Day 1 of Event #48: $10,000 Seven-Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship is in the books. Leading the day after Day 1 is Benny Glaser (325,500) who took over the chip lead in the last hand of the night by eliminating Brian Rast and chopping a pot with Brock Parker. But there are still several noteworthy players still alive in the event as well, such as Todd Brunson (271,000), John Monnette (221,500), Phil Hellmuth (70,000), James Obst (137,500), Jennifer Harman (166,000), and Daniel Negreanu (97,500).

Most of the day was filled with fun, laughter, and drinking. At one point during the day, Frank Kassela noted that this was the drunkest he’s ever been at a poker table. Jennifer Harman laid her chips out in front of her in a pile while the players took turns guessing how much she head. Brandon Shack-Harris wore a bear hoodie that he passed over to Owais Ahmed. But that doesn’t mean there wasn’t any poker played despite all the fun.

That being said there were several notables who didn’t make it through the day, such as Jason Mercier, Greg Raymer, Shaun Deeb, Allen Kessler, Jared Bleznick, Eric Wasserson, Scotty Nguyen, and one of everyone’s favorite poker commentators, Norman Chad. Chad tweeted earlier in the day that he thought he was actually registering for the $1,000 version of this event, and that he needed to find investors.

Chad busted about midway through the day after finding himself at a table full of sharks such as Bertrand Grospellier, Anthony Zinno, and David Singer.

Chad was just one of 125 entrants in the event though. Those 125 players created a prizepool of $1,175,000 with a first place prize of $320,193. A final table appearance is worth $33,265 and a mincash will grab $15,182.

The remaining 48 players will make their way back into the Brasilia room at 2 p.m. PDT on Sunday and will play ten more levels. PokerNews will be here to cover all the action so be sure to tune back in to catch it all.

Brian Rast Eliminated in Last Hand of the Night; Glaser Takes the Chip Lead

Nível 10 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Zinno: {x-}{x-} / {8-Hearts}{A-Spades}{9-Clubs}{8-Clubs} / {x-}
Glaser: {x-}{x-} / {2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts} / {x-}
Parker: {x-}{x-} / {6-Hearts}{6-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} / {x-}
Rast: {x-}{x-} / {3-Spades}{3-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{9-Spades} / {x-}

Brian Rast was all in on fourth street and was called by Anthony Zinno, Brock Parker, and Benny Glaser. Parker bet on fifth street and both Glaser and Zinno called. On sixth, Zinno took the betting lead. He and Glaser checked over to Parker and he bet again. On seventh, Zinno and Glaser checked once more. Parker bet and both called.

Parker showed {7-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{8-Spades} for a straight and the nut-low low. Zinno showed {3-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for a straight flush draw that never came and a low. Glaser had a slightly better low with {A-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{8-Spades}. Rast got nothing when he turned up his {Q-}{7-}{4-}. Glaser took down the low side of the pot while Parker took the high end, and that half pushed Glaser into the chip lead at the end of the night.

Bach: {x-}{x-} / {4-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{9-Spades} / {x-}

"Give him a ten dealer," said Frank Kassela as fifth street was being dealt.

"I mean you got a ten," he said to his opponent David Bach, "So I have to bet"

David Bach check-called on sixth and seventh street but Kassela showed him {8-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for two pair.

Zinno And Obst Share a Pot

Nível 10 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Zinno: {x-}{x-} / {4-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} / {x-}
Obst {x-}{x-} / {3-Clubs}{6-Spades}{2-Hearts}{K-Diamonds} / {x-}

Anthony Zinno completed and he was called by James Obst. Zinno bet on fourth, fifth, and sixth streets with the betting lead and Obst called every time.

On seventh, Zinno bet again. This time Obst raised. Zinno made it three bets, and Obst called.

Zinno showed {A-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{4-Spades} for a full house, but Obst had the low locked up with {A-Spades}{3-Spades}{5-Clubs} for a sixty-five, and the two chopped the pot.

Obst Takes One off Sammartino

Nível 10 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Obst: {x-}{x-} / {2-Spades}{5-Spades}{6-Clubs}{A-Clubs} / {x-}
Sammartino: {x-}{x-} / {3-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{A-Hearts}{5-Clubs} / {x-}

James Obst and Dario Sammartino were involved in a pot on sixth street with Brock Parker and one other player. Sammartino bet on sixth street and Obst was his only taker.

On seventh, Sammartino checked over to Obst. Obst bet this time and Sammartino called.

"Aces up, no low," Obst said. He turned up {A-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} and that earned a muck from Sammartino who pushed away his hand.
