The numbers are officially in and there were 257 players who entered the tournament today. Adding to the 145 who played yesterday gives a grand total of 402 players meaning the overlay is just shy of £70,000.
The atmosphere after the dinner break is usually markedly different to the preceding six hours of play and here at the Isle of Man UKIPT that has proved to be the case. Short stacks with little room for manoeuvre are looking to get it in and there have already been a slew of bust outs.
The other thing that happens is that players with full bellies are thirsty for a drink. Some more than others. Isle of Man Chef of the year Darren "Tam Beetroot" Woods offered to buy Chris Moneymaker a drink and he asked for a Bourbon and Coke. Informed that this was unavailable at Vila Marina he said, “That sucks. I’ll get one at the end of the day.” Woods then ordered himself, “Three Sambucas and a pint of lager.”
When told there was four more hours of poker to play Woods was unimpressed saying, "I'm here for a good time, not for a long time."
Marcin Milde fired out a bet of 3,400 on a flop and PokerStars Team Online's Adrienne Rowsome made the call to see the on the turn. Both players checked to see the on the river where Milde checked again. Rowsome bet 6,100 and Milde made a quick call.
"Ace-high," said the Canadian, showing the . Milde tabled to win the pot.
Chris Moneymaker has been playing his usual aggressive game today with mixed results. Up to 30,000 relatively early on, down to 20,000 soon after and up to 40,000 not long after that. When we re-joined his table a few minutes ago he was reduced to 11,000.
Barry Curtis is one of the older players in the filed today and he is on Moneymaker’s table. The table have been giving him a lot of respect today believing his bets but also attacking any sign of weakness. Curtis raised under the gun for 500 and when it folded to Moneymaker in late position he three-bet him to 1,200. If he wanted to find out where he was the answer from Curtis was a raise to 2,500. Moneymaker tossed his cards in accidentally exposing the and announcing, “King jack.”
Meanwhile Moneymaker has switched from Candy Crush to some sort of city building game.
