Event #40: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em

Dia 1 Concluído

Nicolas Fierro Leads The Final 249; Matt Berkey Not Far Behind

Nível 11 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Matt Berkey- Towards The Top
Matt Berkey- Towards The Top

Today’s $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em tournament got more runners then any of the preceding $1,500 events, with the exception of the “Millionaire Maker”, as 2,161 players took to the felt today. After 11 grueling levels of poker, Nicolas Fierro leads the final 249 players, after bagging up a huge stack of 176,500. He is 30,000 clear of the next two stacks, Jonathan Driscoll (142,000) and Jeremy Menard (141,100), who were sitting elbow-to-elbow for the last half of the day.

As is always the case in these events, we lost a ton of notables on the way to completing the day. Some of the many who came and went today included David “ODB” Baker, Phil Ivey, Victor Ramdin, Bertrand Grospellier, Matt Waxman, Greg Raymer, Antonio Esfandiari, and Jake Cody, amongst many others.

It wasn’t all bad news for our notables, as there were plenty of familiar faces who bagged up tonight. This list includes Matt Berkey (126,600), Jake Balisger (85,600), Jeremy Ausmus (70,000), Tuan Le (59,000), Garry Gates (51,900), Matt Salsberg (35,400), and our very own Frank Op de Woerd, who will come into tomorrow with 43,600.

The 249 survivors from today will be back tomorrow at 1 PM to play ten more levels of poker, with the hopes of getting down to a final table, though it is unlikely. Only 243 of them will make the money, meaning six unfortunate players will be walking away empty handed. As always, we will be here the entire day bringing you all the action, so be sure to come back to check out our coverage. Thanks for tuning in, and good night from the Rio!

Near the Top

Nível 11 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Marc Davis, who looks to be near the top of the leaderboard as we approach the end of play tonight, currently sits with 122,000 in chips.

He requested we publish a personal message, which is not usually what we post, but we elected to make an exception for Marc. He says he misses his kid, and he looks forward to returning home next week. Here's hoping for a happy reunion!

Three More Hands

Nível 11 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

The tournament director has announced that each table will play three more hands before players bag their chips for the night.

At the moment, it looks like the two probable chip leaders are seated directly next to each other. Jeremy Menard has 145,000, and Jonathan Driscoll sits with 141,00 directly to his left.

Ausmus Makes Right Call to Chop

Nível 11 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

We walked up to the table to see Jeremy Ausmus and Tuan Le in the middle of a heads up pot. The board was on the turn, reading {4-Spades}{7-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{6-Spades}, and Ausmus fired 5,500 into the middle of a pot that had about 11,000. Le made the call, and the river was the {8-Hearts}, putting a straight on board. Ausmus checked, and Le took it as an invitation to fired out 9,000. Ausmus thought for about 30 seconds before calling, and Le turned over {10-Clubs}{6-Clubs}, playing the board. Ausmus showed {k-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}, and the two players chopped up the pot.

After that hand, Ausmus is at 82,000, while Le is sitting on 39,000.

No More Vu

Nível 11 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Tommy Vu went all in to put himself at risk. He held {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds} and his opponent had {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}. He was racing for a chance to keep his gloves on and continue his day.

The board did not bring any help when it came {9-Hearts}{10-Spades}{2-Hearts}{4-Spades}{3-Diamonds}. Vu was done and he can go enjoy the rest of his Perrier.

Scott give Nicholson a High Flopped Five

Nível 10 : 400/800, 100 ante

The board read out {a-Spades}{8-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{4-Spades}{j-Diamonds} and the two opponents going into battle for a large pot were Kara Scott and David Nicholson. The action was on Scott and she moved all in for 12,000.

Nicholson went into thinking mode. He decided to see what Scott had and made the call. Scott turned over {5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} for a flopped set. Nicholson mucked and Scott took down the pot. She moved up the board with 40,000.
