2024 World Series of Poker
Ruben Hovsepyan raised from the cutoff, Daniel Weinman jammed about 100,000 from the button and was called.
Daniel Weinman: A♦9♦
Ruben Hovsepyan: A♥Q♠
The 2023 Main Event champion would need some help to stay alive. The flop came 10♥3♠4♦. The turn was the A♠ and the river the 5♠ to end Weinman's bid to be the first back to back champion since Johnny Chan in 1987 and 1988.
On Day 4 of the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event, the 1,518th place finisher has busted. And that means every player still standing is guaranteed to go home with money and a profit.
The top 1,517 players in poker's most prestigious annual event are now all guaranteed at least $15,000, with the potential to win as much as $10 million. But for two players — Lucas Reeves and Christian Stratmeyer — the dream of winning all that money and becoming world champion ended Wednesday at quite an inopportune time. For one individual, the dream died in a kings versus aces situation, and the player with kings had a big stack.
Mauro Ferreira opened from early position and Justin Turner jammed all in from middle position for 130,000. The action folded back to Ferreira, who put in a swift call.
Justin Turner: 10♠10♣
Mauro Ferreira: 7♦7♣
The 9♦8♠A♣6♦ runout gave Ferreira a straight draw, but the 3♣ river bricked out and doubled up Turner.
On a flop of 10♦7♥5♦ with over 100,000 chips in the pot, the early position player bet and Justin Chu shoved for 87,000. Early position called.
Justin Chu: 8♣8♠
Early Position: A♠K♦
Chu managed to hold on as the 2♦ turn and J♣ runout kept his pocket eights in the lead.
Manuel Machado raised to 16,000 from the cutoff before BJ McBrayer moved all in for 208,000 from the small blind. Not in love with the situation, Machado decided he couldn't fold and tossed in a chip for a call.
BJ McBrayer: 7♥7♦
Manuel Machado: K♥Q♥
A fair fight heading to see five community cards, the dealer spread a board of J♣6♥8♦3♠10♣ and McBrayer doubled up to extend his tournament run.
