Masashi Oya opened on the button and Yulian Bogdanov defended in the big blind.
Bogdanov checked following the 4♣3♣7♠ flop then called after Oya continued for 5,000.
Both players checked through the 9♦ turn to the 8♥ river where Bogdanov tossed out a bet of 5,500. Oya thought for some time before choosing to raise to 24,000. Bogdanov released his holding to send an early pot Oya's way.
With a completed board of 10♦7♠5♦4♥8♣ on the felt already, Gabriel Shohet dropped a bet of 25,000 across the line into the pot of about 75,000. Aliaksei Boika went in the tank for some time before deciding to make the call.
Shohet rolled over 10♠6♦ for a rivered straight and Boika mucked his hand.
Welcome back to PokerNews, the official media partner of the 2024 World Series of Poker and home of live updates from all bracelet events.
Today, we have one of the series's priciest events kicking off. Event #39: $50,000 High Roller No-Limit Hold'em (8-Handed) is starting soon here at Horseshoe and Paris, Las Vegas. Shuffle up and deal for this three-day event is at 12 p.m. Vegas time.
Starting stacks are 300,000 and players get up to one reentry until late registration ends after Level 10 (early on Day 2). Day 1 will last for eight blind levels of 60 minutes each. Players will get a 15-minute break every two levels, with no dinner break scheduled for Day 1. Day 2 will then see remaining players return at 12 p.m. on June 15.
With such a prestigious event, the hope is that this year's edition can beat the field of 124 entries and a prize pool of $5,921,000 from last year. The winner of that event was the German poker pro Leon Sturm who beat Bill Klein heads up to claim his first bracelet and the $1,546,024 top prize.
“It does feel amazing," Sturm told PokerNews in a winner's interview. "The bracelet is something special; it means more than just a trophy, I guess. Before, I was thinking that trophies and bracelets don’t mean much to me. But I think a bracelet is special, so that’s pretty cool. The competition was really tough, so that makes it better.”
