Day 1 of Event #21: $1,500 8-Game Mix 6-Handed attracted a field of 472 players, creating a prize pool of $637,200, and at the end of an exhausting 10 levels of play it is Christopher Vitch who leads the remaining players advancing to Day 2.

It was tight at the top between Vitch and Alex Luneau (72,400) for the chip lead at the end of the day, but Vitch eliminated David Bach in one of the last hands of the night where he flopped a flush against the Aces of Bach in Pot-Limit Omaha.

There were bracelet winners galore at the start of the day, with many names taking the opportunity to play in an oft-spread mix of poker variants such as 8-Game. These included David "Bakes" Baker, Chris Bjorin, Marcel Vonk, Kenneth Aldridge, Vanessa Selbst, Bruno Fitoussi, David Diiorio, Anthony Zinno, Jared Bleznick and Konstantin Puchkov. None of these players would advance to Day 2.

Early chip-leader was Walter Treccarichi who eliminated a player after flopping a set against his opponent's set of nines, but never really kicked on from his early peak and exited quietly shortly before the final break of the day.

Defending champion Paul Volpe registered late but didn't last long as he too was eliminated before the end of play.

There are still some big names left in the field ahead of Day 2, most notable of whom is Daniel Negreanu who bagged up 57,300 after chipping up early, and using relentless aggression in his pursuit of yet another deep run at this year's WSOP.

Other names include five-time bracelet winner Jason Mercier (11,700) and his wife Natasha Mercier (11,900), three-time bracelet winners Barry Greenstein (3,800) and Eli Elezra (22,400), and former November Niner Josh Beckley (33,000).

Seventy-one players will cash and the money bubble is expected to burst tomorrow, with 71st place worth $2,259. However, tomorrow is all about putting players in as good a position as possible for making a deep run towards the first prize of $145,577 and the much-coveted WSOP bracelet.

Four-Time Bracelet Winner Max Pescatori Eliminated

Nível 10 : 1/2, 0 ante

Pot-Limit Omaha:

"What's the next game?" asked Max Pescatori, who was nursing a short stack. Someone moved the plaque to reveal Pot-Limit Omaha. "Yes!" said Pescatori, "Pot, pot pot!"

A few hands later Troy Thompson opened from middle position by potting to 1,750 and Max Pescatori called on the button. The flop came {j-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{3-Spades}. Thompson bet 4,000 and Pescatori moved all in for just 500 more and Thompson called.

Pescatori: {a-Spades}{4-Hearts}{6-Spades}{10-Diamonds}
Thompson: {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{j-Hearts}

"It's not a bad flop," said Pescatori, "But it's the turn that matters."

The turn was the {q-Clubs} giving Pescatori even more outs meaning any king, seven, eight, deuce or spade would mean he stayed alive. The river was the {a-Clubs} and he swore in Italian before leaving just before the end of play for the day.

Lodden Thinks in the $1,500 8-Game

Nível 9 : 800/1, 0 ante

It's late. It's been a long day. It was only a matter of time before Lodden thinks made an appearance in proceedings here in the $1,500 8-Game Mix, and it was at the table of Shaun Deeb, Randy Ohel and Natasha Mercier where it was in full swing.

Previous questions have included how much cash was on the persons of the seven people (six players, plus the dealer) at the table, and how many hands a single 1,000-denomination chip will go through over the course of the 2017 World Series of Poker.

The latest question? How much money would it take for Randy Ohel to change his name permanently to Allen Kessler.

As the amount went higher and higher, surpassing the $500k mark, Mercier mentioned that she would probably take $500k to change her name to that of Allen Kessler.

"I bet you $100 that Jason won't allow it," said Deeb as he headed over to find him. When he returned, with Jason remaining unconvinced, the game continued. Eventually they had to find out how much Ohel would take.

He motioned upwards with his thumb. "Way more," he said, "$7.5 million! I like my name!"

At this point the dealer raised an interesting point: "Do you have to include Chainsaw in the name?"

Martin Staszko Eliminated by Shaun Deeb

Nível 9 : 800/1, 0 ante

No-Limit Hold'em:

Shaun Deeb raised to 1,000 and Martin Staszko three-bet all in for 9,000. It folded back to Deeb.

"Ten, nine thousand?" he asked, and counted out that exact amount. He held it about four inches above the table out in front of him, hovering and wavering before calling.

Deeb: {k-Diamonds}{q-Spades}
Staszko: {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}

There was a queen in the window, but also a king as the flop came {k-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}. The turn was the {j-Spades} giving Staszko some straight outs, but the river was the {3-Clubs} meaning that he was eliminated.

Jennifer Tilly Pays Off Viktor Celikovsky

Nível 9 : 800/1, 0 ante

Pot-Limit Omaha:

With the board reading {5-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{a-Clubs}, Jennifer Tilly checked to her opponent, Czech player Viktor Celikovsky, who bet 6,000 into a pot of 11,000. After some consideration, Tilly called.

Celikovsky turned over {a-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{j-Clubs} for a wheel straight and took down the pot.
