Event #19 : THE GIANT Day 1b

2017 Bracelet
2017 Bracelet

Welcome to the second Day 1 flight of THE GIANT at the WSOP 2017 Rio All suite Casino and Hotel. With a $365 buy-in, this is the most affordable live No-Limit Hold’em event ever offered for a WSOP gold bracelet.

Day 1a drew 1,629 entries, creating a prize pool of $488,700 with a min-cash worth $557. Jeffrey Brin ended Day 1a as the chip leader with an impressive stack of 718,00.

This is the second of five Friday night flights with the remainder on June 23, 30, and July 7, with Day 2 on Saturday July 8.

This is a brand new event for 2017 and, when the schedule was announced, Ty Stewart WSOP Executive Director said:

“This 2017 schedule reflects our continuing goal to broaden poker’s appeal and encourage first timers and recreational players to come experience the WSOP for themselves, With the new $365 buy-in Giant anchoring Friday nights, alongside a tent pole event awarding millions every weekend, we believe we have the offering to be well worth the trip. Plus, for the serious and high-stakes player, we remain committed to having the most diverse schedule of events of any tournament in the world. Whatever your game or bankroll, let the bracelet chase begin.”

Cards are in the air at 7 p.m. with play scheduled to last eighteen 20-minute levels or down to 10 players, whichever comes first. Late registration is open for eight levels which will be approximately 10 p.m. Play is expected to end at around 2:40 a.m.

Players will play their Day 1 on any of the five starting flights they choose and they will play into the money on Day 1 (just like Colossus did in 2016). Anyone surviving their Day 1 will have their chips put into play on Day 2 (if they choose not to forfeit them to attempt another flight) on July 8, with the final table taking place July 9. This event features unlimited reentry during the open registration period. People can end up cashing in multiple flights, however, only one chip stack can be carried forward to Day 2 play.

The Giant will still pay 15% of the field, based on the individual flight number of entries, and everyone on Day 1 who cashes can receive their prize money that day. The remaining prize money from each flight gets carried over to Day 2, along with the other flights’ remaining prize money, to combine and create the remaining prize pool the Day 2 players will vie for.

Nível 1 : 25/50, 0 ante

The tournament director has issued the “shuffle up and deal” and play is underway at the second starting flight of The GIANT.

There are 695 eager poker players seated so far, all dreaming of a WSOP gold bracelet and a huge payday.

The starting stack is 20,000, which is 400 big blinds, at least for the first 20 minutes!

Rory Henton Has the Nuts

Nível 1 : 25/50, 0 ante

“They keep making me play. I just want to play four hands an hour, but they keep giving me good hands.” So said Rory Henton as he was involved in another hand in level one.

The flop was {q-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} and a bet from Henton saw him win another small pot.

Henton is wearing a T-Shirt with a fierce looking squirrel on it with the slogan, "I’ve got the nuts, I’m all in."

Duff Charette

Nível 1 : 25/50, 0 ante

Duff Charette called a bet on the turn of a board reading {4-Spades}{q-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} and then called a shove from his opponent when the {9-Diamonds} hit the river.

“I got there,” Charette said as he showed his {j-Diamonds}{10-Spades} rivered straight. His opponent could only show {j-Clubs}{10-Clubs}.

Charette opened the next hand and check-called a bet of 500 on the flop of {9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{6-Spades}. Another 500 check-call on the turn card {q-Diamonds} and he led for 1,500 on the river {6-Diamonds}.

His opponent called with {9-Hearts}{8-Spades} but his flopped two pairs lost out to the {k-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} of Charette.

Patriot David "ODB" Baker Joins The Giant

Nível 2 : 50/100, 0 ante
David Baker
David Baker

While many players who are yet to make a name for themselves entered the tournament, a player on Table 601 stands out even in higher-stake fields.

It's David "ODB" Baker, a World Series of Poker powerhouse. Baker has notched 68 WSOP cashes so far (main tour and Circuit combined) and this stat puts him in tied-32nd place along with Max Pescatori and John Juanda.

Baker has one WSOP bracelet in his showcase and 15 top-ten finishes. He's racked up $2,600,000 in tournaments organised by the famous WSOP brand.

Looking at his outfit today, it wouldn't be hard to guess where Baker hails from. Sporting the reigning NFL champions Patriots T-shirt, Baker is proud to be from New England. More Patriot than a Giant, Baker surely wouldn't mind adding another stellar result to his name here in The Giant.

Roland Israelashvili Busts Two Blind

Nível 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

Roland Israelashvili is currently in a PLO tournament in another room, but he is also registered for The Giant with his stack in play and he just paid a visit to his table to shove all in blind twice.

That tactic sure worked out for Israelashvili as he busted two players to grow his stack to 40,000 and give himself some folding time.
