Fresh off a deep run just last week in Event #53 and another deep run just a few weeks before that in Event #35, Nathan Gamble is back at it again, bagging up the chip lead in Event #60: $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship.

Gamble's one WSOP bracelet came last year in a $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo event so he's making it clear that this is one of his best games. Gamble bagged up 312,800 chips at the end of the day which was good enough for the chip lead. He'll look to continue his streak in Omaha Hi-Lo events this series with another cash here in Event #60.

Others who bagged up on Day 1 include the likes of Scott Bohlman (184,200), Ryan Laplante (165,700), Ari Engel (153,400), Eric Kurtzman (123,000), Carol Fuchs (112,100), Randy Ohel (97,3000, Daniel Negreanu (92,900), Jesse Martin (50,100), and Phil Hellmuth (25,400) to just to name a few.

Of the 218 runners who showed up today, 125 survived. Ohel was one who almost didn't make it through the day. He got his chips in on one of the last hands of the night with a pair, straight draw, and low draw and ended up making a straight and the nut low against his opponent to double up right as play was about to end.

Defending champion Bryce Yockey made it through the day as well, bagging up 93,700 chips. He'll be back on Saturday to continue to defend his title.

There were some who didn't make it through the day, however. Amongst those that didn't survive were Kyle Miaso, Adam Owen, Phil Hui, Darryll Fish, Matt Glantz, Daniel Ospina, Dylan Linde, John Hennigan, David Benyamine, and Kate Hoang to name a few.

Two others notables who didn't survive were Shaun Deeb and Mike Leah. Deeb described the details of his bustout hand to us early in the afternoon. According to Deeb, he and Leah both flopped straight against Talal Shakerchi's set. All three got the chips in and Shakerchi ended up making a full house on the river to scoop the massive pot. That sent Deeb to the rail while Leah was left short and never quite recovered.

Play will pick back up on Saturday, June 30, at 2pm with blinds kicking back off at 1,000/2,000 in level 11. Players will play another ten one-hour levels over the course of the day.

Registration remains open until the start of Day 2 so it's likely that some players will still enter the tournament. Becuase of that, a prize pool will not be announced until Day 2, but when it is, it will be posted right away.

PokerNews will be back to cover all the action on Saturday so be sure to come back so you don't miss a thing.

Randy Ohel Earns a Double

Nível 10 : 800/1,600, 0 ante

There was a flop of {9-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{2-Spades} and Randy Ohel had 9,000 worth of bets out in front of him. There was 1,600 in the middle of the table and Ohel was squaring off against one opponent. The player decided to make a pot sized bet of 25,600 and Ohel only thought for a bit before moving all in for the rest of it. His opponent quickly called.

"I don't have much," the player said.

"I don't have much either, but I have a little more than that," Ohel said upon seeing his opponents hand.

Randy Ohel: {3-Spades}{5-Spades}{4-Spades}{5-Hearts}
Opponent: {A-Spades}{4-Hearts}{8-Spades}{10-Clubs}

Ohel had a pair of threes and a straight draw while his opponent only had a low draw.

The turn was the {A-Diamonds} and that gave Ohel a straight and the nut low and he held on the {7-Diamonds} river, allowing him to double up to over 70,000 chips.

Mizrachi Doubles Through Schulman

Nível 10 : 800/1,600, 0 ante

On a flop of {Q-Spades}{7-Spades}{7-Clubs} Nick Schulman had 8,000 worth of chips in front of him when Robert Mizrachi moved all in for 19,000 total. Schulman dropped into the tank to think it over for a bit before he eventually decided to call.

Robert Mizrachi: {A-Spades}{K-Spades}{K-Hearts}{6-Hearts}
Nick Schulman: {A-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}

Mizrachi was in the lead with his kings and sevens while Schulman would need to catch up with just ace high and the sevens on the board.

The turn was the {10-Clubs} which didn't change anything, and the river was the {A-Clubs}. This gave Schulman a pair of aces, but Mizrachi made a better pair of aces with his king kicker to scoop the pot and double up.

Shak the Unkillable

Nível 10 : 800/1,600, 0 ante

There was 22,000 in the pot on the flop of {A-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{4-Hearts} and action checked over to Dan Shak, who moved all in for about 10,000. James Calderaro called before the third player in the hand made a raise to 45,000. Calderaro then dropped into the tank.

"I got a hand here," Calderaro said peeping his cards a few times. He eventually settled on a fold and that meant Shak and his opponent would turn up their cards.

Dan Shak: {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}{7-Hearts}{5-Hearts}
Opponent: {A-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{2-Spades}

Shak was behind as his opponent flopped two pair and a low already but he still had some outs to a flush.

The turn was the {7-Clubs} which gave Shak a few more outs as he made two pair as well and the river was the {Q-Hearts}. That gave him the flush and earned him half the pot.

Calderaro later said that he had a higher flush draw than Shak and had he called, Shak would've been eliminated.

"Shak, the unkillable," Robert Campbell said after the hand from a few seats over. "You've got dragon's blood."

Hellmuth Loses a Small One to O'Hara

Nível 10 : 800/1,600, 0 ante

Phil Hellmuth opened with a raise to 3,200 from middle position and Ian O'Hara called in the big blind.

The flop was {7-Spades}{7-Clubs}{9-Hearts} and O'Hara checked to Hellmuth who bet 3,000. O'Hara called.

The turn was the {4-Hearts} and both players checked. The river was the {9-Clubs} and O'Hara led out with a bet of 6,500 and Hellmuth promptly released his hand and started ranting, saying something about how O'Hara can't be bluffing.

O'Hara collected the pot and moved to around 65,000 while Hellmuth was left with just 36,500.
