Matusow Doubles Through Rogers

Nível 15 : 1,500/3,000, 800 ante
Mike Matusow
Mike Matusow

PL 2-7 Triple Draw

Mike Matusow defended big blind from an Aaron Rogers open and took two, with Rogers taking three.

"I'm gonna look at one and I'm gonna pot it," Matusow said.

He put in the requisite chips and Rogers called for 12,500. Both players took one and Matusow moved in dark for about 15,000. Rogers called and they both took one again

Aaron Rogers: {6-}{4-}{3-}{2-}
Mike Matusow: {7-}{5-}{3-}{2-}

Rogers flipped over a nine so Matusow needed to improve. He squeezed his holding.

"Nothing across, I can't win," Matusow declared.

Seconds later, though, he flipped over the {4-Hearts} for the nuts. He apologized profusely and whipped out his glasses, saying he couldn't see properly and would be wearing them going forward.

Pescatori Eliminated as Weinman Doubles Through Sammartino

Nível 14 : 1,200/2,400, 600 ante
Max Pescatori
Max Pescatori

NL Five-Card Draw

Dario Sammartino opened for 5,000 and Max Pescatori shoved all in for 15,400. Daniel Weinman called in the small blind and Sammartino made it three to the draw. Weinman took one, Sammartino three and Pescatori three.

Weinman checked and Sammartino tanked awhile before announcing all in.

"I was pretty sure you were going to shove," Weinman said, taking a deep breath and leaning back.

After about a minute and getting a count of his own stack of about 101,000, Weinman splashed in a few chips to call. He had {4-Clubs}{4-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{7-Clubs} for trips. Sammartino opened {k-}{k-}{10-}{8-}{6-} and Pescatori showed what looked like aces, so the trip fours took down the monster pot and busted "The Italian Pirate."

Kelsall Busts Ferguson

Nível 13 : 1,000/2,000, 500 ante
Chris Ferguson
Chris Ferguson

NL 2-7 Single Draw

Andrew Kelsall raised and Chris Ferguson moved all in for 10,600. Kelsall called and drew one while Ferguson patted.

Ferguson opened {9-}{8-}{6-}{5-}{2-} and Kelsall observed, "so my nine is good," showing {7-}{6-}{4-}{3-}.

Kelsall needed a deuce, eight or a nine to bust Ferguson and he turned up {2-} to make Number Two.

Henson Draws Number Two

Nível 11 : 600/1,200, 300 ante
Ray Henson
Ray Henson

PL 2-7 Triple Draw

Shiva Dudani made it 2,400 in the first position and Ray Henson responded with a three-bet out of the small blind, making it 8,000. Dudani announced a pot-sized raise and both players quickly realized that they were just going to stuff it in pre.

Both drew one on the first draw and Henson then stood pat. Dudani took one again on each of the remaining draws.

Henson opened {7-}{6-}{4-}{3-}{2-} for Number Two but he hadn't locked it up just yet.

Dudani had {7-}{5-}{3-}{2-} and a four would give him a wheel to eliminate Henson. Dudani, however, peeled a five and had to ship Henson 42,900 in chips.

Welcome to Day 2 of Event #40: $2,500 Mixed Big Bet

John Hennigan
John Hennigan

One of the more unique events on the World Series of Poker schedule, Event #40: $2,500 Mixed Big Bet, is set for a Day 2 that will start at 2 p.m. at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino.

While most mixed games are comprised of a cadre of limit poker variants, the big bet mix put together by the WSOP, this one features Big O, 2-7 single draw, pot-limit Omaha hi-lo, no-limit five-card draw, pot-limit Omaha and pot-limit 2-7 triple draw. Some games include a button ante to pump up the pot even more.

The six-handed format screams action and thats exactly what happened on a busy Day 1 that saw 51 of 205 entries advance. Several notables are among that number, including none other than "Johnny World" Hennigan who hopped into the event in a "who loves it more" moment right after finishing second in the $50,000 Poker Players Championship.

Jeff Lisandro, John Racener, Eli Elezra, Mike Matusow, and Brandon Shack-Harris also bagged big stacks and are in good shape, while Naoya Kihara will return to the chip lead to start today.

The Day 2 schedule calls for 10 more levels with 15-minute breaks after every two levels and a dinner break after the sixth level of play. Things will kick off with blinds of 400/800 in the multiple-round betting games and 500/1,000 in the two single-draw variants.

Stay tuned to PokerNews to see who will best position themselves for $122,138 and a bracelet in this fun, exciting event.
