Ekrem Sanioglu is the Chip Leader at the End of Day 3 of the PokerStars.fr EPT Deauville Main Event

Nível 19 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Ekrem Sanioglu
Ekrem Sanioglu

Ekrem Sanioglu, a French amateur player, finished as the chip leader at the end of Day 3 of the PokerStars.fr European Poker Tour Deauville Main Event. He will be bringing back 1,300,000 in chips. Not afraid to play big pots against anyone, Sanioglu's fearlessness was well rewarded. He is followed closely by Team PokerStars Pro Eugene Katchalov, who was around the top of the leaderboard for most of the day and will return with 1,191,000. Katchalov is also the only Team Pro remaining. Norbert Szecsi is third with 1,184,000 in chips.

Day 3 commenced with 137 players still in contention. With 95 spots getting paid, it would be a tense first few levels. The prize pool totaled €3,355,000 with the winner looking to earn €614,000, but when play began there was still a long way to go and the immediate target for many players was simply to survive the dreaded money bubble.

Level 15 exits included Team PokerStars Pro Jan Heitmann and Friend of PokerStars Pierre Neuville. Another Team PokerStars Pro, Alex Kravchenko, lasted a bit longer, but he too failed to make it to the end of the day.

The UK's Stephen Chidwick was the unlucky bubble boy, falling with one minute of Level 16 still to play. Tobias Wagner from Germany raised and called Chidwick’s all-in shove. The British player held the {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds} against the {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} of Wagner. After another player claimed to have folded an ace, the cards ran out {6-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{9-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} to knock Chidwick out and send the remaining players into money.

As play resumed at the start of Level 17, Szecsi was in the lead followed by Anthony Lerust and then Katchalov in third. A string of bust outs soon followed as short stacks looked to spin it up or go home happy with their €9,500 min-cash.

Alex Goulder, a PokerStars player from the UK, small-balled his way through the day, chipping up steadily. Even a table change with Alexander Lakhov directly to his left could not persuade him to change his style. He ended the day on a healthy 696,000 in chips.

PokerStars player Jamila von Perger fell in the last level of the day when her {q-Spades}{q-Clubs} went up against the {a-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} of Chun Ho Law. Von Perger couldn’t believe her luck on the flop and her frustration showed as the cards ran out {10-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{7-Clubs}{4-Hearts}. Another German, Artur Koren, also fell late when his with {a-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} clashed against Szecsi’s {j-Hearts}{j-Spades}. The board came out {9-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{7-Spades}{5-Diamonds}.

Play resumes on Thursday at 12 p.m. local time when 41 players will return. Follow all the stories, chip counts, and bust outs right here at PokerNews, and follow the action live on the feature table at PokerStars.tv as we head into the final three days of the tournament looking to crown a new PokerStars.fr EPT Deauville champion.

Three-Way All In!

Nível 19 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Tatu Maenpaa
Tatu Maenpaa

Jose Carlos Garcia opened to 17,000 from the hijack and Miha Gabric shoved all in for 155,000 right next to him in the cutoff. Next to him Tatu Maenpaa was seated on the button with 640,000 and he announced all in as well. But that sure wasn't the end of it. Luca Moschitta in the small blind had a decision and eventually announced all in as well. The big blind and initial raiser Garcia (showing the {A-Diamonds}) both folded and a three way all in was at hand.

Miha Gabric (shortest stack with 155,000): {A-Spades}{K-Spades}
Tatu Maenpaa (middle stack with 640,000): {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}
Luca Moschitta (big stack having everybody covered): {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}

The {A-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} guaranteed Gabric the triple up. Maenpaa was still in the lead for the 970,000 big side pot. The {6-Hearts} on the turn was a blank and so was the {7-Spades} on the river. Two happy players, one not so much.

Jasper Wetemans Eliminated in 53th Place (€12,080)

Nível 19 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Jasper Wetemans
Jasper Wetemans

Sotirios Koutoupas, who finished second in season nines EPT Prague for €510,000 and went deep there this season as well, raised it up to 16,000 from under the gun plus two. Jasper Wetemans on the button announced all in and Jean-Yves Malherbe quickly released his big blind. 141,000 total and Koutoupas called after some tanking.

{A-Clubs}{6-Clubs} for Koutoupas and {A-Hearts}{K-Spades} for Wetemans. The {6-Diamonds} in the window spelled doom for Wetemans who needed to go looking for a king or runner runner after the {Q-Clubs} and {5-Spades} complemented the flop. The {J-Spades} gave Wetemans four extra outs but the {4-Diamonds} wasn't one of them.

"Sorry mate" said the Greek. "No problem. Good luck" said Wetemans. While walking to the pay-out desk Wetemans commented that he had been lucky in some other spots today so he wasn't upset about this "bad beat" at all. €12,080 for Wetemans who now has cashed in all 5 of the last 5 EPT Main Events he has played.

Bruel's Swan Song

Nível 18 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Patrick Bruel
Patrick Bruel

It's all over for singing sensation Patrick Bruel. He went to war holding {10-Spades}{6-Diamonds} on an {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{7-Spades} flop, but unfortunately for the Frenchman, EPT London finalist Ludovic Geilich wasn't going anywhere with {A-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}. The {Q-Diamonds} turn and {7-Clubs} river changed nothing and Bruel went out in 61st place.

Bubble Bursts – Chidwick’s Kings Crash Out

Nível 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Stephen Chidwick bubbles the EPT Deauville Main Event
Stephen Chidwick bubbles the EPT Deauville Main Event

“Raise, all-in and a call.” Was how Tobias Wagner described it before the cards were turned over. With the cameras and reporters crowding round the table it was time to turn over the hole cards. Wagner had {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} and the at risk player was PokerStars player from the UK Stephen Chidwick who held {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}. The dealer dealt out the board {6-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{9-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}. The bad news delivered right on the flop and no king to the rescue.

The remaining players are now in the money and a disappointed Chidwick made a dignified exit.

Análise de Mãos

This hand well demonstrates a player — Stephen Chidwick — showing no fear about busting the tournament shy of the money. Read more about this hand and bubble decision-making on Learn.PokerNews in "Lesson from EPT10 Deauville: Don't Be Afraid of the Bubble."

The Old 5-bet Fold

Nível 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Aurelien Soutchkov
Aurelien Soutchkov

Hungarian player Norbert Szecsi opened for 8,500 under the gun and was met by a reraise from Frenchman Aurelien Soutchkov on the button to 21,500. Szecsi four bet to 59,500 and was quickly met by a 5-bet by Soutchkov to 110,500. Soutchkov had 266,000 behind at that moment but wasn't willing to invest those chips as well. Szecsi 6-bet to 164,500 and Soutchkov folded after less than a minute of thinking.

"You got aces" he asked Szecsi who didn't answer. You'll never know" said table mate Danny Blair.

Niels Van Leeuwen

A big coinflip just went the way of two-time bracelet winner JP Kelly. The Englishman's {Q-Clubs}{Q-Spades} beat Niels van Leeuwen's {A-}{K-} on a {3-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} board for a huge pot worth around 175,000.

Van Leeuwen wasn't too sad, he had already won the FPS Main Event for around €175,000 early this week.

Jan Heitmann

Team PokerStars Pro Jan Heitmann, who might well be the nicest person in the world, has just been eliminated from the tournament.

He pushed with {4-Spades}{4-Diamonds} from middle position but Andrew Sweeney made the call behind him with {K-Clubs}{K-Diamonds} and there were no surprises on the {A-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{2-Spades} board.

"I only had 30 big blinds coming into today, so I'm not too disappointed," said the affable German.

Bruel Busts Mitchell

Nível 15 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante
James Mitchell
James Mitchell

James Mitchell was at one point the chip leader yesterday after coolering someone with set over set. He had over 200,000 at the time but from that pile of chips none remain at this time. He busted some minutes ago after already starting the day short.

He pushed from the hijack position and Patrick Bruel made the call from the big blind. Bruel had just {K-Clubs}{9-Spades} but was in front against Mitchell's suited {J-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}. According to the free PokerNews Poker Odds Calculator Bruel had a 59.10 percent chance of winning the hand while Mitchell had 40.29.

Bruel flopped a pair but Mitchell's chances improved to 45.56 percent after the {9-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}{2-Spades} flop. The {8-Clubs} on the turn and {9-Clubs} on the river didn't help the man from the United Kingdom though and well before the money stage Mitchell left the tournament.
