Event #19: THE GIANT - $365 No-Limit Hold'em
Dia 1e Iniciado
Welcome to Day 1e the final flight of THE GIANT at the WSOP 2017 hosted at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino. With a $365 buy-in, this is the most affordable live no-limit hold’em event ever offered for a WSOP gold bracelet.
This is the last of five Friday night flights with Day 2 set to see the combined field united on Saturday 8th July at 2 p.m.
This is a brand new event for 2017 and, when the schedule was announced, Ty Stewart, WSOP Executive Director, said:
“This 2017 schedule reflects our continuing goal to broaden poker’s appeal and encourage first timers and recreational players to come experience the WSOP for themselves, With the new $365 buy-in Giant anchoring Friday nights, alongside a tent pole event awarding millions every weekend, we believe we have the offering to be well worth the trip. Plus, for the serious and high-stakes player, we remain committed to having the most diverse schedule of events of any tournament in the world. Whatever your game or bankroll, let the bracelet chase begin.”
Cards are in the air at 7 p.m. with play scheduled to last 18 20-minute levels or down to 10 players, whichever comes first. Late registration is open for eight levels which will be approximately 10 p.m. Play is expected to end at around 2:30 a.m.
This event features unlimited reentry during the open registration period. People can end up cashing in multiple flights, however only one chip stack can be carried forward to Day 2 play. The Giant will still pay 15% of the field, based on the individual flight number of entries, and everyone on Day 1 who cashes can receive their prize money that day. The remaining prize money from each flight gets carried over to Day 2, along with the other flights’ remaining prize money, to combine and create the remaining prize pool the Day 2 players will vie for.

Get set for a huge Friday night as the final Day 1 flight of the GIANT gets underway following the, “Shuffle up and deal!”
There are already 2,011 players in their seats in Amazon, Pavilion, and Brasilia Rooms, as one of the biggest events at WSOP 2017 continues. That is a larger field the any of the other Day 1s, and registration is still open for eight levels.
The GIANT is the most affordable WSOP live bracelet event ever offered, and this has no doublt contributed to its appeal and large field size.
The GIANT has also drawn praise for its scheduling. It is essentially a three-day event that has multiple Day 1s on Friday evenings with the final days on the weekend, perfect for those who have regular weekday jobs and are looking to challenge themselves at the World Series of Poker without major disruption to their lives.
There will be a number of pros in the field, with many taking their seats a bit later, but one or two have been already spotted in Amazon in Level 1.

There is plenty of time to register for The GIANT, but there are currently long lines to get to the registration desk due to a number of players queuing to register for the $10,000 Main Event, which has its first Day 1 tomorrow.
There is an additional area for GIANT players to enter to re-enter, which is in Pavilion in the single table satellite area.

There are more and more people packing into the various rooms in the Rio where The GIANT is being played. There are now 2,686 entries, with little sign of it slowing down.
There are signs of a few more well-known faces in the field, though, and there is a real Friday night, eve-of-the-Main-Event buzz at the moment.
