Koon Busts Mercier and Julius

Nível 15 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Jason Mercier - Eliminated
Jason Mercier - Eliminated

Jason Mercier was all in and at risk preflop holding {4-Hearts}{4-Clubs} against Jason Koon's {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}. The kings held as the board came {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{a-Spades}{q-Clubs}{j-Clubs}, and Mercier was eliminated.

"Good luck, guys," Mercier said, leaving the table.

"Jason Koon, cleaning up," Tobias Reinkemeier said, grinning.

"It's easy," Koon started. "When you get kings."

Prior to Mercier's bust, Koon eliminated Kyle Julius:

Hansen Gets There on the Turn

Nível 15 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

Action folded to Bill Perkins in the small blind and he raised to 40,000. Gus Hansen took his time before calling from the big and then watched Perkins fire out 35,000 on the {4-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{6-Spades} flop. Hansen responded with a raise to 135,000 and Perkins wasted little time in announcing that he was all in.

"I guess I wasn't putting that much in and not calling," Hansen said before haphazardly dropping in his entire stack of 244,000.

Hansen: {5-Hearts}{j-Spades}
Perkins: {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}

"That's a good turn card for me," Hansen said nonchalantly when the {2-Clubs} peeled off to give him the straight and guaranteed double. Perkins didn't seem too thrilled and it only rubbed salt in the wound when the {10-Clubs} river gave him trips.

Mueller Plays it "Really Well"

Nível 15 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

Philip Sternheimer raised to 35,000 from early position, Greg Mueller three-bet to 87,000 on the button, and Sternheimer called. The flop fell {9-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}, both players checked, and the turn was the {5-Clubs}. Sternheimer led out for 84,000, Mueller moved all in for 390,000, and Sternheimer went into the tank.

"Well, Greg," Sternheimer said. "If you have an overpair or a set then you played it really well."

He called, and Mueller turned over {q-Spades}{q-Clubs} for an overpair. Sternheimer showed {7-Diamonds}{7-Spades}.

The {q-Hearts} fell on the river to give Mueller a set for kicks and giggles, and when the stacks were counted down, Sternheimer had exactly 390,000 as well.

"I don't get anything back?" Sternhemier said with a grin on his face. "Not even one chip?

Death Card on the River Spells Doom for Lehr

Nível 15 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Keith Lehr on Day 1.
Keith Lehr on Day 1.

A short-stacked Keith Lehr moved all in from middle position for 140,000 only to have Brian Hastings isolate with an all-in three-bet. The rest of the players folded and the cards were turned up.

Lehr: {9-Hearts}{8-Spades}
Hastings: {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}

Hastings was ahead but Lehr was drawing to two live cards. The {5-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{k-Clubs} flop actually hit one of those cards and gave Lehr the lead with a pair of eights. The {4-Clubs} turn was no help to Hastings, and all Lehr needed to do was dodge an ace and queen on the river to stay alive. That was easier said than done though as the dealer burned and put out the {A-Spades}. Hastings spiked an ace to win the pot and bounce Lehr from the tournament.

Sevens Good for Schulman

Nível 15 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

When we arrived at the table, the board was completed {5-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{4-Clubs}{2-Spades}. Nick Schulman checked, Dan Perper fired out 92,000 into a pot of around 160,000, and Schulman went deep into the tank.

While he was thinking, Schulman put both hands on his head and closed his eyes. Finally, he grabbed enough chips to make the call, and committed them.

Perper motioned that Schulman was good, and Schulman tabled {7-Clubs}{7-Spades} for a pair of sevens, winning the pot.

Don't Point Your Finger at Me

Nível 16 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

In the last hand before the level went up, Eugene Katchalov opened for 32,000 from early position only to have Ben Lamb three-bet from the cutoff for 84,000. Martin Finger proceeded to four-bet to 140,000 from the small blind and Katchalov quickly folded. Lamb wasn't so quick to act, but eventually he did the same thing.
