What shapes up to be the largest $50,000 Poker Players Championship in several years is en route to surpass more than 100 entries for the first time since 2014. The crown jewel of the mixed game schedule during the 2022 World Series of Poker at Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas has attracted 91 entries so far and registration remains open for another four levels on Day 2, which is slated to recommence at 2 p.m. local time.

The Main Event for mixed game enthusiasts at the WSOP features a nine-game rotation including No-Limit Hold'em, Seven Card Stud, Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better, Razz, Pot-Limit Omaha, Limit Hold'em, Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better, No-Limit 2-7 Lowball Draw, and 2-7 Lowball Triple Draw. These games will switch every orbit and challenges the high-stakes regulars to showcase their skills in a variety of poker variants in an attempt to claim the highly sought-after gold bracelet.

With the attendance of the previous two editions having already been surpassed, defending champion Dan Cates returns with a top ten stack of 617,000. Whether or not his name will be engraved once more on the Chip Reese Memorial Trophy in a few days time remains to be seen, as he certainly faces some tough competition.

Luke Schwartz tops the leaderboard with a stack of 893,000 after knocking out Josh Arieh and doubling through Julien Martini during the final hands of Day 1. The Brit is followed by Bryn Kenney (802,000), while Shaun Deeb (718,500) and Bryce Yockey (715,000) are separated by only a few chips.

Three-time PPC champion Michael Mizrachi (435,500) and two-time winner Brian Rast (160,500) are also in contention in a field filled with live poker's biggest names. To put things into perspective, the tournament already attracted eight former champions, six Poker Hall of Famers, and five WSOP Players of the Year on Day 1.

Late registration for the five-day tournament remains open for another four levels and the following dinner break until approximately 10;20 pm local time. All new contestants will receive 300,000 in chips to start and reentries are not possible (freeze out format). The levels during the entire tournament will last 100 minutes each and players will get 15-minute breaks after every level.

Stay tuned for the PokerNews live coverage for one of the stellar events during the 2022 WSOP in its new home at Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas, as the journey to crown the next Poker Players Champion will unfold in the following four days!
