne soon joined Rast on the rail, and suddenly, a new leader emerged.

Several other players moved above the million chip mark, including Tom Marchese, Phil Hellmuth, Dan Shak, and Bryn Kenney, but in the day's penultimate level, Matt Berkey pushed up and over 2 million.

In a three-bet pot, Berkey made top-top out of big slick and called down a three-barrel bluff from Marchese to move into the lead. In the end, he bagged 2.816 million and will ride into the event's third day miles ahead of the other 15 players remaining.

Play will resume at 1 p.m. local time in Las Vegas with plans to play down to a final table of eight, where the top seven spots will be paid, or through seven more levels, whichever comes first.

Of course, The PokerNews Live Reporting team will be on hand for every raise, three-bet, and showdown, so tune in Tuesday as the excitement of the 2016 Super High Roller Bowl continues.

While you wait for play to resume, check out Sarah Herring's interview with Berkey.

Mercier Doubles Through Kenney

[user139916] • Nível 14: 6,000-12,000, 2,000 ante

Bryn Kenney raised to 27,000 from the button, Jason Mercier three-bet to 78,000 from the small blind, Kenny four-bet to effectively 650,000, and Mercier called all in.

Kenney: {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}
Mercier: {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}

The board came down {K-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{4-Spades}{5-Spades}{2-Spades}, giving Mercier kings and fives to double through Kenney.

Lehne Relents

• Nível 14: 6,000-12,000, 2,000 ante

Kathy Lehne shoved in for 130,000, and after it folded around to Rainer Kempe, he made the call with the {k-Hearts}{q-Clubs}.

Lehne was racing for her tournament life with the {9-Clubs}{9-Spades}, and held the advantage through the turn on a {2-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{7-Spades}{6-Clubs} run out.

However, the {k-Diamonds} river did her in, making Kempe the bigger pair and sending Lehne to the rail.

Gregg Gives In

• Nível 14: 6,000-12,000, 2,000 ante

Tony Gregg made it 50,000, leaving himself just 4,000 chips behind. Bill Perkins was the only caller from the small blind.

Perkins then set Gregg all in on a {a-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} flop and Gregg obliged. Perkins was miles ahead with the {a-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} versus Gregg's {5-Hearts}{4-Hearts} and top pair held through the {8-Spades} turn and {10-Diamonds} river.

Gregg Doubles Up

• Nível 13: 6,000-12,000, 1,000 ante

Dan Smith made it 30,000 to go and Bill Perkins called. Tony Gregg then shoved all in for 138,000 and Smith was the only caller.

It was Gregg's {a-Clubs}{9-Clubs} versus Smith's {k-Hearts}{10-Spades} holding on a {j-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{8-Spades}{2-Clubs}{9-Hearts} board to give him the double up.
