Worst Table Draw in the House?

Nível 2 : 50/100, 0 ante
William Kassouf
William Kassouf

If there's a table that you don't want to be at in Event #74: $1,111 Little One for One Drop, it's probably William Kassouf's table...

But it's probably not for the reason you're thinking.

Along with Kassouf sits a set of recognizable poker players, all of whom boast a list of impressive results. Take for example Sorel Mizzi, whose 42 World Series of Poker cashes surpass $1,000,000. Or Allyn Shulman, who holds a World Series of Poker gold bracelet, along with nearly $800,000 in WSOP earnings.

Perhaps the table can also be a good experience for players by playing with one of poker's biggest mouth's in the game, Kassouf, or author Maria Konnikova, who sits at the table as well.

William Kassouf recently faced off against one other player on a {A-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{3-Clubs} flop. The player bet 200, and Kassouf called. The {2-Clubs} came on the turn.

"That's the money card," Kassouf said. "Uh oh, they're blogging this one, Alex. The boys are going to be watching you from Birmingham. They're gonna say, 'Why did you try to bluff Kassouf, man? You know he always has it?' I got you, man. I got the nuts. Don't bluff."

Kassouf's erratic talk eventually led to a check from the player he called Alex. Kassouf fired out 600, which was roughly a pot-sized bet, and Alex folded.

"It's good for the game," Kassouf said. "I'll show you one. I hit the deuce." Kassouf showed the {2-Hearts} and then began rambling about wanting Maria Konnikova to straddle. "I promise it will be live. No, get your mind out of the gutter, not straddle like that."

A series of bets and raises created a pot of over 6,000 before the flop with five-way action.

The flop came {A-Spades}{4-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}, and Pok Kim was first to act. She shoved all in for 2,325.

"I got the button," Kim said, holding up the all-in button. "I got a straight draw, come on. Call. I need the chips."

Kim's shove got through all five opponents, with one of them saying that he folded {K-}{K-}, and she was awarded the big pot.

Negreanu Knows How to Make an Entrance

Nível 4 : 100/200, 25 ante
Daniel Negreanu (as seen in previous event)
Daniel Negreanu (as seen in previous event)

Daniel Negreanu just took his seat in the Miranda Room, announced, "Let's gamble," and got it in blind on the first hand.

A player in middle position raised to 500. Negreanu moved all in from the hijack for 9,975. The player in the big blind called, and the original raiser folded.

Daniel Negreanu: {j-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}
Big blind: {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}

The flop was {j-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{3-Hearts}, and Negreanu paired up with a backdoor straight draw. He began shouting for a four as a huge crowd gathered around the table. The turn was the {6-Spades}. Now the straight draw was open-ended, and Negreanu kept on calling out his cards while people were looking onward, recording and taping this fun moment. The dealer burned a card and flipped over the {2-Clubs} on the river, completing Negreanu's straight. He leapt into the air in excitement.

Several high-fives went around, and Negreanu was sure to capture some of the moment for his vlog. He stated, "How fun was that?! All for a good cause and charity."

He certainly is right. The charismatic Canadian and face of the poker world makes this game we love that much more enjoyable.

Daniel Weinand Tells The Story of Negreanu's First(?) Bustout

Nível 5 : 150/300, 50 ante
Daniel Negreanu from the Main Event
Daniel Negreanu from the Main Event

Daniel Weinand was overheard telling the story of one of Negreanu's bustouts from the tournament, though it's not clear whether it was Negreanu's first or second bullet.

"He opened under the gun for 400," Weinand explained. "The hijack shoved all in. Then, either the cutoff or the button re-shoved. I was in the big blind with queens, and Negreanu called."

Negreanu was holding {5-}{7-} and was up against Weinand's {Q-}{Q-} as well as another pair of {Q-}{Q-} and a pair of {K-}{K-}, as well.

"He almost made a straight," Weinand explained. "And on the first hand, he shoved with ten-eight off-suit and doubled up against sixes!"

Negreanu has already rebought and taken a seat in the Pavilion Room, and it appears as if he's taking a relaxed approach to this tournament.

Negreanu Busts... Again; On To Buy-In #7

Nível 5 : 150/300, 50 ante
Anson Tsang and Daniel Negreanu
Anson Tsang and Daniel Negreanu

It only took Negreanu two hands to bust again. In the first hand, after the under-the-gun player folded, Negreanu shoved all in for 9,950.

"I think I have kings," Negreanu said. "I haven't looked yet."

Everyone folded, and Negreanu turned up his {Q-Clubs}{6-Hearts}.

"Aww," he said. "I could've won." One player at the table said he folded a pair. "You folded a pair?! You should be ashamed of yourself."

The player who said he folded a pair then proceeded to take a selfie with Negreanu. "I hope you win many more bracelets," he said.

On the next hand, Negreanu shoved blind again, before he was even dealt cards, in fact.

"Okay, I definitely have kings this time," he said. As the entire table began to fold, Negreanu began to get antsy. "What the heck is going on here?!"

Eventually the big blind, Anson Tsang, called.

"I have kings, sorry," Negreanu said.

"Do you really?" Tsang asked.

"No! I haven't looked," Negreanu replied.

Tsang was holding {A-Spades}{9-Diamonds}, while Negreanu was dominated with {9-Clubs}{3-Hearts}. The board ran out {8-Spades}{4-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{5-Clubs}, and that earned Tsang all of Negreanu's chips.

"Well, at least you called. Good job," Negreanu said on his way out. "Okay, on to lucky number seven!"

With that, Negreanu exited again and went back to the cage to re-enter once again.

Ryan Riess Calls His Shot

Nível 6 : 200/400, 50 ante
Ryan Riess (as seen in previous event)
Ryan Riess (as seen in previous event)

As the reporters approached his table, Ryan Riess looked up and says, "Watch, I'm about to double up." The dealer was just finishing her riffle, and Riess added, "and It's going to be Jeff over here." Jeff Fielder ws sitting on Riess's immediate left, in the big blind as Riess was in the small blind.

The dealer pitched out all the cards, and action folded to Riess, who peeled back one card and moved all in for 6,550. Fielder, in the big blind, looked at his first one and said, "No good." He then looked at his second one and said, "I call."

Ryan Riess showed the one card he looked at, which was the {a-Diamonds}, and Fielder showed {a-}{5-Spades}. Riess then peeled back his other card, revealing the {q-Clubs}.

The board ran out {j-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{a-Clubs}, and as both players were having a good laugh, Riess got the double-up he predicted. If he wasn't such a talented and successful poker player, one would suggest he start a psychic network of sorts.

Michael Gagliano Loses a Massive Pot to Bust Before Break

Michael Gagliano
Michael Gagliano

With heaps of chips already in the middle of the table on a board of {6-Spades}{A-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{7-Diamonds}, Jeff Fielder bet 15,000.

Michael Gagliano was to his right and he moved all in for just about 25,000 more. Fielder sighed, leaned back and said, "As soon as I bet 15,000 I knew this was going to happen."

Eventually, Fielder settled on a call. Gagliano turned up {6-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} for a set of sixes, but Fielder showed {Q-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds} for a higher set of queens. Gagliano immediately realized his fate, stood up, wished everyone luck and exited the tournament area while Fielder became one of the tournament's chip leaders.
