Event #25: $1,500 Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better

Dia 3 Iniciado

Welcome to Day 3 of Event #25: $1,500 Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better

Eli Elezra
Eli Elezra

Two days of Event #25 are in the books and it's time to award another bracelet to a new winner as Day 3 of Event #25: $1,500 Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better is set to go with a 2 p.m. start to play down from 23 players to a winner.

Or will it be an old bracelet winner?

Old in the experienced sense, of course, but that's looking likely based on the chip counts heading into the final day. While chip leader Benjamin Dobson has never claimed WSOP gold, the next three players in the counts will be very familiar to anyone who has been following the WSOP over the last several years: Barry Greenstein, Jesse Martin and Eli Elezra. All three are multiple bracelet winners — Greenstein and Elezra with three and Martin with two — and while they all trail Dobson by a sizable margin, they're undoubtedly three of the competitors who bear watching as the tournament winds down.

Other notables heading into Day 3 include two men less famous for their poker play: James Woods and Matt Savage. The former a world-famous actor and the latter one of the premier tournament directors of the past couple of decades, both would make interesting winners as well.

When the tournament resumes at 2 p.m. local time, the remaining players will try to scoop — or at least chop — pots with limits of 10,000/20,000. They'll play down to a winner, who will claim $173,528 in prize money. Stay tuned to PokerNews to find out if one of the old hats, one of the recognizable names or some new face emerges to take it down.

Rossi Doubles Through Gundrum

Nível 21 : 10,000/20,000, 2,000 ante

Esther Rossi bet into two players with {a-Spades}{7-Clubs} up and only Trent Gundrum, who had two babies called. Rossi continue to bet until she was all in for 8,000 on sixth.

Rossi: {a-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} / {a-Spades}{7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}
Gundrum: {10-Hearts}{8-Hearts} / {2-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}

Gundrum's flush draw was dead but he could still get half with a low card that didn't pair him. He flipped over the {q-Diamonds} though and Rossi pumped her fist in celebration.

Derke Scrapping

Nível 21 : 10,000/20,000, 2,000 ante

Nicholas Derke got his last few chips in on an early street with {q-Spades}{6-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} against Barry Greenstein. Derke made queens up and was up against a live straight draw on the end with Greenstein holding {9-}{10-}{j-}{q-} and needing an eight or king. He squeezed out a {9-} for a worthless pair.

The next hand, Derke completed with {a-Spades} and Jesse Martin called with {7-Spades}. Despite catching an {8-Hearts}, Martin mucked to a bet on fouth because Derke paired with the {a-Hearts}.

Gegan Fades Finne's Outs

Nível 21 : 10,000/20,000, 2,000 ante

Joseph Gegan: {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} / {7-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{7-Clubs} / {K-Clubs}
Tim Finne: {8-Hearts}{7-Spades} {6-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} / {2-Spades}
Eli Elezra: {X-}{X-} / {Q-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} - fold

Initially a four-way pot was reduced to just two contenders after fourth street. Joseph Gegan bet, Eli Elezra called and Tim Finne raised. Gegan made it 28,000 for all his chips and only Finne called.

Gegan had a pair of aces while Finne had an open-ended straight draw. Finne bricked and couldn't make a low either, allowing Gegan to double with aces up.

Nicholas Derke Eliminated in 22nd Place ($4,899)

Nível 21 : 10,000/20,000, 2,000 ante
Nicholas Derke
Nicholas Derke

Trent Gundrum was facing a completion and two calls and he raised for most of his remaining chips with {3-Clubs} up. Barry Greenstein called, as did Nicholas Derke and Jesse Martin. On fourth, Derke bet with two to a low, Martin raised two suited low cards, Gundrum called off 7,000 and Derke reraised. He got the rest in on fith.

Gundrum: {6-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}/{3-Clubs}{2-Spades}{a-Spades}
Greenstein: {x-}{x-}/{8-Spades}{10-Clubs} - folded on fourth street
Derke: {4-Clubs}{3-Hearts}/{6-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}
Martin: {9-Hearts}{4-Hearts}/{6-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{7-Spades}

Gundrum would catch {3-Spades} and {5-Spades} to make two pair and a low. Derke bricked his low draw while Martin caught a {5-Clubs} to make a straight and scoop the side pot while chopping the main with Gundrum's superior low.

Martin Pressures Greenstein

Nível 21 : 10,000/20,000, 2,000 ante

Jesse Martin: {X-}{X-} / {3-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}
Barry Greenstein: {X-}{X-} / {7-Clubs}{J-Spades}{8-Hearts}{10-Clubs} - fold

Jesse Martin and Barry Greenstein tangled in a pot which saw Martin barrel on fourth, fifth and sixth street. Greenstein quickly called the first two bets but paused when Martin's board paired. Greenstein had four to a straight out but decided to waive the white flag.
