Event #35: $3,000 Pot-Limit Omaha

Solomon and Ladines Lead After Day 1; Arieh and Bleznick Among the Survivors

Nível 8 : 300/600, 0 ante
Joshua Ladines

After eight levels of poker here on Day 1 of Event #35: $3,000 Pot-Limit Omaha, Jarred Solomon is the chip leader, squeaking out Joshua Ladines in the last minuts of the final level of the evening. Solomon bagged 159,100 chips, Ladines 152,100 chips, and those two were the only players to finish the day with more than 130,000. Solomon finished runner-up in a bracelet event in 2011, while Ladines only has three World Series of Poker cashes, and his deepest run came in 2007, where he finished 16th in a $2,500 event for $16,775. With an eighth-place finish or higher, Ladines would earn his highest career score.

Joining Ladines atop the leader board are Ryan Chapman, Christophe Lachave, and Elie Payan. Payan was the beneficiary of a crucial river card in Level 7, which gave him a straight and eliminated 2010 November Niner Joseph Cheong.

Event #35 attracted a total of 640 players, generating a prize pool of $1,747,200, and among the other survivors were pot-limit Omaha specialists Jared Bleznick and Josh Arieh. Arieh, who has two bracelets including one in PLO, bagged 99,500 chips, while Bleznick, an online high stakes PLO cash game player sealed up 75,500 chips. On one of the last hands of the evening. Bleznick eliminated 2012 Octo-Niner Jeremy Ausmus. Ausmus went in blind, and Bleznick called with two kings, holding as the flop, turn, and river produced all blanks.

While these players prospered, others were unable to survive the day. Several players hit the rail during the eight levels of play today, including Chino Rheem, Lee Watkinson, Dario Alioto, Chris Sly, Mike Leah, Tommy Vedes, Matt Stout, Ben Yu, Scott Bohlman, Don Nguyen, Mark Radoja, and a host of others.

Play will resume tomorrow at 2 p.m., and the tournament is scheduled to play another 10 levels. We hope to see you then for continuing coverage of this and every tournament at the 2013 WSOP.

Trickett Loses Some Ground

Nível 8 : 300/600, 0 ante

Michael Kamran checked from the big blind and the player in Seat 3 checked to Sam Trickett, who was on the button and continuing his massage that has been going on for the past 90 minutes. The flop read {3-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} and Trickett decided to set the price to play at 3,000. Kamran folded but Seat 3 called.

The {5-Hearts} turn saw both players check, which is exactly what happened when the {9-Diamonds} appeared on the river.

Trickett mucked as he was show {8-Spades}{7-Spades}{6-Hearts}{5-Spades} for a straight.

Gruissem End to Watkinson's Day

Nível 8 : 300/600, 0 ante

When we arrived at Table 374, Lee Watkinson was all in and at risk with {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{10-Clubs} on a flop of {9-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{2-Spades}. German Philipp Gruissem had him at risk with {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{10-Spades}{7-Hearts}, and he held as the turn and river bricked {6-Spades}, {3-Clubs} respectively.

Gruissem now sits with 70,000 chips, while Watkinson hit the rail.

Ivey Takes on Rheem and Wins

Nível 8 : 300/600, 0 ante

Phil Ivey open-limped on the button, which allowed the small blind and Chino Rheem (big blind) to see a cheap flop.

The first three community cards fell {7-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} and the small blind checked. Rheem, who recently won the WPT World Championship Main Event, led for 1,500 only to see Ivey make it 6,000 in total. Both the small blind and Rheem folded and Ivey was left to pick up the pot uncontested.
