Day 2 of Event #57: $25,000 High Roller Pot-Limit Omaha at the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP) at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas ended registration with 449 entries and a total Prize pool of $10,551,500 making this the largest WSOP pot-limit omaha event in history.

After 10 levels of play, 31 players remained. Chance Kornuth appeared to bag the chip lead with 7,245,000. Others to bag big stacks were Dylan Weisman (4,355,000), Day 1 chip leader Firas Kashat (4,185,000), and 2023 bracelet winner Isaac Haxton (4,320,000).

Also making it through on Day 2 were multiple players that have already won a bracelet this year, including Jeremy Ausmus (2,290,000), Yuri Dzivielevski (1,065,000), Ben Lamb (1,795,000), and Chad Eveslage (1,230,000).

Despite all the stars and accomplishments named above it would be hard to ignore Kornuth’s 2023 summer so far. Two high roller final tables, an online bracelet final table, and a win at the Wynn Mystery Bounty just a few days ago. He will ride into Day 3 in one of the biggest spots of his career as he and the other remaining players chase the coveted gold bracelet and staggering $2,294,756 top prize.

Unfortunately, not everyone was so fortunate as Kornuth. Among those to bust on Day 2 before the money were Stephen Chidwick, Shaun Deeb, Nacho Barbero, Erik Seidel, and Nick Schulman.

Day 3 of Event #57: $25,000 High Roller Pot-Limit Omaha will kick off at 1 p.m. on June 27. The day will start on Level 21 with blinds at 25,000/50,000/50,000 and will play down to the final five players that will compete for bracelet glory on Day 4.

Quadruple Up for Katz; Seat Open for Boulden and Double for Lau

Nível 20 : Blinds 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante
Matthew Boulden
Matthew Boulden

During the final hands of the night, the action exploded and several all-in showdowns took place in quick succession.

Cary Katz had been all-in preflop after a raise by Firas Kashat and two calls. He was looked up three ways and it checked to the J767J river. Yuri Dzivielevski bet 125,000 and his two active opponents folded.

The Brazilian only briefly flashed his cards but Katz quadrupled with the J1085.

On the same table, Matthew Boulden was then all-in after a K63 flop against Mads Amot.

Matthew Boulden: AK96
Mads Amot: Q654

Amot had a wrap and got there instantly with the 7 turn, the 3 river sent Boulden to the payout desk with the words "at least I don't have to come back tomorrow".

Ka Kwan Lau then got it in for 1,505,000 post flop against Ben Lamb with the flop showing Q63.

Ka Kwan Lau:AKKJ
Ben Lamb: KQ103

Lamb was ahead with the top and bottom pair and that remained to be the case on the 7 turn. However, the 6 river counterfeited Lamb's two pair and he vaulted out of the chair in disgust.

Arieh Eliminated by Kashat

Josh Arieh
Josh Arieh

In a battle of the blinds, the short stack of around 450,000 by Josh Arieh in the big blind went into the middle preflop and he was ahead versus Firas Kashat.

Josh Arieh: AK87
Firas Kashat: A953

The 833 flop gave Kashat trips and the 9 turn made it a full house, leaving Arieh dead prior to the 5 river.

"Lucky, lucky, life is all about luck," Kashat grinned as he raked in the chips.

Moments later, Dimitrios Michailidis was knocked out by Ben Lamb one table over and the field dropped to 35 contenders with fewer than half an hour to go for the night.

Kornuth Pulls Off Double Check-Raise

Nível 20 : Blinds 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante
Chance Kornuth
Chance Kornuth

On a heads-up flop of 7AQ, Chance Kornuth checked to Andriy Lyubovetskiy who bet 60,000. Kornuth then check-raised to 190,000 but Lyubovetskiy did not seem to like that much so he further increased the bet to 525,000.

Kornuth made the call and the dup went to the turn K and he checked Lyubovetskiy once more.

Lyubovetskiy then fired off a bet of 650,000 and then Kornuth hit him with the double check-raise, which was all in for 2,160,000. Lyubovetskiy thought about it for a few seconds but then decided to toss it into the muck.

"I came here to play big pots, the payouts are super top-heavy," Kornuth said as he raked in his latest score.

Eveslage Gets the Knockout and the Double

Nível 19 : Blinds 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante
Chad Eveslage
Chad Eveslage

Sean Winter opened the action to 85,000 from under the gun off a short stack. It folded to Joao Vieira in the small blind who reraised pot to 285,000. Next to act was Chad Eveslage who also announced "pot" and put in the remaining 695,000 in his stack. Winter and Vieira both called. The players were off to a full board.

Sean Winter: KQQ9
Chad Eveslage: AA32
Joao Vieira: KK55

The full board would run out 97AQJ giving Eveslage top set, Winter middle set, and Vieira just a pair of kings. Winter hit the rail, Vieira's stack was punished, and Eveslage got over a pure double and a very healthy stack going into the final levels of the day.

Nerenberg Nails Turn and River to Bust Gryko

Nível 18 : Blinds 10,000/25,000, 25,000 ante
Richard Gryko
Richard Gryko

Gregory Nerenberg arrived at his new table and didn't unrack his chips yet before he was involved in another all-in showdown.

On a flop of 1032, Richard Gryko was all-in with the 5433 for the middle set and a straight draw.

"What you have, a set of treys? Sh*t," Nerenberg said. He then started cheering for spades on the J turn.

"Wouldn't that be bad if I hit spades?" Nerenberg groaned and indeed hit the 5 on the river.

While Gryko was on the way out of the tournament area and to the payout desk, Nerenberg added "he is so mad ... what an idiot, middle set."

Also no longer in contention is Christopher Frank, as the field rapidly shrinks after the bubble had burst at the start of this level.

Daniel Barriocanal
Daniel Barriocanal

On a heads-up flop of A57, Dylan Weisman moved all in to cover the shorter-stacked Daniel Barriocanal.

Barriocanal went into the tank for a bit before he finally moved all in to put himself at risk.

Daniel Barriocanal: AJ107
Dylan Weisman: K773

Barriocanal had flopped top two-pair, but unfortunately for him, Weisman had flopped a set of sevens. The board ran out 109 and was no help to Barriocanal and he was sent to the rail while Weisman increased his stack to 3,750,000.

The chips went flying on the KJ67 turn when Dylan Weisman ended up all-in and at risk for 1,200,000, and he was looked up by Gregory Nerenberg with the superior stack.

Dylan Weisman: AKQ7
Gregory Nerenberg: 8543

The wrap of Nerenberg missed with the J river completed the board and Firas Kashat then joked to Weisman "you hit the lotto, you know what that means?"

Kashat had even more words to share, this time for table neighbour Nerenberg. "Somebody was gonna get the fish ... you are the fish," he said straight to the face of Kashat.

No reply followed and the next hand unfolded.

Players were just two eliminations away from the money when action was joined on a 4610 flop. Dan Smith was all in and at risk and Quan Zhou called.

The cards hit their backs.

Dan Smith: AAQ3
Quan Zhou: KQ104

Zhou was leading with two pair, tens and fours, while Smith had a pair of aces with a flush draw.

Old Age and Treachery

Nível 17 : Blinds 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Henry Hull
Henry Hull

On a heads-up turn of A672, Henry Hull checked to his opponent, Robert Cowen, who then bet 300,000 into the already large pot of 500,000.

Hull thought about it for a few moments, then announced a call and punctuated it by thumping his stack chips onto the felt.

The river fell the 3 and Hull gave a shrug and moved all of his chips into the middle, totaling 345,000, and Cowen went deep into the tank.

"I feel like you just have 7-8-9-10 here," he said to Hull after an intense staredown, but still could not quite make up his mind.

After using several time banks, Cowen finally made the could to award the pot to Hull.

"Show the bluff!" someone at the table said, and Hull proudly showed pocket kings, and then admitted he just had six-eight to go with it for a stone bluff. The player to his right corroborated this story and the table went nuts over his bluff., to which Hull responded with a quote from David Mamet...

"Old age and treachery will always beat youth and enthusiasm [exuberance]".
