Day 1 in Event #72: $10,000 No-Limit 2-7 Lowball Draw Championship (7-Handed) has ended at Horeshoe and Paris Las Vegas at the 2024 World Series of Poker. The field grew quickly as the day progressed, with 129 entries after the conclusion of Day 1, with 47 players bagging at the end of the night. Many big names remain in the mix, but the player who bagged the most chips is Japan's Naoya Kihara with 379,000 chips.

Bracelet winner Kihara will have his eyes on bracelet number two, but it will be no easy task in a field full of the poker world's best. Behind him in second place is $25K Fantasy Draft Team Lucky member Matt Glantz (365,000) and in third is two-time bracelet winner Taylor Paur (360,000).

This event has brought out some of the biggest names in the poker world. With players like Shaun Deeb (327,000), Alex Foxen (303,500), Robert Mizrachi (272,500), Erik Seidel (178,500), Dario Sammartino (176,000), and Nick Schulman (165,000) all coming back for Day 2.

Some players who did not make it to the end of Day 1 include Chance Kornuth, Jared Bleznick, Jeremy Ausmus, Brad Ruben, Calvin Anderson and Maxx Coleman.

With players being able to register and reenter for the first two levels of Day 2, many more entries are expected with big names joining the mix. Players are allowed one reentry so surely some of the players who busted on Day 1 will be back tomorrow to fire their second bullet.

Action is set to resume at 1 p.m. local time on June 29. Play will resume in Level 11 at the 1,500-3,000 blind levels.

Dzivielevski Avoids Late-Night Departure

Yuri Dzivielevski tossed in his final 10,000 chips from the cutoff and was called by David Funkhouser in the big blind. Each player drew two cards and showed down.

Funkhouser turned over 7x3x for a pair of sevens, and Dzivielevski was safe after he revealed a 4x. The Kx completed his hand as he survived during the final hands of the night.

Matusow Starting to Build His Stack

When action folded to Mike Matusow in the cutoff, he raised to 7,000. David "Bakes" Baker made the call on the button.

Matusow chose to stand pat, while Baker drew one.

Both players checked and Matusow tabled Jx10x7x3x2x as Baker mucked his hand.

Seiver Over-Bets Mercier

Scott Seiver made it 7,000 to go in the hijack and Jason Mercier defended his big blind. Each player drew one and Mercier checked to Seiver.

Seiver made a bet of 28,000 and this sent Mercier into the tank.

"Why so big, Scott? What is this?" Seiver asked his opponent. Seiver said nothing until Mercier finally tossed in a call.

"You got it," he stated, and Mercier tabled 10x8x6x4x3x for the winning hand.

Breton's Aggression Gets It Done

Action folded to Danny Tang in the cutoff, and he raised to 7,000, before Fredric Breton three-bet him to 27,000 on the button. When it folded back to Tang, he made the call.

Both players drew one card.

After the draw, Tang checked to Breton, who bet out 15,000. After eyeing up Breton's remaining 20,000 chips, Tang made the fold, gaving the pot to Brenton.
