"Barstool Nate" Shares His Wild Adventure Getting to the 2023 WSOP One Month Late

Eric "Barstool Nate" Nathan had quite the adventure — injury, lost ID, the whole nine yards — getting to Las Vegas for the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP). PokerNews caught up with the Barstool Sports personality to hear his story of why he's just now arriving at the WSOP.

The co-host of the Cracking Aces poker podcast is competing in Event #65: $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em, his first bracelet event of the summer. Originally, the sports blogger and long-time poker player intended to grind a lengthy WSOP schedule, starting early in the series. So, why's he just now making his way to Sin City to play some cards?

Mercier's Pat Ten-Nine Good Enough to Double

John Holley raised to 105,000 from middle position and Jason Mercier reraised all in for 250,000. Holley tossed in the calling chips and drew one, while Mercier stood pat.

Mercier tabled 10x9x6x4x2x while Holley turned over the monster 5x4x3x2x draw. Any seven, eight, nine, or ten would have ended Mercier's run to the final table, but instead he was saved by a paired deuce.

Ryan Moriarty Eliminated in 13th Place ($7,574)

Jonathan Glendinning opened to 85,000 from middle position only to see Ryan Moriarty move all in for 540,000 out of the big blind. After some thought, Glendinning made the call with the larger stack to put Moriarty at risk.

Moriarty took one while Glendinning stood pat before showing down 10x9x4x3x2x. Moriarty had 7x6x4x3x but could not find the required two, eight, nine or ten, instead peeling the 6x to bring his impressive run to an end in 13th place. While he may have come up short, Moriarty has certainly impressed in draw tournaments at the series, adding to his second place finish in Event #52: $2,500 Mixed Triple Draw.

Seidel Sizes Up in Battle of the Blinds

From the small blind Erik Seidel raised to 160,000, almost 100,000 more than the usual raise at this level, but Mike Watson was not deterred and called from the big.

Seidel took one card, and Watson two. Seidel then continued for 225,000. Watson tanked for two minutes a call here would commit nearly half his remaining stack.

Eventually he cut out the 225,000 and Seidel showed 10x9x7x6x2x, and Watson mucked.

Kell Bets Big

Alexander Kell opened to 65,000 from under the gun and then called after Jonathan Glendinning three-bet to 190,000 from early position.

Kell took one while Glendinning stood pat after which Kell pushed a hefty bet of 305,000 into the middle. That sent Glendinning deep into the tank but he emerged having decided on a fold to send the pot to Kell.
