"Is Johnnie Craig in the field?" asked a player seated in the Amazon room.

Craig — the defending champion of this event — is seated in Pavilion and we told the player that.

"Good," he said, revealing himself to be Jim Lotfi, 2016 runner-up.

Lotfi took home $332,413 for his second-place finish last year, and will be looking to go that one step further having built up an early stack of around 13,000.

Norman Falton Chipping Up

Nível 4 : 100/200, 25 ante

When we got to the table, the player under the gun bet 650 on a {2-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} flop. Falton three-bet to 3,000 from one seat over. The player in the big blind called, and the initial raiser let it go.

The dealer burned and turned the {q-Spades}, and the player in the big blind moved all in. Falton quickly called and revealed {j-Spades}{j-Clubs}.

''Shit'' his opponent said, as he tabled {a-Hearts}{j-Spades}. The {3-Diamonds} river completed the board and Falton raked in the pot.

Philip Cooley Makes Quads

Nível 3 : 75/150, 25 ante

A player in early position opened to 350. Action folded around to the player in the lojack who called, along with the player in the hijack and Cooley in the small blind.

The flop was {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}. Cooley bet 800. The original raiser folded, and the other two called. The turn came the {a-Spades} and it checked through. The {3-Diamonds} came on the river, and once again, action was checked around.

Cooley directly tabled his {Q-Clubs}{10-Clubs} for quads and murmured: ''I was hoping someone bet it for me'' as his opponents mucked their hands.

Dan Hughes Secures Double-Elimination

Nível 3 : 75/150, 25 ante

There was a three-way all in at Dan Hughes' table with Hughes himself holding pocket sixes against the {k-}{k-} of one gentleman and the {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs} of a lady in the hand.

The flop was {j-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{3-Clubs} giving the lady the nut flush. But the turn was the {6-} and the river the {3-} giving Hughes a full house, good enough to eliminate both other players in the hand and boost his stack to around 15,000.
