Antonius, Chidwick Among Big Names Heading to Day 2 in EPT €5,300 Main Event

Day 2 of the €5,300 Main Event here at the PokerStars and Barcelona©Casino European Poker Tour in Spain will kick off at noon local time with 720 remaining.

Leading the way Ireland's Stephen Kehoe with a stack of 331,500, who bagged the overall chip lead on Day 1b after Andre Moreira Marques finished Day 1a at the top of the counts.

There were no shortage of big poker names in the record-breaking field of 2,234 runners and many of them survived the two starting flights to see Day 2, including high stakes crusher Stephen Chidwick, longtime veteran Patrik Antonius and PokerStars ambassadors Benjamin Spragg, Sam Grafton, Alejandro Lococo and Andre Akkari, who is fresh off of a ninth-place finish in the €2,200 Estrellas Poker Tour High Roller.

Others who will be in the Day 2 field include Gaelle Baumann, Chino Rheem, Adrian Mateos and defending champion Simon Brandstrom.

Day 2 will kick off on Level 11 with blinds of 1,000/1,500/1,500 and will last for six 90-minute levels with 20-minute breaks at the end of each level. There will also be a dinner break at the discretion of the tournament directors.

Kehoe Sliding a Bit Early

Day 1 chip leader Stephen Kehoe's stack is still among the biggest in the room, but he has dropped some chips to start the day.

In a recent hand, he raised under the gun to 3,000 and was three-bet to 10,000 by Emmanuel Rouvet in the cutoff.

Action folded back to Kehoe, who called.

On the flop, Kehoe checked to Rouvet, who bet 12,000.

Kehoe quickly folded to send the pot across the table as his stack fell below the 300,000 mark.

Greenwood's Stack Growing

Sam Greenwood raised to 3,500 in middle position and was called in three spots, by Diogo De Melo Cardoso on the button, by Niklas Astedt in the small blind, and by Dragos Trofimov in the big blind.

The quartet saw a flop of and everyone checked.

On the turn, Astedt led out for 7,000, getting a fold from Trofimov, but Greenwood and Cardoso stuck around.

The river brought the and Astedt now checked. Greenwood however put out a bet of 19,000 which was called by Cardoso, but Astedt now folded.

Greenwood showed , and Cardoso mucked his hand sending the healthy pot to Greenwood, who took another small pot shortly after to build his stack even further.

Before the break, PokerNews spent an orbit with British high stakes titan Stephen Chidwick as he started to grow his Day 2 stack.

Hand #1 (Small Blind): Chidwick completed in the small blind and Jack Salter checked his option in the big blind. Chidwick checked on the flop of and Salter bet 1,500. Chidwick called.

Chidwick checked again on the turn and stared Salter down as the fellow Brit contemplated a move beneath a hat and hoodie. Salter eventually bet 7,500 and Chidwick check-raised to 25,000. Salter laid it down.

Hand #2 (Button): Javier Fernandez opened to 3,000 from the hijack and Chidwick folded.

Hand #3 (Cutoff): Kenny Hallaert opened to 3,500 and Chidwick folded as the next player to act.

Hand #4 (Hijack): Action folded to Chidwick and he followed suit.

Hand #5 (Middle Position): Chidwick again folded when the action folded around.

Hand #6 (UTG+1): Chidwick opened to 3,500 and Rui Sousa flat-called from the cutoff before Javier Fernandez called in the big blind. Fernandez checked on the flop of and Chidwick also checked. Sousa bet 4,500 and only Chidwick called.

Chidwick checked again on the turn and Sousa sized up to 21,000. Chidwick again called. Chidwick checked a third time on the river and Sousa took a moment before betting around 62,000. Chidwick laid it down.
