Father & Daughter Make the Money of the 2023 WSOP Main Event

One of the most heartwarming storylines of the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP) emerged yesterday as the father-daughter duo of Amanda Botfeld and David Botfeld made the money of the $10,000 WSOP Main Event World Championship.

Amanda Botfeld, a poker writer and author of 2020's A Girl's Guide to Poker, announced on Twitter that she and her dad had made it to the money in poker's most prestigious event. The tweet included a photo of the two locked in a loving embrace, no doubt happy to have secured a payday of at least $15,000.

David Botfeld was eliminated later on Day 4, while Amanda Botfeld is still alive on Day 5.

Michailidis Wins at Showdown

A player from under the gun limped in and the player next to act bumped it up to 900. It folded around to Dimitrios Michailidis in the big blind who called, and the limper came along as well.

On the flop of 10♠10♦4♦, Michailidis and the under-the-gun player checked to the initial raiser who made it 2,000 to go. Michailidis made the call and the under-the-gun player got out of the way.

The 10♥ hit the turn and both players checked their options to the 6♣ river, where again the action went check-check. Michailidis tabled A♠K♥Q♣6♠ and took the pot with trip tens and ace-king kicker.

Livingston Plays Stop and Go

Action was opened to 900 by longtime pro Alex Livingston from under the gun. The cutoff, button, and big blind all called.

The 2♠2♦8♦ flop landed and action was checked to Livingston who continued for 1,000. Everyone folded except the cutoff. The turn brought J♥ and Livingston now slowed down and checked. The cutoff checked behind.

The river brought a 10♥ and Livingston put his foot back on the gas and bet 2,500. The cutoff thought it over for a minute and eventually folded. Livingston would scoop a nice pot early on.

Tafur Shuts His Opponent Down on the River

The player in the cutoff raised to 900 and got called by the button and Daniel Tafur in the small blind leading to a 5♥Q♥9♦ flop.

Tafur led with a bet of 1,500 and got called only by the player in the cutoff to see the 2♦ hit the turn.

Tafur checked and the player in the cutoff announced pot, totaling a bet of 6,500. Tafur made the call to see the 8♠ fall on the river.

Tafur led again, this time for 5,000 and got a quick fold out of his opponent to take down the pot.

Madsen Pulls The Limp-Raise

Jeff Madsen limped in from under the gun and a player in the cutoff raised to 1,200. It folded back to Madsen who put in a limp-raise to 4,300 and his opponent came along.

The flop fanned out 10♠8♣8♥ and Madsen continued for 5,600. His opponent contemplated their options for a minute, but eventually let it go and the pot was sent to Madsen.

Hughes Takes Three-Bet Pot From Farha

Ryan Hughes opened to 800 from early position and a player in the cutoff called. Sam Farha put in a three-bet to 3,700 on the button and only Hughes made the call.

The flop came 9♥8♦7♣ and Hughes elected to take the lead with a bet of 4,100. Farha double-checked his cards, but in the end let them go and Hughes was awarded the pot.

Volcovschi Wins With A One Chip Bet

On a board reading A♥9♠2♥Q♠, the player in late position checked to Diana Volcovschi on the button who announced a pot-sized bet amounting to 12,200, leaving her just one single 100 denomination chip behind.

The late position player thought for a moment but eventually called to see the K♦ hit the river.

The late position player checked once more to Volcovschi who tossed her last 100 chip into the pot. The late position player, apparently having missed everything and being left with an absolutely nothing hand, tossed his cards into the muck and allowed Volcovschi to win the pot without showdown.

The table rang out with, "Show the bluff!" but she slid her cards to the dealer, presumably with no bluff to show in what was a very interesting spot.
