After just under 12 hours of play in Event #85: $1,500 SHOOTOUT No-Limit Hold'em at the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP) at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas, just 100 players remain.
The day kicked off with all players working towards a shot at their portion of the $1,317,645 prizepool. The only path to Day 2 and a min-cash was to be the last man or woman standing from their respective tables. The day started with 987 hopefuls but by the time the dust settled only an even 100 players won their table and advanced to Day 2.
Every player that has advanced to Day 2 has already locked up $5,759 and will compete to win their next shootout to advance to the final table on Day 3 where the minimum payout for the final 10 will be $19,003. The last man standing on Day 3 will be awarded the top prize of $237,367 and of course the coveted WSOP gold bracelet.
Many players came and went but some notable faces won their table and advanced to Day 2. Long time crusher and coach Faraz Jaka won his seat late on Day 1. Brazilian mixed-game specialist Yuri Dzivielevski steam rolled his table on his way to a win. Bracelet winner Frank Funaro was close to being the first winner of the day but had a rollercoaster-ride of a heads-up match that finally landed his way after a few ups and downs.
The first player to win their seat was Canadian Pro Joshua Frazer James who took down his seat just five and half hours into the day. Jared Passanante would be the last player to bag up a win right around 10 p.m. local time.
The field also saw admitted cheater Ali Imsirovic who made his 2023 WSOP debut in Event #85: $1,500 SHOOTOUT No-Limit Hold'em. Imsirovic made quick work of his table and bagged early on Day 1. All eyes will undoubtably be on him as he tries to win another seat at the final table.
Day 2 will take place at 10 a.m in the Horseshoe. and will be played until all tables are down to just one player. There will be 20-minute breaks after every three levels and a 60-min optional break after level 9.

Nyman had the dominated hand with KxQx, against Ax10x for Tran, and couldn't find any help on a board jack high to be eliminated from the tournament.
A few seconds later two tables next to them, Arin Youssefian was all in preflop for a remaining stack around 80,000 against Jason Rich who had made the call with the higher stack.
