The Eerie Silence of Carter Gill
Carter Gill and Jacky Wang have been dancing a pas de deux today at a table near the front of the room. They were at it again just a few moments ago, with Wang opening from middle position for 2,800 and Gill calling from the button. Wang continued for 2,900 on a flop of ; Gill called to see the hit the turn. Wang's bet of 3,700 wasn't enough to shake Gill, as he called again. The river brought a check from Wang and a bet of 7,000 from Gill.
"Soul read Carter one time?" Wang mused aloud. He stared intently at the board and at Gill for about a minute before tossing 7,000 into the pot. Gill silently turned over , an airball. Wang showed for a pair of treys and the winner.
"Nice hand," said Gill.
"Figured it was the right time for it, right?" Wang asked. Uncharacteristically, Gill had no response.
