Welcome to Day 1 of Event #26: $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em Freezeout

Today is a brand new tournament for the World Series of Poker which also presents a new opportunity for someone to win a coveted gold bracelet.

Event #26: $1,000 Freezeout No Limit Hold’em is one of the many new tournaments taking place at the 2021 WSOP and don't forget you can check out all the information on this year's freezeout series in our hub . As per freezeout rules, once a player is eliminated, they will not be able to re-enter the event.

Players start with 20,000 in chips and blinds begin at 100-100 with a 100 big blind ante. Levels are 30 minutes long with a 20-minute break after every four levels and there will be a 75-minute dinner break after level 12. Play on Day 1 starts at 11 a.m. PT and is scheduled for 22 levels and after which the players will return for Day 2 on October 14.

This event is scheduled for two days, with late registration ending after level 8, around 3:40 p.m. Stay tuned to PokerNews for all your WSOP updates.

Tardif Takes Two Pots

Patrick Tardif raised to 300 on the button and had one caller in the big blind.

The flop came down and the big blind check folded to a bet of 400 from Tardif. He then turned over for kings and fives.

Tardif then moved to another table where he was involved in another pot in the big blind, versus an early position player. Action picked up on the flop of which was checked through.

The turn of the was bet at by Tardif for 600 and his opponent called.

The river of the went check-check and Tardif verbally declared "seven," before turning over . The early position player mucked his hand and Tardif won another pot.

Action was picked up on a flop of with Michael Trivett in the hijack facing a bet of 8,000 from an early position player. Trivett responded with a raise to 24,000 putting his opponent all in.

The other player went into the tank for about a minute, then called.

Hawkins Calls Correctly

Action was picked up on the flop of in a three-way pot involving Maurice Hawkins in middle position, a player in the cutoff and a player on the button. With a pot containing roughly 4,200, Hawkins bet 2,200 and both players called.

The turn came a and Hawkins bet once more to the tune of 7,400, the cutoff player folded and the button player called.

The river came a and Hawkins checked, prompting the button to lead out for 13,000. Hawkins went into the tank for about one minute before throwing his chips in and turning over for tens and fives. The opponent mucked his hand as Maurice raked in the pot and said "you just can have too many draws."

Minkin Survives All-In

With blinds now at 500/1,000 with a 1,000 big blind ante, there are plenty of sub-20 big blind stacks in the room that will be looking to get their chips in and double up.

One of those stacks belongs to Kelly Minkin, who just moved her last 18,000 in over an early position opponent's 2,500 opening raise. The opponent called and they were off to see five cards.

Short Day for Hellmuth
