Levi Berger Holds Big Lead, Clements Looking for Bracelet #3

Nível 20 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Levi Berger-Chip Leader
Levi Berger-Chip Leader

We were expecting an action packed ten levels here at Day 2 of Event #11 $2,500 No-Limit Hold’em Six Handed, and boy, we were not disappointed. Everywhere we looked, players were four-betting and five-betting each other, and at the end of all the madness, Levi Berger leads the final 14 going into Day 3. He bagged up a whopping 1.42 million chips, which is good for more then a half-million chip lead over the field.

Berger was all but out of this tournament in level 19 when he got in a huge all in confrontation with James Carroll. Berger ended up calling a six-bet shove from Carroll with queens, and ran square into the pocket aces of Carroll. However, Berger turned an unlikely two outer, and he rode that wave to a giant chip lead at night's end.

The day began with 122 player, but only 108 of them would make the money. Amongst the unlucky 14 who walked away empty handed were John Beauprez, who just won the $1,500 Six-Max a few days ago, Mike Leah, and Corey Burbick, who was the stone bubble boy when his Ace-King couldn’t catch up to the pocket fours of Andrew Lichtenberger.

From there, we lost a bunch of notables in the money, including Erick Lindgren (102nd), JC Tran (83rd), David Peters (41st), David Randall (31st), Chino Rheem (28th), Chris Moorman (25th), and Jeff Lisandro (17th).

That’s enough about the players who didn’t make Day 3. Those who will be coming back tomorrow, and are still alive for the gold bracelet and the $473,019 top prize, includie Tuan Le (873,000) and Scott Clements (842,000), who are second and third in chips coming into tomorrow. Eddy Sabat (694,000), Jacob Bazeley (638,000), and 2012 bracelet winner Clifford Goldkind (318,000) also advanced to the final day.

We will kick back off again tomorrow at 1 PM, with the plan to play down to a winner. If one hasn't emerged by the end of ten levels, then the remaining players will come back on Friday for a fourth day, but hopefully it won’t come to that. Pokernews.com will have all the hand-for-hand action at the final table, so be sure to tune back in then!

Thad Smith Eliminated in 15th ($17,657)

Nível 20 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Thad Smith - 15th Place
Thad Smith - 15th Place

On the last hand of the night, Thad Smith raised it from the button, and Levi Berger called from the small blind. The flop came down {a-Clubs}{10-}{4-Clubs}, and the two players got in a raising war that saw all the chips get into the middle.

Smith: {a-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}
Berger: {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs}

Berger's middle pair and flush draw was a coin flip against Smith, and Berger just went ahead and ended it on the turn with the {8-Clubs}. The meaningless river was the {5-Hearts}, and with that knockout, Berger bagged a huge lead with a stack of 1,420,000

Nível 20 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Amir Lehavot - 16th Place
Amir Lehavot - 16th Place

Amir Lehavot opened from under the gun to 16,000, and he was called by Scott Clements in the cutoff, Tuan Le on the button, and Marcio Cid in the big blind.

The flop came down {k-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}, and it was checked to Lehavot, who fired out 25,000. Clements made it 56,500. The other two got out of the way. Lehavot moved all in his last 136,000, and Clements made the call.

Clements: {k-Spades}{q-Spades}
Lehavot: {9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}

Lehavot was looking to complete his straight, but it never came, as the board ran down {4-Diamonds} and {4-Hearts}, boosting Clements to 840,000.

Jeff Lisandro Eliminated in 17th Place ($17,657)

Nível 20 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Jeff Lisandro - 17th Place
Jeff Lisandro - 17th Place

Scott Clements raised it up in the cutoff, and Jeff Lisandro moved all in from the button for his last 190,000. When it got back to Clements, he made the call.

Clements: {8-}{8-}
Lisandro: {7-}{7-}

Clements had Lisandro barely one upped, which unfortunately for Lisandro fans meant that he was in a world of hurt. We didn't catch the board, but we know that Clements held, and that he now has 605,000.

James Carroll Eliminated in 18th Place ($17,657)

Nível 20 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
James Carroll - 17th Place
James Carroll - 17th Place

James Carroll hadn't even had a chance to unrack his chips from the redraw when he shoved all in from under the gun for his last 118,000. It folded around to Thad Smith in the big blind, and he tanked for a minute or so before calling.

Carroll: {3-Hearts}{3-Spades}
Smith: {5-Diamonds}{5-Spades}

Smith's small pair had Carroll's pair crushed, and the board ran clean for Smith, coming down {6-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{5-Hearts}. With that pot, Smith vaulted up to 300,000, while Carroll is our first player eliminated at the final three tables.

Moorman Taken Out

Nível 18 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Chris Moorman
Chris Moorman

We caught the action on the flop, which had come down {a-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{7-Hearts}. Chris Moorman started the action with a bet of 21,500, and David Gonia made it 51,000 to go. Moorman thought over his options for a while before moving all in for 175,000 total, and Gonia beat him into the pot.

Moorman:{q-Spades}{10-Clubs}
Gonia: {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}

Moorman was in a world of hurt, and any hopes of a miracle comeback were doused when the {7-Clubs} hit the turn. The meaningless river was the {4-Diamonds}, and Gonia scored the huge pot, while also knocking out one of the toughest players left in the field.

Clements Takes Lead as Dinner Nears

Scott Clements
Scott Clements

Chino Rheem had built up a huge chip lead on the rest of the field at his starting table, but he has since been moved, and his stack is spiraling out of control. In the latest hand, Scott Clements raised to 6,500 in the cutoff, and Roman Valerstein called on the button. Rheem three bet it to 20,000 from the small blind, and Clements was the lone caller.

Rheem fired out another 20,000 after the flop came {q-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}, and Clements took some time before announcing all in, having Rheem covered. Rheem frustratingly folded, and after that hand, he is all the way down to 116,000, while Clements is our new big chip leader with 490,000.

Three Hands Lead to Kihara's Bust

Nível 15 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Naoya Kihara
Naoya Kihara

We just got served up a reminder of just how crazy a game no-limit hold'em can be. Just fifteen minutes ago, Naoya Kihara was sitting on 200,000, and was sitting on a very comfrtable stack. However, after playing three hands in ten minutes, he was gone. Here's how it started.

Nicholas Grippo made it 5,000 to go, and Chino Rheem and Kihara tagged along from the blinds. The flop came {4-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{8-Hearts}, and Rheem checked to Kihara, who fired out 7,000. Grippo folded, but Rheem threw the call in. The turn brought the {a-Clubs}, and Rheem checked again. Kihara fired out 14,000, and this time, Rheem raised it up to 32,000. Kihara called, and the {9-Spades} hit the river.

After about 20 seconds, Rheem started to cut out a ton of chips, and eventually fired out a pot sized bet of 70,000. Kihara spent about two minutes in the tank before sliding in the call, and to the shock of Kihara, Rheem flipped over {j-Spades}{10-Hearts} for the nut straight on the river. Kihara said "nice bluff" and slid the chips over. On the very next hand, David Fox shoved all in for his last 32,000 with {a-Clubs}{q-Spades}, and Kihara shoved over the top to isolate. Unfortunately for him, he had {a-Spades}{8-Clubs}, and when Fox flopped a queen, the hand was all but over.

Just two hands later, his day was done. Rheem raised to 5,000, and Kihara shoved with {a-Clubs}{10-Clubs}. Tamara Tibbles woke up with two black queens in the big blind, and raised enough to get Rheem out of there. Kihara's ace never came, and in a flash, he was gone.

Meanwhile, Tibbles and Rheem are reaping the benefits, as they are currently first and second in chips.

Day 2 About to Start!

Tammy Tibbles lead the way
Tammy Tibbles lead the way

Yesterday promised to be one of the most action packed Day 1's of the series, and it didn't disappoint, as we whittled 924 players down to just 122 in the $2,500 No-Limit Hold'em Six Handed. After ten levels of play, it is Tammy Tibbles who leads the way with 233,300, while bracelet winner Steve Kelly is not far behind with 224,000.

Virtually anyone who is anyone in the poker community came out for this big event yesterday. As expected, we have a stacked field of pros coming into the day, with many of them carrying some big stacks. The two biggest are WPT Championship winners Tuan Le (149,000) and Chino Rheem (136,400).

Along with these two, we will also see these players back on the six handed felts today: Scott Clements (122,000), Vanessa Russo (73,500), JC Tran (72,300), Chris Moorman (71,000), David Peters (70,800), David Randall (67,300), Ray Henson (61,000), Humbert Brenes (56,100), and Andrew Lichtenberger (49,200), amongst many others.

122 players are coming back today, but only 108 of them will walk away with extra money in their pockets. That means that we will lost just over two tables of players before we hit the money. While this might normally take a while, we expect it to happen rather quickly given the format and the talent of the players still in the field.

Play is scheduled to get underway in just under an hour. As always, the plan is to play down to a final table today, but if the final table isn't reached, then play will stop after 10 levels. As always, Pokernews.com will have all of the action, so get comfortable, and enjoy our live coverage of six max play all day long!
