With nine levels of play concluded (ten levels of play were initially scheduled but were reduced to nine after the start time was pushed back due to the Colossus), we can confirm a total of 377 players entered World Series of Poker Event #: 73 $2,500 Mixed Big Bet at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas, smashing last year’s record of 281 by nearly 100 players.

The field is led by Erick Lindgren with 350,000, who shared a laugh with fellow bracelet winner, Yueqi Zhu, on their similar starting hand selection. Many other notable names will carry healthy stacks into Day 2, as well, including, Dimitrios Michailidis (330,200), Julio Belluscio (328,800) and three-time bracelet winner, Chad Eveslage (301,300), all crossing the 300,000 chip mark and rounding out the top four.

Ren Lin (255,000), Richard Bai (218,000), and Maximilian Schindler (203,800) are not far behind, either, each bagging more than 200,000 in chips.

With players able to re-enter up to two times, the record field of 377 entries created a total prize pool of $836,600, with 57 players earning at least $4,021, and $190,240 and the coveted gold bracelet going to the eventual champ.

As expected, action was fast and aggressive in the big bet games, as demonstrated in this hand by Josh Arieh, and this one that sent him back to the registration cage for the first time.

Craig Chait was an early elimination, as was Poker Hall of Famer, Daniel Negreanu.

The remaining 146 survivors will return on Sunday, July 2nd at 2 p.m., positioning themselves to take home the much desired gold bracelet.

Rheem Gives Action

Maximilian Schindler raised to 2,600 from the button. The small blind reraised to 8,600. From the big blind Chino Rheem asked the small blind if he wanted action. "Sure, reraise me all in!" said the big blind.

"No, no, let's relax now," said Rheem and called. Schindler called behind. The big blind then went all in in the dark. The flop came 876 and Rheem and Schindler called the all in.

When the turn came 8 Rheem bet 8,000 and Schindler folded. Rheem turned over A852 for trip eights. The big blind showed AA103 for cracked aces, and the 6 river did not save him. As he headed toward the exit, Rheem told Schindler, "I had the nut low, too!"

"That's what I get for only playing the high like a moron," replied Schindler.

Miholich Eliminates Arieh

Pot-Limit Omaha

In a hand relayed to PokerNews by Kyle Miholich, a player raised from early position and Josh Arieh called on the button, as did Miholich from the big blind.

Action checked around to Arieh on the 102J flop and he put out a bet of 3,000, which was called by Miholich. The original raiser folded.

Now heads-up with Arieh, Miholich checked the 7 turn and Arieh continued putting on the pressure with a bet of 11,000, which Miholich once again called.

The river J paired the board and Miholich checked a third time to Arieh, this time with Arieh announcing, "pot," and Miholich snap-calling.

Kyle Miholich: A4Q5

Miholich flopped an ace-high flush and as soon as he called, Arieh commented, "You're good," and fired his hand into the muck.

However, after the stacks were counted down, Arieh had exactly a pot-sized bet of 36,600 left and was eliminated from the tournament.

All the Big Bets Under One Tent - Event #73: $2,500 Mixed Big Bet Comes to Town

Lok Chan

The big bets will be flying when Event #73: $2,500 Mixed Big Bet, comes to town Saturday, July 1st 4:00 p.m. at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas . A full menu of no-limit and pot-limit varietals will lure a field of the biggest names in big-bet games, and will require a Swiss Army knife of skills to triumph.

Players will navigate a rotation of big bet flop or draw games Big O, No-Limit Hold’em, No-Limit 2-7 Single Draw, Pot-Limit Omaha 8 or Better, No-Limit Five Card Draw High, Pot-Limit Omaha, and Pot-Limit 2-7 Triple Draw, over three days of action.

Last year’s event was won by 22-year-old Lok Chan. He battled through a record field of 281 to capture his first WSOP bracelet and the top prize of $144,338.

“When I turned 17 or 18, I would go to Taiwan and play live tournaments and I would play cash online,” Chan said after the event. “This is my first time coming to Las Vegas for the WSOP. I was lucky enough to stay alive and have a chance to get a bracelet.”

With four cashes already in 2023, Chan should be in great form to defend his title. In addition to Chan, last year's field boasted bracelet winners Rami Boukai, Galen Hall, Patrick Leonard, Renan Bruschi, Richard Ashby, Scott Bohlman, Keith Lehr, Michael Savakinas, and Naoya Kihara all finishing in the top 20, so whoever hoists the bracelet will have survived a top-level gauntlet of big-bet masters.
