Benny Glaser Snags the Chip Lead of Event #48: $10,000 Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship

Nível 10 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Benny Glaser
Benny Glaser

Day 1 of Event #48: $10,000 Seven-Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship is in the books. Leading the day after Day 1 is Benny Glaser (325,500) who took over the chip lead in the last hand of the night by eliminating Brian Rast and chopping a pot with Brock Parker. But there are still several noteworthy players still alive in the event as well, such as Todd Brunson (271,000), John Monnette (221,500), Phil Hellmuth (70,000), James Obst (137,500), Jennifer Harman (166,000), and Daniel Negreanu (97,500).

Most of the day was filled with fun, laughter, and drinking. At one point during the day, Frank Kassela noted that this was the drunkest he’s ever been at a poker table. Jennifer Harman laid her chips out in front of her in a pile while the players took turns guessing how much she head. Brandon Shack-Harris wore a bear hoodie that he passed over to Owais Ahmed. But that doesn’t mean there wasn’t any poker played despite all the fun.

That being said there were several notables who didn’t make it through the day, such as Jason Mercier, Greg Raymer, Shaun Deeb, Allen Kessler, Jared Bleznick, Eric Wasserson, Scotty Nguyen, and one of everyone’s favorite poker commentators, Norman Chad. Chad tweeted earlier in the day that he thought he was actually registering for the $1,000 version of this event, and that he needed to find investors.

Chad busted about midway through the day after finding himself at a table full of sharks such as Bertrand Grospellier, Anthony Zinno, and David Singer.

Chad was just one of 125 entrants in the event though. Those 125 players created a prizepool of $1,175,000 with a first place prize of $320,193. A final table appearance is worth $33,265 and a mincash will grab $15,182.

The remaining 48 players will make their way back into the Brasilia room at 2 p.m. PDT on Sunday and will play ten more levels. PokerNews will be here to cover all the action so be sure to tune back in to catch it all.

A series of bets left Nick Schulman all in on third street for the rest of his chips. He was called by Jameson Painter, Phillip Hui, John Racener, and Todd Brunson.

On fourth street, Brunson was checked to. He bet and was called by Painter, Racener, and Hui. On fifth, Brunson bet again after picking up the betting lead. Only Racener called this time.

Brunson bet again on sixth, and Racener called. Brunson bet again on seventh, and Racener called. Brunson showed {4-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} for a full house, and that was enough to get a muck from Racener. Schulman sweated his last two cards.

"I know I had ace-deuce of clubs," he said. He turned up {a-Clubs}{2-Clubs} and sweated his last card. Finally, he turned it up, but it was the {2-Spades}, and that sent him packing from the tournament.

The big pot helped Brunson pad his already massive stack here on Day 1.

How Many Chips Does Jen Harman Have?

Jennifer Harman
Jennifer Harman

Harman: {x-}{x-} / {7-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{K-Spades}{9-Diamonds} / {x-}
Friedman: {x-}{x-} / {5-Spades}{2-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{Q-Spades} / {x-}

With a pile of chips scattered in front of her, Jen Harman and Adam Friedman got involved in a pot.

Harman completed, and Friedman called.

On fourth street, Harman saw her card. "I'm gonna go ahead and bet," she said. She did, and Friedman called. "I'm gonna go ahead and check," Harman said on fifth street. Friedman then bet, and Harman called. She checked again on sixth, and Friedman bet again. Harman called once more. After a check on seventh, Friedman bet again. Harman called.

Friedman showed {A-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{8-Clubs} for a low and ace-queen high. Harman showed {7-Spades}{8-Spades}{A-Clubs} for a pair of sevens, and that was enough to earn her half the pot.

"How much are you playing, Jen?" Jason Mercier asked.

"I bet you've got at least 50 percent more than starting stack," said Chris Klodnicki, who had just been moved to the table.

"What do you have, like a hundred?" Kassela asked.

Everyone wagered guesses about Harman's stack.

"I'm willing to take 60 to 100 against the field," Mercier said, laughing.

"I don't know how many pinks she has down there," Kassela said.

Harman then pulled out six pink chips and laid them in front of her pile. "I've got the same! Still six," she said.

After a rough count of her pile, she appeared to have just a bit over 60,000.

On sixth street, Jan Suchanek had the betting lead, and he lead out. Alex Luneau called. Action repeated itself on seventh.

"I think I got you scooped," Suchanek said, showing {A-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{4-Spades} for trips and a low. He was right, and Luneau mucked.

Despite losing that pot, Luneau has still managed to build a massive stack today, amassing over 150,000 already.

There was a huge pot brewing between Chris Vitch, Matthew Kelly, and the recently joined Scott Bohlman. There was close to 80,000 already in the middle of the table, and action was on seventh street. After a bet, it looked like Kelly raised. Bohlman called, and Vitch was in the tank. He eventually decided to call, and the hands were turned up.

Kelly showed {10-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{8-Clubs} for a full house. Bohlman showed {4-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} for a sixty-four low. Vitch turned his hand face-down and sent it over to the dealer as the other two split up his chips.

Deuce to Seven Stories With Harman and Lisandro

Nível 5 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante
Jeff Lisandro
Jeff Lisandro

At Table 721 in the Brasilia Room, there are several multiple bracelet winners sharing a table, with over 16 bracelets on the table between the players with some big mixed-game titles between Jenifer Harman, Jason Mercier, Jeff Lisandro, and Frank Kassela.

"There's at least three no-limit deuce bracelets here," Mercier said. "Jeff, don't you have one, too?"

"No," Lisandro said. "I lost heads-up to Matusow. I should've won that one."

"Jen, what's your second bracelet in?" Mercier asked. "I know one is limit hold'em."

"It's in no-limit deuce," Harman said. "I almost lost, too. Lyle (Berman) pitched in one of the wrong cards, and I let him take it back."

"Wait, what?" Mercier asked.

"Yeah, he threw in the wrong card," Harman said. "The floor came over and didn't know what to do, so he said, 'Well, whatever Jennifer thinks.'"

Everyone at the table had a laugh. "I let him take it back," Harman said.

"Something like that happened to me," Lisandro said. "I had Matusow down to one bet and he caught me bluffing. Then there was a point where I knew he was bluffing, and I called him with a pair of nines after he stood pat. He got so steamed up he just walked off, and the tournament director called a break."

Everyone at the table was shocked.

"Yeah, then he came back and won the next five hands and beat me," Lisandro continued. Everyone laughed and continued telling stories about their bracelet wins and cash game fiascos.

Obst bet on sixth street, again getting two callers. Obst bet again on seventh street. Friedman called quickly, and Jelinek folded.

Obst showed {6-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} for a straight and an eight-seven low, and that was good enough to scoop.

On seventh street, Brandon Shack-Harris was in the tank, and he was thinking about calling a bet that Benyamine had put out. There was already roughly 12,000 in the middle of the table, as well as over 6,000 worth of bets between Benyamine and Shack-Harris.

Shack-Harris thought pretty intently about the decision, then finally he decided to call.

Benyamine turned up {A-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{3-Spades} for a wheel.

"Nice hand," Shack-Harris said very quietly. He tapped the table, and the chips were sent Benyamine's way.

With a short stack, Matt Grapenthien completed, then called a raise by Nikolay Fal. Owais Ahmed called, as did Grapenthien.

On fourth street, Ahmed checked to Grapenthien, who bet, and both players called. On fifth, Grapenthien took the betting lead, and he bet. Only Fal called. Fal called another bet on sixth street.

Grapenthien bet once more on seventh street, putting him all in. Fal picked his cards up, looked at them a bit, turned up the {2-Spades}{5-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}, then folded. Grapenthien showed the {8-Clubs} for quads.

"Not a bad hand to be all in with," he said.
