With two players seeing a board of 4♥3♣2♣ and about 17,000 in the middle, Joshua Thibodaux bet 5,500 from the big blind and was called by Christian Aven who was in middle position.
Both players then checked the 8♦ turn and A♦ river.
Thibodaux could only show K♦10♦ for a bluff while Aven had J♠J♣ for a pair of jacks to take the pot.
Life Outside Poker is a new podcast for PokerNews hosted by Connor Richards that seeks to pull back the curtain on poker players and allow viewers and listeners to get to know them on a personal level.
In the eighth episode, Connor speaks with legendary UFC ring announcer Bruce Buffer in an exclusive in-depth interview after Buffer's deep run in the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) $50,000 High Roller. Buffer, a longtime poker player, finished in eighth place for a career-best $212,423 after kicking off Day 3 with his trademark "it's time" introduction.
Buffer talked about finding his long-lost half-brother, Michael Buffer, and becoming his manager, the early days of the UFC, the similarities between poker and martial arts, his relationships with Joe Rogan and Dana White, playing poker with Tobey Maguire and Leonardo DiCaprio and the time he injured himself in a poker tournament before announcing the biggest UFC fight in history.
A sizable pot was developing on the flop of 9♠6♥Q♣, in a hand between the player in the small blind, Rick Stone in the big blind and the player on the button.
The small blind was all in for about 12,000 and got called by both Stone and the button. On the 5♥ turn, Stone moved all in to isolate, and the big blind folded.
Small Blind: K♠Q♥
Rick Stone: A♠Q♠
The river brought the 6♠, and Stone's two pair, queens and sixes with an ace kicker, sent his opponent to the rail.
A player on the button opened to 2,500 and was called by a player in the small blind and Ted Tronson in the big blind.
The flop came 8♠7♦5♥. The small blind checked, Tronson bet 6,000, the button called and the small blind folded.
Both remaining players then checked the 10♣ turn and 5♣ river. The button had 7♥6♣ for a pair of sevens and missed straight draw but Tronson had 9♣8♣ for a pair of eights to take the pot.
Loren Harris opened the action with a raise to 1,600 from under the gun. The hijack player three-bet to 5,500 before Harris moved all in for the hijack's remaining 20,200. The hijack called and was in good shape to double heading to a full board.
Hijack: Q♥Q♦
Loren Harris: A♥7♥
The dealer put out K♦10♣4♥9♦A♠ and Harris found his ace on the river to eliminate his opponent and chip up.
Israel Pantaleon raised to 1,800 from under the gun and Edward Allen three-bet to 4,600 from early position. Pantaleon made the call.
The flop came A♦10♥Q♠, and Pantaleon check-called a bet of 6,000 from Allen. The turn 7♥ went check-check.
On the K♣ river, Pantaleon bet enough to put Allen all in, who had 10,200 behind. After some contemplating, Allen made the call and showed A♣5♣. Pantaleon tabled A♥5♥, resulting in a chop pot.
Uri Gilboa opened the action with a raise to 1,600 from under the gun. The hijack player moved all in for 5,300 and the button player called. Gilboa called to close preflop action and players headed to a flop with the hijack all in and at risk.
Action checked through on 10♣2♠A♥ before Gilboa fired 2,500 on the K♠ turn. The button player folded.
Hijack: A♦8♦
Uri Gilboa: K♣10♠
The river 3♥ hit the felt and the hijack was eliminated while Gilboa scooped in a nice pot.
