Barry Greenstein raised to 300 from middle position and the players in the hijack and button both called. The flop came out 8♦K♣J♦ and Greenstein placed a continuation bet of 600, the hijack folded and Arnie Blitstein three-bet to 1,200. Greenstein made the call.
On the turn K♥ Greenstein checked and Blitstein bet out the same bet 1,200. Greenstein contemplated a moment and folded. Blitstein showed the K♦.
Acton was picked up with 1,000 chips in the pot, and a board showing 7♠J♥6♦. David Compton bet out 600 from the small blind, both the big blind and a player in the cutoff made the call.
The turn brought the K♦ and Compton again bet out 600, but this time the big blind folded, and the cutoff made the call.
On the river was the 8♥ and Compton fired out once more, for 1,000. The cutoff quickly called and tabled K♠Q♥ for top pair with kings, but Compton had the winner when he showed 10♥9♦ for a rivered straight.
With around 4,000 chips in the pot and a board that read 5♠8♠7♦4♠, Jeff Sardella had checked to the player in the hijack, who bet 5,000. Sardella then shoved his stack of 18,000 into the middle, and the hijack snap-called for 14,000 total.
Hijack: K♠Q♠
Jeff Sardella: 7♠6♠
The entire table was in disbelief that Sardella had turned a straight flush, which left the hijack drawing dead. A meaningless J♠ completed the board and Sardella was pushed the pot, which sent his opponent to the rail early on.
A player from early position raised to 400 and was called by a player in middle position. Nick Blackburn three-bet to 1,700 from the cutoff, which the early position player called and the middle position player folded.
The flop came 5♥J♣2♣ and the player in early position check-called the bet of 2,000.
After the turn came with the 6♦, both players checked to the river.
The river was the K♦ and after the early position player checked, Blackburn bet 2,000 and was quickly called. Blackburn tabled A♣K♥ for top pair, top kicker, and his opponent mucked his hand.
The table also relayed info about the first hand of the tournament, when Mark Brennan eliminated a player after flopping quad queens. Brennan and his opponent got all the chips in on the turn, when his opponent needed a K♥ for a royal flush. The river gave Brennan a sweat when it came the K♦, but his quads were still best and he doubled up on the first hand of the tournament.
Joanne Miner who is here from a seat she won with her ladies group in Phoenix , "The Phoenix Desert Sharks," raised from early position to 300. Massoud Eskandari, who won this tournament in 2022 and here to reclaim the title, three-bet to 1,200 and Miner made the call.
The flop came out Q♣10♣J♠ and Miner checked. Eskandari bet out 1,400. Miner folded and showed 9♦9♣ and Eskandari obliged and showed K♣K♥.
Eskandari stated, "It was a set hunt".
On a flop of 5♠7♦3♦, the action had checked to the early position player who bet 600. Cindy Ward then raised to 1,600, which got a few players to fold, but the player in early position called.
When the 6♦ fell on the turn, the action checked to Ward who fired a bet of 1,600, which was enough to earn her the pot as her opponent folded.
Danny Glass raised to 700 from middle position, and was called by a player in the cutoff, and the small blind.
The flop came 2♠A♣4♥ and Glass bet out 1,100 and was called by the cutoff. The small blind folded, leaving the two players heads up.
The 7♥ came on the turn and Glass bet out 2,200. After giving it some thought the player in the cutoff said "Ace-king or queen?" and folded AxJx face up. Glass responds with "king" and threw his cards into the muck as he took in the pot.
All the chips were in the middle and the cards were on their backs in a pot between Brian Wieser and the cutoff.
The board read 10♦2♣A♦3♣K♥ with the small blind having flipped A♥10♥ for two pair, but Wieser held 2♠2♦ for bottom set and took the pot.
