Qualifer Josh Cranfield Bags Massive Lead; Kaverman Looks to Continue Stellar Year

Nível 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Byron Kaverman
Byron Kaverman

Welsh partypoker.net online qualifier Josh Cranfield bagged a massive overall chip lead with 176,400 on Day 1b of the 2015 World Poker Tour Prague Main Event, followed by the GPI Player of the Year leader Byron Kaverman. Kaverman's been on a tear this year with 11 six-figure cashes and a total of $3.4 million in earnings, and it looks like he's not done yet, bagging up 109,800 after Day 1b.

The second of two starting days drew a crowd of 173 players, of which 112 managed to make it through to Day 2. Combined with Day 1a's 60 entries, the total field of this WPT main tour stop now sits on 233, with late registrations and reentries available until the start of play on Day 2.

Just like on Day 1a, it was a who's who of the international poker circuit with a slew of top professionals filling up the room. Stephen Chidwick reentered on Day 1b, but he was once again not successful. European Poker Tour Malta High Roller winner Charlie Carrel doubled through Chidwick and ultimately bagged up 38,100 in his first-ever WPT. His good friend, Ben Heath, also playing his first WPT, finished on 58,300.

One of Spain's biggest names, Pablo Gordillo, had a linearly positive day, as we saw him accumulate throughout play. Gordillo bagged up 68,500, which was just a bit less than Frenchman Erwann Pecheux, who raked in 72,700.

Brits Tom Hall (64,800) and Oliver Price (60,500) made it through as well, and even Fedor Holz made a comeback from 1,200 in chips to bag up 30,300 at the end.

Play will resume at 2 p.m. local time on Thursday, as the players will play six 90-minute levels. PokerNews.com will be back for more live reporting, and until then we wish you a good night from Prague.

Riehl Grabs The Lead

Nível 6 : 250/500, 75 ante
Ludovic Riehl
Ludovic Riehl

Frenchman Ludovic Riehl just grabbed the chip lead, at a level close to what Aliaksei Boika bagged up after eight levels last night.

Francisco Oliviera raised to 700 before the flop and Riehl three-bet to 2,000 before Oliviera called. The flop came down {10-Spades}{9-Spades}{7-Hearts} and both checked. On the turn the {J-Clubs} hit and Riehl bet 2,300 after his opponent checked and Oliviera called.

The river brought the {7-Clubs} and Riehl bets 3,500 and Oliviera raised to 12,000. Riehl puts in a re-raise all in for 29,000 and Oliviera made the call.

Oliviera showed two nines for a full house, but Riehl had rivered a bigger full house with {J-Spades}{J-Diamonds}. Riehl scooped a huge pot and he's our chip leader.

Geilich Upsets Hunichen

Nível 4 : 150/300, 50 ante
Ludovic Geilich
Ludovic Geilich

When we wondered where Chris Hunichen went, we coincidentally asked the player that sent him to the rail, Ludovic Geilich.

"Yeah, I busted him," Geilich said, before giving us a detailed rundown of the action.

Hunichen raised to 500 under the gun plus one and Geilich called holding {2-Spades}{2-Clubs} after which Jean Montury called from the big blind. The flop came down {K-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{2-Hearts} and Montury checked to Hunichen who bet 750 and both Geilich and Montury called.

On the turn the {J-Spades} hit and Montury checked again, after which Hunichen bet 1,200.

Geilich, acting out what he thought he saw, said, "I thought he bet 2,200, and I raised to 3,850."

Geilich confused the chip colors his opponent threw out, and his raise was ruled to be 4,400. Montury folded, and Geilich explained to Hunichen what his intention was before the American pro called.

The river was the {5-Spades} and Hunichen checked to Geilich.

"I was thinking of betting 11,000, as he had about 18,000 left, but in the end I changed my mind," Geilich said, who moved all in.

"He tanked for like three minutes and called with ace-king, but I really thought he had something like king-jack," Geilich said, as he knocked out his opponent with a set of deuces.
