Josef Snejberg Leads the Final Eight at UKIPT Isle of Man

Nível 22 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Josef Snejberg Leads Final Eight
Josef Snejberg Leads Final Eight

Josef Snejberg, a professional poker player from the Czech Republic, finished Day 3 as the chip leader with 1,561,000 here at the UKIPT Isle of Man. IJosh Hart from the United Kingdom is second with 1,167,000 and Ireland's Fintan Gavin stands third with 1,148,000 after nine hours of play at the home of PokerStars.

Play resumed at noon today with 40 players taking their seats. The plan was to play down to the official final table of eight and for the first few levels the bust-outs came thick and fast.

One of the early departures was Team PokerStars Pro and two-times EPT Champion Victoria Coren Mitchell. She had three-bet on the button holding queens and was called by Frank Longinotti who decided to see a flop holding ace-king. All the chips went in on the jack-high flop but it wasn’t until the turn that an ace came to eliminate Coren Mitchell.

PokerStars SportStar Fatima Moreira de Melo was eliminated shortly after when her shove with {a-Clubs}{8-Clubs} got a call from PokerStars Head of Communications Lee Jones. It was looking good until the river of a board reading {4-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{7-Spades}{4-Clubs}{3-Spades} and de Melo would not get the chance to improve on her second place finish here last year.

Simon Deadman lost a big pot to David Hill and was probably lucky not to go broke as Hill just called a river bet from Deadman with a final board showing {a-Clubs}{a-Spades}{4-Clubs}{10-Spades}{5-Spades}. Deaman had flopped a full-house with {a-Hearts}{4-Hearts} but Hill got him on the river with his {a-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}. A short while later Deadman shoved with {8-Hearts}{8-Spades} and Josef Snejberg took the last of his chips holding {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}.

The story of the day though has to be local celebrity chef Darren Woods who began the day with a monster stack of 907,500 while the average stack was 201,000. He had got those chips by playing practically every hand yesterday while sinking pints of beer and downing Sambuca shots. The question was would he change his strategy now he was in sight of a big pay day and faced tougher opponents? The answer was that he did not.

After two levels Woods had lost over half his chips and was back in the pack while Geilich was one of the players benefiting from his largesse. The end for Woods came not long after as his stack had dwindled even further, he made a fairly big shove in the big blind with {a-Hearts}{2-Hearts} for 194,000 over an open from Andre Wagner who snapped him off with {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}. The final board was {5-Spades}{5-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} and Woods was out in 30th place collecting £2,340 for his efforts.

The re-draw for the final 24 players came soon after when seven more players fell before the end of level 19. At that stage it was Isle of Man resident David Hill who led the way followed by Gavin with Geilich lurking in fourth and Full Tilt Poker Ambassador Martins Adeniya holding steady in sixth.

With short-handed play across the three tables Geilich took full advantage of the less experienced and shorter stacks at his table and began raising practically every hand. With no one prepared to stand up to him Geilich began to grow his stack but it was Gavin who grabbed the lead from David Hill just before the tournament went down to two tables.

Linus Sweeney was eliminated in 17th place when his {q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} couldn’t hold against the {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} of Josef Snejberg. The board ran out {k-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} and it was the end of short-handed play as two tables of eight were formed.

Jones was knocked out in 14th place with {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds} against the {q-Spades}{q-Hearts} of Josh Hart but unlike Snejberg he failed to hit on the final {9-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} board.

Geilic briefly took the lead when his aggressive reputation paid full dividends eventually knocking out Matthew Baker who check-called every street, eventually calling off his stack on the river of a board reading {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{2-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}. Bakers {k-Hearts}{q-Hearts} was behind all the way to Geilich’s {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}.

PokerStars Team Online Player Adrienne Rowsome fell in 12th place when her three-bet shove with {a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} was called by Snejberg holding {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}. There wasn’t even a sweat and Snejberg, who had been playing a patient game all day, began to get back into contention. Indeed it wasn’t too long before Snejberg called a preflop three-bet from Geilich holding {j-Clubs}{10-Clubs} and ended up making a full house on a final board of {10-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{2-Spades}{10-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} to give him close to a million chips for the first time in the tournament.

After Isle of Man resident Christopher Corkhill was eliminated in 10th place for (£5,360) the unofficial final table of nine was set and Geilich and Snejberg would soon be clashing again. It was Snejberg who opened the action and after a series of raises it would be Snejberg who had the final say when he six-bet shoved and Geilich tank-folded.

Adeniya started the day second in chips and played a patient aggressive game all tournament long, but the Full Tilt Poker Ambassador was to be the unlucky final table bubble boy. David Hill four-bet shoved on Adeniya holding {j-Spades}{10-Spades} and Adeniya snapped him off with {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}. The cards ran out {j-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{10-Clubs}{a-Diamonds} with Hill’s two pair cracking Adeniya’s kings.

The final table of eight with hole cards will be streamed on a one hour delay tomorrow starting at 1 p.m. so be sure to join the PokerNews Live Reporting Team as we bring you exclusive hand for hand coverage of all the action as we play down to a winner who will walk away with £ 65,900 and the title of UKIPT Champion Isle of Man 2014.

Martins Adeniya Eliminated in 9th Place (£6,480)

David Hill opened to 55,000 before Full Tilt Ambassador Martins Adeniya made it 125,000 to go. Hill moved all and Adeniya called instantly.

Hill: {J-Spades}{10-Spades}
Adeniya: {K-Hearts}{K-Spades}

The flop came {J-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{6-Spades} giving Hill top pair, the {10-Clubs} on the turn was a miracle card for Hill and he got out of jail on the {A-Diamonds} river.

Adeniya was crippled and was all-in in the next hand which was a pot played out by Radgen, Geilich and Gavin. The {3-Clubs}{8-Spades}{3-Spades} flop saw Radgen bet 55,000 before Geilich made it 140,000 and Radgen folded.

Geilich showed {9-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}, picking up the dead money. Adeniya's {Q-Hearts}{7-Hearts} was ahead though in the main pot. The {6-Spades} on the turn gave the Scot the lead and Adeniya was eliminated on the {A-Hearts} river.

A full chip count/seat draw and recap will follow shortly.

Christopher Corkhill was all in preflop in a four-way pot but on the {4-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{8-Clubs} flop Fintan Gavin bet the other two players out of the pot.

Corkhill: {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds}
Gavin: {Q-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}

The turn was the {3-Hearts} which gave Corkhill a gutshot but the {Q-Hearts} on the river made Gavin two pair leaving us with an unofficial final table.

Chip counts and a seat draw will follow shortly.

Geilich and Adeniya Play a Four-Bet Pot

Nível 21 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
The Scottish Monk look.

Martins Adeniya raised to 35,000 preflop before Ludovic Geilich made it 82,000 on the button. Adeniya then four-bet to 175,000 and Geilich made the call to see an {A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} flop where both players checked.

The turn was the {10-Clubs} and Adeniya bet 200,000. Geilich shook his head for a minute or so before eventually folding.

The Scot said, "Show me kings, show me a king..." but Adeniya's cards went into the muck. "You had me preflop, I had you on the flop...I think. If I bet the flop, what do you do?"

"Jam of course," replied Adeniya.

"I was so close to just calling pre," lamented Geilich.

Rational Group Staff Member Ian Marmion got all the money in on the turn of a board reading {a-Spades}{q-Spades}{8-Hearts}{k-Clubs} and was up against Marc Radgen who had him covered.

Marmion turned over his top set {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs} and must have been feeling pretty confident but Ragden had got there on the turn with his {j-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}. Marmion needed the board to pair or he would be out. The river was the {6-Clubs} and Marmion was done for this out of his Home Game.

Josef Snejberg opened the action for 32,000 and Ludovic Geilich asked to see how much he was playing, drummed his fingers on his arms, and made the call.

David Hill folded on the button and PokerStars Team Online Player Adrienne Rowsome moved all in.

Snejberg quickly moved all in too and Geilich got out of the way.

Adrienne Rowsome turned over {a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} and gave a groan as she saw the {a-Spades}{a-Hearts} of Snejberg.

No real drama as the cards ran out {4-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{3-Spades}{5-Clubs} and Rowsome told the table, “Good game.” as she became the next player to be eliminated agonisingly short of the final table.

Matthew Baker Eliminated in 13th Place (£4,650)

Ludovic Geilich opened for 24,000 as he has been doing nearly every hand, and Matthew Baker defended his big blind.

The flop was {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{2-Spades} and Baker check-called a bet of 32,000 from Geilich. The turn card was the {8-Diamonds} and this time Baker called a bet of 86,000.

The river card was the {10-Diamonds} and Baker checked once more. Geilich reached for a tower of T25000 chips and plonked it on the felt in front of him, enough to set Baker all in.

Baker agonised for several minutes, apologising to his fellow players and trying to get a glimpse of Geilich’s face underneath his hood. Baker sighed and put out the call.

Geilich flipped over {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts} for the flopped top set. This time he had it and Baker had to turn over his {k-Hearts}{q-Hearts} before he walked away from the table in disbelief.

Terence Jordon opened the action for 24,000 and when Matthew Baker moved all in he took a little while but he did make the call.

Jordan had {a-Spades}{9-Spades} but had run into the {q-Spades}{q-Hearts} of Baker.

A final board of {10-Spades}{6-Spades}{7-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{10-Hearts} saw Jordan shake hands with his table and head for the pay-out desk.
