Spanish Sighs

Nível 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

Antonio Esfandiari had just joined the table and was talking about some cool clubs he had been to when a hand broke out around him.

Tudor Purice opened for 500 and called a raise to 1,500 from Raul Mestre from Spain. The blinds folded and the two players saw a flop of {k-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{2-Hearts}.Purice check-called a bet of 2,500 from Mestre and they saw a turn card {7-Diamonds}. Once more Purice check-called, now a bet of 5,500 from Mestre.

They both checked the river card {5-Spades} and when Purice showed {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} Mestre sighed deeply and gave up his hand.

“What? Why are you sighing?” Purice asked, but answer came there none.

Govert Metaal

There was 2,000 in the pot and the board read {6-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{6-Spades}. Marcos Paneque bet out from first position for 1,000. Govert Metaal made the call and the small blind folded.

The turn was the {4-Clubs} and both players checked. Paneque said, “Ace.” turning over {a-Spades}{10-Diamonds}. Metaal nodded and mucked his cards.

Nível 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

Ami Barer from Canada had raised to 3,000 before JC Alvarado from Mexico raised him right back to 7,500.

Barer splashed out another raise to 11,400 and when Alvarado moved all in Barer mucked his cards and let out a cackle.

Vanessa Selbst
Vanessa Selbst

PokerStars Team Pro Vanessa Selbst seems to love difficult decisions and prides herself in nearly always getting them right.

She was facing a pot sized bet of 6,000 on a final board of {j-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{j-Spades}{4-Spades}{8-Diamonds} from online qualifier Michael Kanaan. Selbst went through the action, taking her time before making the fold.

No show from her opponent so this puzzle will remain a mystery.

Gould History Lesson for Duval

Nível 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

Peter Gould is one of the older players at the table; from the UK he was previously a professional poker player. He took 3rd in a $1,000 NLHE event back in 2008 for$250,000 and has numerous other cashes.

“You used to be famous?” an incredulous Jason Duval asked. “For poker?”

Gould took it good humour and played it down insisting that he was now just a recreational player as he opened the next pot for 450.

He got one caller, and when they saw a flop of {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{6-Spades} a continuation bet from Gould took it down.

Vogelsang Suffers Asmar Attack

Nível 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

Christoph Vogelsang opened to 325 preflop but Hady Jean El Asmar made it 1,025 in the seat behind him. It was passed back around to the German who made the call to see a {A-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} flop but both players checked.

The turn was the {10-Hearts}, Vogelsang checked again and El Asmar bet 1,725. Vogelsang gave it some serious contemplation but elected to fold his hand after a couple of minutes' thought.
