Arda, Better, Faster, Stronger

Nível 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

Joining the table mid-action prelop, Pokernews saw Alain Bauer making a three-bet to 1,325 before Ozgur Arda four-bet to
2,950.

Bauer made the call to see an {A-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} flop where he called a further 2,450 bet from Arda.

The turn was the {7-Spades} and Arda fired a bet of 5,400 this time.

Bauer declared, "You never know what I have here..." He think flicked in the call, "Lets go crazy, huh?"

The river was the {9-Diamonds} and Arda moved all in for about 22,300 - Bauer quickly folded {K-Clubs}{8-Clubs} face up.

"Show the Bluff! It's Good for the Game"

Nível 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

On a {A-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{8-Spades} flop we saw the big blind check to the player under the gun. Nikolas Segredakis from Greece bet out 1,700 and David Boyaciyan and the player in the big blind made the call. The {3-Diamonds} on the turn made everybody check and the dealer put out the {A-Hearts} to complete the board.

The big blind and Segredakis checked to Boyaciyan who bet 3,800. The big blind thought about it for quite some time but eventually folded. Segredakis made it 8,500 though and action was back on Boyaciyan with the decision. He asked how much Segredakis was playing behind, but eventually folded.

"Show the Bluff! It's Good for the Game" said Boyaciyan and the player in the big blind en core with a smile. Segredakis smiled and then showed the {9-Spades} while raking in the chips.

When Dovz Cry

Nível 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

Alexander Dovzhenko's tournament life has ended but he went out in style.

Dovzhenko was holding {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds} on an {8-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}{10-Spades} flop against Martin Schleich's {J-Clubs}{10-Clubs}. The flush draw and gutshot against two pair.

The {6-Clubs} turn changed nothing and neither did the {4-Spades} river. Like many monster draws, Newcastle United's football season or dates I've been on, all the potential ended up being for nothing.

"I Knew He Wasn't Bluffing"

Nível 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

On a {Q-Spades}{10-Clubs}{J-Spades}{J-Hearts} board we saw the player in the small blind bet out 1,000. The big blind made the call and Bart Lybaert on the button tossed in a yellow 1,000 chips as well. The river was the {4-Hearts} and the small blind now bet out 2,500. The big blind quickly released but Lybaert thought about it for a little longer. After a little less than half a minute of thinking he made the call, only to get shown the same hand. Lybaert his {J-Clubs}{9-Spades} was splitting against the small blinds {J-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} and they both received an equal share of the pot. "I knew he wasn't bluffing," Lybaert told us, "but I can't really fold."

Countryman Guy Goossens is seating one table down. He asked if they were the sole two Flemish players today. We're not sure about that, but there aren't a whole lot. So far Goossens is doing better than Lybaert:

Metaal Gone

Nível 5 : 150/300, 25 ante
Govert Metaal
Govert Metaal

Govert Metaal started the day with a nice hand where his aces beat someones queens on a low board. That made for a good start but the rest of the day wouldn't be so prosperous.

Metaal told us he had limped in under the gun with {K-}{Q-}. Someone had isolated to 550 and two player called before action was back on Metaal again. He limp squeezed to 1,900 and just the player who had isolated him made the call.

Metaal flopped gin on {K-}{Q-}{8-} rainbow and made a 2,000 continuation bet. His opponent made the call and the {J-Hearts} popped up on the turn. Metaal bet 4,100 and called the raise to 8,400 that followed. The river was a complete blank and Metaal check called a 12,000 bet.

Metaal's opponent had {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} for the nuts and Metaal had to forfeit his cards. That left the Dutch regular with just 6,600 in chips. Not much later we saw him heading for the exit. No comeback for Metaal is seems.

Bad Day for ElkY So Far

Nível 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

We joined the action on the flop where Team PokerStars Pro Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier had bet 750 on a flop of {4-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} and had been check-raised to 2,050 by Zeien Thibaud from France. Elky made the call and they saw the turn card fall the {5-Clubs}. Thibaud checked and then called a bet of 2,600 from ElkY and they saw a final river card of {7-Spades}. They both checked and when Thibaud turned over {5-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} for two pair Elky shook his head beneath his hood and sighed deeply. He then sighed and shook his head some more.

Determined to fight back Elky opened the next pot for 600 and found one caller in the big blind, Clement Guilleminot. They both checked the flop {9-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} and the turn {a-Hearts}. When the river came a {2-Hearts} Guilleminot threw out a 600 bet and ElkY flicked in the chips. Guilleminot’s {k-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} was good enough and a few more chips slipped from ElkY’s stack.

A Triumvirate of Triple Crown Winners

Nível 5 : 150/300, 25 ante
Jake Cody
Jake Cody

If somebody has won a live poker Triple Crown it means that they've won a WSOP Bracelet, a WPT Main Event and an EPT Main Event. Currently only five players hold that distinction Gavin Griffin was the first to achieve this feat and Roland De Wolfe the second. They weren't playing today but the other three were:

Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier: PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (Jan, 2008), WPT Festa Al Lago (October, 2008) and $10,000 7-Card Stud WSOP Bracelet (June, 2011).

Jake Cody: EPT Deauville (Jan, 2010), WPT London (August, 2010) and WSOP $25,000 no-limit Hold'em Heads-Up bracelet (May, 2011)

Davidi Kitai: WSOP $2,000 pot-limit Hold'em bracelet (June, 2008), WPT Celebrity Invitational (February, 2011) and EPT Berlin (April, 2012)

Whilst there are plenty of players who need an EPT title to complete the set - which is the toughest way to to do it as there are less EPT's per year than WSOP or WPT - there are only two players in the field here in Deauville who can crash the party. They both played yesterday and Team PokerStars Pro Eugene Katchalov (74,000) and Dominik Nitcsche (54,400) are both in with a shot or doing just that.

As for those already in the 'club' it wasn't a great day for Kitai as he's already out but Cody (41,800) and Grospellier (23,100) are still in.
