Kornuth Doubles Against Ponakovs

Aleksejs Ponakovs raised all in from the button and Chance Kornuth found a hand to call after Jeremy Ausmus folded the small blind. Kornuth was the player at risk, however, having the smallest stack of the two.

The board ran out Q♠J♥8♠4♦7♣ and Kornuth doubled up while Ponakovs was left with under three big blinds.

Blom Limps From The Small Blind

Viktor Blom sat in the small blind and was first to act after a couple of folds. He limped holding 10♠2♠ and Chris Hunichen tapped the table with J♣4♣ in the hole to see a flop.

The flop fell J♠9♠8♣ giving Blom a ton of outs against the top pair of Hunichen. A quick 300,000 bet from Blom followed and Hunichen called.

The turn was the 6♦ and Blom didn't improve. Blom continued again with a bet of 1,200,000 and Hunichen called yet again with top pair.

The river was the 8♥ and both players checked as Blom failed to improve and Hunichen dragged in the pot.

Kornuth Staying Alive

Chance Kornuth raised to 1,800,000 from under the gun with K♦8♦ and Aleksejs Ponakovs called from the big blind holding J♠10♠.

Kornuth had 550,000 behind when the 5♥2♦K♠ flop was dealt and he flopped top pair, leaving Ponakovs with just 9% to win the hand. Both players checked, and Ponakovs led after the 7♥ turn with a bet putting Kornuth effectively all in and Ponakovs got his money in the middle with no equity after a quick call by Kornuth.

The river was an insignificant Q♣ and Kornuth doubled up, leaving Ponakovs behind with the shortest stack now with just under 13 big blinds.

Justin Saliba Eliminated in 6th Place ($512,465)

Jeremy Ausmus raised from the hijack and it folded to Justin Saliba, the short stack at this final table, and he called for the remainder of his stack which was 1,275,000.

Jeremy Ausmus: A♦Q♥

The flop was 2♦Q♠A♠ giving two pair to Ausmus, but leaving four outs towards the Broadway straight. The turn was the K♦ to award Saliba with some more outs, but the 4♣ on the river ended the tournament for Saliba.

Saliba had some hopes for a pay jump after the first hand of the day, but he has to settle for sixth place and $512,465.

Hunichen Applies Pressure And Shows Bluff

Jeremy Ausmus raised from the cutoff with Q♠J♦ to 750,000 and Chris Hunichen found 8♣7♠ in the big blind. Hunichen asked how much Ausmus had to start the hand with and called after he got the answer.

The flop was dealt J♥9♣6♦ to give both players a piece. Hunichen checked to Ausmus who continued with a bet constructed of a single 1,000,000 chip. Hunichen raised with three of chips of the orange variety to bump it up to 3,000,000. Ausmus called.

With almost 8,000,000 in the middle, the 3♦ turn didn't change the board structure too much. Hunichen announced "all in" for effectively 8,750,000 as he covered Ausmus by 4,400,000.

Ausmus took his time but opted to fold and Hunichen slammed his cards on the table, showing the bluff to his opponent.

On the first hand of the final table, it folded to Jeremy Ausmus in the small blind and he pushed all in for 6,100,000. Chance Kornuth wanted a count from the big blind and called for the majority of his stack.

Chance Kornuth: 7♥7♦

Ausmus pulled ahead when the 2♦J♣A♣ flop was dealt and the 5♠ on the turn didn't change anything, despite Aumus improving to two pair.

The river was the 6♣ and Ausmus doubled on the first hand of the day.
