Hellmuth Out

Nível 10 : 600/1,200, 0 ante
Phil Helmuth
Phil Helmuth

Following a {K-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} flop, Scott Palmer checked from the big blind, a late-position player bet 4,000, Phil Hellmuth raised to 9,000 from the button, Palmer folded, and the original bettor called.

Both Hellmuth and his lone remaining opponent checked the {9-Diamonds} turn. The river then brought the {4-Clubs}. Hellmuth's opponent checked, Hellmuth bet 16,000, his opponent check-raised all in for 26,000, and Hellmuth tanked for three minutes before folding.

Hellmuth was left muttering with just 11,500 after that hand, and just a couple of hands later Vinh Ho busted him to end his Event #61 run.

Pierce Slowrolls, Slams Opponent

Nível 10 : 600/1,200, 0 ante

Paul Pierce has added chips during the first two hours of play. We just saw a couple of hands with the NBA star, one ending in a chopped pot and the other involving Pierce busting another opponent.

In the first hand, Pierce limped in from under the gun and watched as Anthony Caruso limped as well, then Michael Shklover raised to 3,000 from late position. It folded back and both Pierce and Caruso called. All three checked the {7-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{5-Clubs} flop, then after the {9-Spades} fell on the turn Pierce rechecked his cards and led with a bet of 4,200. Caruso raised all in for about 20,000 and Shklover folded, and Pierce called.

Both players had the current nuts as Pierce had {A-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{7-Hearts} and Caruso {Q-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{8-Spades}. The river was the {5-Diamonds}, and the pair split the pot.

Soon after that, we caught up with another hand that had reached the turn with the board showing {4-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}. Pierce's lone opponent had pushed all in from the small blind, and Pierce, sitting in the big blind, rechecked his cards, hesitated for a couple of seconds, and called.

Pierce then rolled over {A-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} for a straight flush, and his opponent didn't even wait for the dealer to deliver the {5-Hearts} river before mucking and leaving. The table then commented at length on the slowroll, with Pierce and David Chiu sharing a laugh afterwards.

Baldwin Busto

Nível 10 : 600/1,200, 0 ante

Alex Kravchenko raised to 2,500 from the cutoff seat, then Eric Baldwin reraised to 10,000 from one seat over on the button. The blinds stepped aside, and Kravchenko reraised back to 32,000 total. Baldwin then shoved for 64,000, and Kravchenko quickly called.

Kravchenko: {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{6-Spades}
Baldwin: {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs}

Baldwin needed to improve to survive, but the community cards brought him no help, coming {4-Spades}{J-Spades}{2-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{8-Hearts} to send Baldwin railward here in Level 10.

Chips for Chiu

Nível 10 : 600/1,200, 0 ante

David Chiu is one of those players still hoping to earn a second 2013 WSOP bracelet to match Tom Schneider as the only player with more than one so far this summer. The Event #23: $2,500 Seven-Card Stud winner just won a pot in which he was all in and at risk with one card to come, thus preserving his hopes at possibly winning a second event here.

We caught up with the hand on the turn with the board showing {7-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}. Eric Cloutier had {A-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{5-Spades} while Chiu had {A-Hearts}{10-Spades}{3-Hearts}{3-Clubs}, and Chiu was able to fade Cloutier filling an inside straight to survive and double up.

Haxton Wields Clubs

Nível 10 : 600/1,200, 0 ante

A player in middle position opened for 3,700 and got a couple of late-position callers. Isaac Haxton then three-bet to 19,300 from the big blind, prompting a reraise to 34,900 from the original raiser. That was enough to get rid of the other two callers, but Haxton stuck around, committing all of his remaining chips in order to so.

Haxton tabled {A-Clubs}{A-Spades}{6-Hearts}{2-Clubs} and his opponent {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}. The flop came especially well for Haxton, bringing three clubs — {Q-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{3-Clubs} — to give him the nut flush. The {10-Diamonds} then fell on the turn, making the {7-Spades} river no matter and giving Haxton the pot and continued tourney life.

Kakhmazov in Spades

Nível 10 : 600/1,200, 0 ante

Imad Derwiche raised from middle position to 2,700, Nadar Kakhmazov reraised to 7,000 from behind, Nicolas Faure called the reraise from the button, and when it folded back to Derwiche he called, too.

All three checked the single-suited {J-Spades}{6-Spades}{2-Spades} flop. The turn brought the {6-Clubs} to pair the board, and it checked to Faure who fired 15,000 into the middle and both of his opponents called.

The river brought the {3-Spades}, with Derwiche checking dark and the other two also checking behind. Kakhmazov tabled {A-Clubs}{K-Spades}{9-Hearts}{8-Spades} for a king-high flush, and both Faure and Derwiche mucked, with Derwiche saying he'd flopped a flush, too.

Future Less Bright, Schwartz Shuns Shades

Nível 10 : 600/1,200, 0 ante

Just as Level 9 was coming to a close, a big hand arose between Luke Schwartz (big blind) and Scott Palmer (cutoff).

We came on the hand after the {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{2-Hearts} flop had been dealt. There was about 9,000 in the middle, and it appeared as though Schwartz had checked to Palmer who'd bet, then Schwartz had check-raised to 24,000. Palmer was then making it 36,000, Schwartz reraised again to 48,000, Palmer reraised the pot, and Schwartz called all in for 115,000 total.

Schwartz had {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{3-Spades}{3-Hearts} and Palmer {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{4-Spades}, meaning both had trip queens. The turn was the {2-Diamonds}, but the river brought the {4-Clubs} to give Palmer a full house and the big pot, and Schwartz is out.

Afterwards, Schwartz got up, broke a pair of sunglasses, then tossed five hundred dollars to Phil Hellmuth who had been sitting to his left. Once he was gone, Hellmuth explained that Schwartz had just bought the sunglasses from him before the previous hand, and so now he was out the five hundy, the sunglasses, and out of the tourney, too.

Helppi Helps Himself

Nível 9 : 500/1,000, 0 ante

Four players limped to see a flop come all low cards — {2-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{3-Spades} — and all four checked around. The turn was another baby, the {2-Clubs}, and this time Jonathan Duhamel took a stab by firing 3,000 from the blinds in an effort to claim the pot.

It folded to Juha Helppi in the hijack who raised to 8,600, and when the button folded and the action was back on Duhamel, he didn't have to think to long before letting his hand go.

Duhamel still sits with roughly the stack with which he started the day, while Helppi has nearly doubled his chips since Level 9 began.
