Anthony Blanda finished ninth in the very first Colossus in 2015 for $67,681, in a tournament which until this year was the largest live tournament ever held. However, Blanda's deep run in another monster field has come to an end, shoving 1,600,000 with into the of a bigger stack.
"I flopped a jack, but there was an ace and a ten as well," Blanda told PokerNews after his elimination. "The turn was a queen and the river was the eight.
"I'm not disappointed in getting knocked out in 313th, I'm disappointed with the way I got knocked out with the eight on the river. I mean I never expected to get into the top 500 again. It's very difficult to do."
Both Blanda and Paul Lentz final tabled the Colossus in 2015 and both were still present at the start of Day 3. The former final tablists still recognized one another after four years and reminisced about the past together.
"Any time I see one of the guys we say hello," he said. "That was the first Colossus and it got 22,000. It was such a jump [from the previous record.
"As soon as I saw the structure with the rake free first entry, I said that this is going to break it. I knew I had to play this event.
"I've enjoyed telling my friends that I made the final table of the largest live tournament ever held. Now I can't say that anymore!"
