Day 2 of the $1,100 buy-in Eureka Main Event has wrapped up more than 10 levels of play as at the first-ever PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) Cyprus stop with India's Ankit Ahuja bagging the chip lead with 10,105,000 over fellow big stacks Ali Al-Kubasi (8,125,000), Eduard Norel (6,470,000) and Luka Bojovic (4,710,000).

Only 31 players made it to the end of Day 2, less than a tenth of the number that started the day. Among those who found bags were Dutchman Tom Vogelsang, American Javier Rodriguez and Romanian Iulian-Remus Blebea.

Ahuja, who sits fourth on India's all-time money list, is no stranger to tournament success with over $1.8 million in live earnings as he chases the $362,365 up top for the eventual winner.

Day 2 Action

There were 399 players who returned for action on Day 2 and, with all of them already in the money, it didn't take long for that number to drop drastically.

One of the early eliminations was Sahab Saberikakhki, who doubled up Nikolaos Lampropoulos when his king-jack was pipped by Big Slick before losing a flip with ten-eight suited against the pocket fives of Michele D'Angelo.

Other players who fell in the early hours of Day 2 include Kenny Hallaert, Tom Middleton, Francisco Benitez and Jessica Teusl.

EPT darling and high-stakes crusher Steve O'Dwyer was contending for the chip lead as Level 20 rolled around, but the Ireland transplant's luck ran out as his top pair with king-jack was no good against the overpair of Mihaita Croitoru with Cowboys.

EPT Main Event champions Ian Hamilton and Simon Wiciak were seated side-by-side for part of the day, but things took a turn for the worse for Wiciak, who just weeks ago took down the EPT Barcelona Main Event, as his pocket kings were far out-flopped but the ace-queen of David Kaufmann. Hamilton, meanwhile, fell later in the evening in 34th place for $6,800.

Some of the other players who weren't fortunate enough to survive the day include Daniel Smiljkovic (50th - $5,900), recent Poker Masters crusher Vladas Tamasauskas (55th - $5,900) and overall Day 1 chip leader Gaelle Baumann (60th - $5,125).

Action will pick back up on Oct. 15 at noon local time on Level 27 with blinds of 30,000/60,000/60,000 and levels lasting 60 minutes in duration. The plan is to play ten levels or down to six players, whichever comes first.

Don't go far as the PokerNews live reporting team will be back tomorrow as the Eureka Main Event draws closer to crowning a winner here on the North Cyprus coast.

Play Concludes

Nível 26 : Blinds 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante

Day 2 is now complete with 31 players returning tomorrow.

Stay tuned for full chip counts and a recap of the day's action.

Ahuja, Tishkevich Get Late Boosts

Nível 26 : Blinds 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante

Andreas Tomazou raised to 100,000 in the hijack and was called by Ankit Ahuja on the button and big blind Eduard Norel.

The flop came 766 and Tomazou bet 150,000. Only Ahuja called to see the 6 turn, where Tomazou bet another 175,000.

Ahuja then raised to 400,000 and Tomazou called. Both players checked the Q river and Ahuja showed JJ to take the pot.

At another table, Aksel Aygun bet 250,000 from the hijack on a flop of K7A and Stanislav Tishkevich called on the button.

The turn came the 9 and Aygun bet another 325,000. Tishkevich again called as the 2 fell on the river, where Aygun slowed down and checked.

"I have a surprise hand," Tishkevich said.

"Me or you," Aygun asked.

"Me," Tishkevich said as he loudly slammed the table and checked back. Aygun showed KJ, but Tishkevich had AK to win the pot.

Gadzhiev Prepared to Exit, Saved by the Turn

Nível 26 : Blinds 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante

Roman Gadzhiev was all in for 935,000 from under the gun and was up against Hwany Lee in the big blind.

Roman Gadzhiev: A10
Hwany Lee: AK

Gadzhiev was dominated and stood up preparing to exit the tournament as the flop came QK5, giving Lee top pair.

The turn, though, brought the J and Gadzhiev made a straight as he sat back down, snapping a photo of the board as the river 7 sealed yet another double up.

"Scary Flop, Scary Turn, Scary Everything"

Nível 26 : Blinds 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante

Dauren Zhaparov opened to 100,000 in early position and Iulian-Remus Blebea and Aksel Aygun called from the hijack and cutoff, respectively, before Stanislav Tishkevich three-bet jammed a stack of 580,000 in the small blind.

Tishkevich covered his face with both hands and sat still as Dauren Zhaparov entered the tank, eventually landing on a fold. Meanwhile, Blebea shoved a bigger stack and Aygun got out of the way.

Stanislav Tishkevich: KK
Iulian-Remus Blebea: KQ

Tishkevich was in good shape to double as the flop landed 810J to give Blebea a open-ended straight draw. The 3 turn gave Blebea additional outs with a flush draw, but the 5 river was safe for Tishkevich as he earned the double.

"Scary flop, scary turn, scary everything!" Tishkevich said in relief as he raked in the pot.
