Both in the poker world and in numerous cultures, the number seven is considered lucky. For one player at the 2023 World Series of Poker, a seven's luck can also bring in loads of cash and a coveted WSOP bracelet. Today marks Day 1a of Event #77: $777 Lucky 7's No-Limit Hold'em at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas.

Everything about this event is based around the number seven. In addition to only sevens in the event number and buy-in amount (and the date, as Day 1a takes place on 7/7) play will be conducted seven-handed. On top of that, the winner of this event is guaranteed $777,777. Players surviving today will advance to Day 2 on Monday, July 10th and find themselves one step closer to the all-sevens jackpot. They will be joined there by survivors from Saturday's Day 1b and Sunday's 1c.

Last year's event saw 6,903 entrants create a total prize pool of $3,517,898. Gregory Teboul came out on top, defeating Rodney Turvin in heads-up play to pocket $777,777 and a WSOP gold bracelet. Teboul and Turvin were joined at the final table by Allen Cunningham, who finished seventh.

The action kicks off at 10 a.m. local time. Players begin with 40,000 chips and will play 22 30-minute levels, with blinds starting at 100-200 with a 200 big blind ante. Players will receive a 20-minute break after every four levels, with a 75-minute dinner break scheduled for the end of Level 16. For the first time at the 2023 WSOP, players will have unlimited reentries. Late registration closes at the end of Level 12, approximately 5 p.m.

Stay tuned to PokerNews as we find out who can harness the power of the lucky sevens and take home a WSOP bracelet!
