Tudor Purice Wins a Big Flip; Leads After Day 2

Nível 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante
Tudor Purice - Flipping Right
Tudor Purice - Flipping Right

Season 10 of the European Poker Tour continued on Tuesday with Day 2 of the EPT London Main Event, and leading the 107 players is Tudor Purice. Purice made the wheel during Level 11, eliminating Mike McDonald, who only had a pair of aces, and won a 275,000-chip race during the last level of the night with {a-Hearts}{k-Spades} against the {q-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} of Onur Guvan. There was a king on the flop, and Purice’s hand held up as the turn and river both produced bricks. Purice bagged 628,200 chips.

Also joining Purdice at the top of the counts are Ludovic Geilich (436,000), November Niner Mark Newhouse (380,800), Andy Moseley (487,100), and Yngve Steen (576,400).

Geilich had an incredibly turbulent last two levels, but was also gifted a large stack while holding the nuts. The German checked on the river with Broadway, and his fellow countryman, Patric Laudam, moved all in for 172,000 into a pot of around 200,000. Geilich snapped it off, and doubled.

Steen rocketed up the charts during the last few minutes, winning a pot off of Kitty Kuo. Kuo is still very healthy with 266,000 — she eliminated former EPT Copenhagen winner Michael Tureniec during the last level of play, turning the nuts against the semi-bluffing Swede. Tureniec was left with one out to chop, but the river produced the brick and the pot was shipped to Kuo, who chipped up to nearly 400,000.

Other players who survived the day with healthy stacks include Dan Smith, who hit a two-outer against John Juanda in a 320,000-chip pot, high stakes online cash game player Yngve Steen, Shannon Shorr, Daniel Weinmen, Paul Volpe, and the overall chip leader entering into Day 2, Dhru Patel,

Patel lost a sick three-way all in against Mat Frankland and Andoni Larrabe, where Frankland’s aces held against Patel’s kings and Larrabe’s queens preflop.

Three members of the Team PokerStars Pro remain — including Henrique Pinho (150,300), Barry Greenstein (129,300), and The Jorgensen (71,200).

The prize pool was announced during Day 2. The 604-player field generated a total prize pool of £2,929,400, and the top 87 players will receive a minimum of £9,080. The eight members of the final table are guaranteed £60,640, and the winner will take home £560,980.

There were hundreds of casualties on Day 2, including Lex Veldhuis, Sam Trickett, Richard Toth, Richard Yong, Dimitar Danchev, Sam Panzica, Michiel Brummelhuis, Joe Kuether, Jeff Gross, Daniel Negreanu, Jason Mercier, Vicky Coren, and a host of others.

Negreanu lost a flip in Level 12 against Anton Wigg, Veldhuis flopped top pair of kings against a middle set of tens, Danchev ran a weak ace into an opponent’s ace-king, and Trickett lost a series of hands, including a final one with {a-}{q-} against a player’s {k-}{q-} to bust.

The surviving 107 players will return at noon local time on Wednesday, just 20 eliminations away from the money. PokerNews will be on hand for up-to-the-minute updates straight from the floor, and we look forward to you joining us then.

No Day 3 For Veldhuis

Nível 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

"This is so frustrating, it's just like last year," Team PokerStars Pro Lex Veldhuis told us after he was just knocked out.

Veldhuis was knocked out at the end of Day 2 last season as well here in London and today he also did not manage to survive.

On the last hand Veldhuis got it in with {K-}{Q-} versus {10-}{10-} on a {K-}{10-}{2-} after having had a medium to small stack throughout the day.

Volpe Loses One

Nível 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

Paul Volpe is up quite a lot since our last count, but we just spotted him losing a pot. Volpe raised to 4,800 and got called by Antonin Duda in the big blind.

The flop brought {J-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{6-Hearts} and Duda check-called 6,000.

On the turn the {Q-Diamonds} hit and both players checked. The river brought the {Q-Clubs} and Duda fired out 12,500. Volpe went into the tank for quite a while but eventually he made the call.

Duda showed {Q-Hearts}{9-Hearts} and took down the pot.

"That's a nice hand," Volpe said as he was still left behind with 200,000 chips.

Last Three Hands

Nível 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

The tournament staff has just announced that the remaining players will play three more hands before calling it a night. We're headed out to the field to grab some chip counts and any last-minute action that may go down. Stay tuned for those as well as a full recap of the EPT London Day 2 action.

Steen Wins Huge Pot from Yan

Nível 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

Shannon Shorr got the ball rolling with a raise to 5,200 before Yngve Steen made it 11,500 in middle position. In the big blind, [Removed:17] four-bet to 37,400 and Shorr quickly folded.

Steen tanked for a couple of minutes then made the call to see a {10-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{J-Spades} flop.

Yan cut out a bet of 47,000 and slid it into the middle. Steen thought again and made the call once more to see the {3-Hearts} on the turn. This time Yan bet just 45,300 only for Steen to move all in. Yan folded instantly.
