Perry Green Looking for Bracelet #4!

Perry Green
Perry Green

Just 14 players have made it to Day 3 of Event #31 $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha Eight-or-Better, and what an eclectic mix it is. Leading the way is Perry Green, who knows plenty about World Series of Poker gold. Green is the proud owner of three bracelets, though he hasn’t won one since 1979. Well Green is our chip leader today with 491,000.

Not far behind is Marco Johnson (475,000). Also known as “Crazy Marco” online, Johnson has made four WSOP final tables, and has two runner-up finishes. He will be looking to get that elusive first bracelet. The player in third knows plenty about WSOP gold, but she doesn’t have some for her wrist yet. Loni Harwood (444,000) is a WSOP Circuit grinder who has already won two Circuit rings, and has logged her first two WSOP cashes earlier this summer.

Further down the leaderboard, we have two bracelet winners: Barry Greenstein (287,000) and Eric Rodawig (212,000). Greenstein has won three bracelets, but it’s been five years since he won one. Rodawig won the 2011 $10,000 Seven-Card Stud Hi-Lo Championship for $442,183. This was the second of Phil Hellmuth’s unforgettable three runner-up finishes at the 2011 World Series.

The last notable in the field is Andy Seth, who is our second shortest stack with 168,000. Seth has registered a runner-up finish in both a WSOP and WPT event, and almost $1.5 million in career live earnings.

These players and the rest of the field will be getting underway in just under an hour. By the end of the night, fourteen players will be become just one player, a sole survivor, who will walk away with a WSOP gold bracelet. Follow us all day to find out who that will be! Until then, check out Kristy Arnett’s nightly recap to get caught up on all the action from the Rio!

Grzegorz Derkowski Eliminated in 14th Place ($11,574)

Nível 21 : 8,000/16,000, 0 ante
Grzegorz Derkowski
Grzegorz Derkowski

One of the most common phrases said about poker is that "fortunes can change with the turn of a card." Well no better was that on display then just now, where Grzegorz Derkowski was eliminated after a brutal run out against Stephen Johnson. Derkowski bet pot for most of his chips from early position, and it folded around to Johnson in the big blind. He asked Derkowski how much he had behind (about 45,000), then looked down at his cards, and announced all in. Derkowski quickly called.

Derkowski: {8-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}
Johnson: {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}

The flop couldn't have hit Derkowski much harder, coming down {8-Spades}{5-Hearts}{k-Clubs}. This gave Derkowski bottom two pair as well as the nut low draw, and left Johnson drawing rather slim. Well he turned the tide on the low end of the pot when the {2-Hearts} hit the turn, and he took the whole pot when the {k-Diamonds} hit the river, counterfeiting Derkowski's smaller two pair. Derkowski could only shake his head, and Johnson seemed to feel guilty taking the pot, shaking Derkowski's hand and saying "sorry man that was a sick run out."

Derkowski will have to settle for 14th place, while Johnson is now up to 340,000.

Andy Seth Eliminated in 13th Place ($11,574)

Nível 22 : 10,000/20,000, 0 ante

Andy Seth

Andy Seth was riding the short stack all day today, and hadn't gotten any action whenever he bet pot. However, he just got played back at by Gabriel Blumenthal, and Seth ended up on the short end.

Seth bet pot to 70,000 in the cutoff, and it folded to Blumenthal in the big blind. Once he got an idea of Seth's remaining stack, he moved all in, and Seth quickly called.

Seth: {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{7-Hearts}
Blumenthal: {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{8-Spades}

Seth was looking for low cards to come out, but he got the opposite of that when the flop came down {a-Spades}{k-Spades}{j-Diamonds}. Seth could only hope for low cards to come for a chop, and the turn gave him some hope with the {4-Hearts}. However, the river brought the {q-Spades}, and Blumenthal's both send Seth to the payout desk.

Stephen Johnson Eliminated in 10th Place ($14,430)

Nível 23 : 12,000/24,000, 0 ante
Stephen Johnson - 10th Place
Stephen Johnson - 10th Place

Johnson raised pot from early position to 84,000, which was for most of his chips. Action folded around to Gabriel Blumenthal in the big blind, and he announced all in. Johnson called, and the cards were tabled.

Blumenthal: {a-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}
Johnson: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{6-Clubs}

Johnson's aces were in the lead, but that all changed when the flop came down {10-Spades}{q-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}. Blumenthal had flopped broadway, and Johnson would need a king or runner runner to stay alive. The {5-Spades} hit the turn, and the {2-Spades} came on the river, busting Johnson out just before the official final table.

Perry Green Eliminated in 9th Place ($18,233)

Nível 24 : 15,000/30,000, 0 ante

Perry Green

Perry Green came into today with a slight chip lead, but he wasn't able to ride it to the end, as he was just eliminated in ninth place. Barry Greenstein made it 75,000 to go from the small blind, and Green called from the big blind. The flop came down {3-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{10-Hearts}, and Greenstein fired out 100,000. Green then moved all in, and greenstein made the call.

Greenstein: {2-Spades}{6-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{a-Spades}
Green: {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{3-Hearts}

Greenstein had the nut low draw, and could also catch a nine to take the high part of the hand. Well, the dealer obliged with a {9-Spades} on the turn, and Green was looking fora club and a club only. The river was black, but it was the {5-Spades}, and Green became our first final table causality.

Meanwhile, Greenstein extended his already lengthy chip lead, as he now has 1.56 million.

Joao Simao Eliminated in 8th Place ($23,338)

Joao Simao - 8th Place
Joao Simao - 8th Place

Marco Johnson raised to 60,000 in the cutoff and Noomis Jones called from the small blind. Joao Simao three-bet all in from the big blind for 90,000 total and Johnson reraised the pot.

"I don't understand why you would do that," Jones said before folding.

Johnson: {A-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{2-Spades}
Simao: {K-Hearts}{J-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}

The flop came down {9-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{5-Hearts}, giving Simao a flush draw. The {A-Clubs} turn paired Johnson, but gave Simao the nut low. However, the {3-Spades} river fell to give Johnson a wheel to scoop the pot and score the elimination.

Eric Rodawig Eliminated in 7th Place ($30,275)

Eric Rodawig
Eric Rodawig

Noomis Jones raised to 105,000 in early position, and as soon as it folded to Eric Rodawig in the big blind, he announced "pot". Jones said he was all in, and Rodawig called him down.

Rodawig: {a-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{q-Spades}
Jones: {a-Spades}{k-Spades}{j-Hearts}{4-Spades}

The flop came down {k-Hearts}{8-Spades}{3-Clubs}, and Jones took the lead with a pair of kings. Rodawig was looking for any low card to take half the pot, but he didn't get it on the {9-Clubs} turn, or the {k-Clubs} river.

Rodawig will take home just over $30,000 for his efforts, while Jones is now up to 500,000.

Loni Harwood Eliminated in 6th Place ($39,803)

Loni Harwood

No more then two hands after Eric Rodawig busted in 7th place, Loni Harwood bowed out in 6th. It was once again Noomis Jones who did the dirty work, as he started the hand by raising to 90,000. Harwood made the call, and they went heads up to a flop of {10-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}. Jones was first to act, and he announced pot, a bet of 225,000. Harwood then shoved all in, and Jones made the call.

Harwood: {a-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{7-Hearts}
Jones: {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}

Both stacks were virtually even, though Harwood was the one at risk with just 20,000 less than Jones. Harwood was looking for any low card for half the pot, or a four would scoop the pot for her. The turn was the {3-Clubs}, and Harwood was down to her last card. That card was the {q-Hearts}, and Harwood was eliminated, taking home just under $40,000.

Meanwhile, Jones has emerged as the biggest threat to Barry Greenstein and his mountain of chips, as Jones is now up to 985,000.
