Boivin Leads as 54 Players Advance from Day 3 of 2022 Wynn Millions; Moreno Looks to Defend

Nível 18 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Thomas Boivin
Thomas Boivin

The 2022 Wynn Millions began with 1,075 runners, of which 154 players returned on Tuesday for Day 3 action. After five 90-minute levels of play, the field was whittled down to just 54 players with Thomas Boivin and his stack of 2.5 million leading the pack.

Perhaps the most interesting story is that of defending champ Andrew Moreno, who is looking to do the improbably by defending his title and going back-to-back in the first two Wynn Millions. If you recall, last July Moreno topped a 1,328-entry field to win the inaugural Wynn Millions for $1,460,106 after a three-way deal. Moreno knows what it takes to win, and he’s also on a bit of a heater after taking down the Venetian DeepStack Event #27: $2,500 Ultimate Stack last month for $242,293. Only time will tell if Moreno can repeat, but he’ll have 985,000 to work with on Day 4.

Others to make it through were Hyo Joo (2,080,000), Ian Matakis (1,775,000), Sylvain Loosli (1,305,000), Sam Soverel (1,300,000), Tony Sinishtaj (1,140,000), Shaun Deeb (1,015,000), Brock Wilson (530,000), and Vanessa Kade (485,000).

With only the top 116 getting paid, 38 players would leave empty-handed including Matas Cimbolas, Scott Ball, Matt Berkey, Christina Gollins, Steve Begleiter, and a trio of players who busted on the bubble (Leo Worthington-Leese, Ali Imsirovic, and Jake Schindler).

Once the bubble burst the in-the-money finished racked up quickly. Among those to earn a payday on Day 3 were Landon Tice (114th - $22,029), Tristan Wade (104th - $23,901), Aaron Massey (98th - $26,005), Scott Baumstein (88th - $28,475), Ben Yu (80th - $31,323), last year’s fourth-place finisher Salim Admon (74th - $31,323), JC Tran (73rd - $31,323), Daniel Lazrus (66th - $34,549), Nick Schulman (63rd - $34,549), and Johan Guilbert (55th - $38,384).

The surviving 54 players will return at noon local time on Wednesday for Day 4 action, which is slated to play five more levels. PokerNews will be on-site to capture all the action, so be sure to join us then to see who thrives and who fails to survive.

Joo Claims Massive Pot Through Daniels

Nível 18 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Hyo Joo
Hyo Joo

With roughly 240,000 in the pot on a {k-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{8-Hearts}{7-Hearts} board, Hyo Joo bet 75,000, and Jake Daniels called.

The {9-Diamonds} completed the board and Joo bet 725,000. Daniels thought for a while before putting in the chips to call.

Joo tabled {k-Spades}{k-Hearts} and raked in the pot as Daniels mucked, although he later said he had {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}.

"It all started with ace-three," Daniels mentioned, referring to an earlier hand where Joo was dominated but hit a three-outer to keep his tournament life alive, and Joo now chips up to over two million near the end of the day.

Five More Hands

Nível 18 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante

The tournament staff just announced that each table will play five more hands before bagging and tagging on Day 3 of the 2022 Wynn Millions. Stay tuned for some chip counts and a recap of today's action.

Goodbye, Mr. Anderson

Nível 18 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante

Francis Anderson got his stack of approximately 400,000 all in preflop and was flipping for his tournament life against Daniel Moran.

Francis Anderson: {q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}
Daniel Moran: {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}

It was a classic race and Anderson was just looking to hold to stay alive. Unfortunately for him, that proved easier said than done as the board ran out {10-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} to send him out the door in 56th place for $38,384.

Ladines Doubles Through Joo

Nível 18 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante

With roughly 130,000 in the pot on a {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{3-Spades} board, Joshua Ladines had about 90,000 already committed to the pot and was facing a jam by Hyo Joo. After some time, Ladines called for his 325,000 chips.

Joshua Ladines: {q-Spades}{10-Hearts}
Hyo Joo: {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}

Ladines was ahead but needed to fade outs, and the {10-Clubs} completed the board to improve him to a boat and secure his double.

Defending Champ Moreno Still Cruising

Nível 18 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Andrew Moreno
Andrew Moreno

Andrew Moreno won the Wynn Millions $10 million guaranteed no-limit hold'em tournament last summer for over $1.4 million.

The San Diego native is not only still in it again with just 58 players remaining, but he's sitting in front of a solid stack at nearly 750,000.

Could we have a repeat performance? If so, it would go down as one of the greatest accomplishments in poker history.
