After a fairly short seven hours and a little over six levels of play on Day 3 of Event #60: $1,500 No-Limit 2-7 Single Draw at the 2023 World Series of Poker at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas just five players remain from a starting field of 548.

Leading those five is non other than four time bracelet winner Brad Ruben after he enjoyed a late surge at the final table. Poker Hall of Famer Erik Seidel sits second in chips with 3,065,000 while Jason Mercier rounds out the top three on 2,565,000. With such formidable opponents to contend with, while Ruben may have the chiplead for now, victory along with the $151,276 top prize and WSOP gold bracelet is far from assured. The fourth and final day will be sure to provide an epic, cannot miss showdown between several titans of the game, both from the old and new schools of poker.

Coming into the day, the plan had been to whittle down the remaining 24 players to a single winner. That plan went out the window, however, after a star-studded group of players managed to make it to the final table, prompting PokerGO to step in to stream the remainder of the tournament on its YouTube channel. As a result, play concluded once five players were left.

Many notables took their seat on Day 3, hoping to add either their first or another WSOP bracelet to their already impressive poker resumés. Those to enjoy a deep run but fall short of that mark include poker commentator Maria Ho (18th-$6,108), recent winner of Event #40: $250,000 Super High Roller Chris Brewer ($6,108) and Day 1 chip leader Michael Trivett (14th-$7,574).

Play continued at a fairly regular pace throughout the day, with the official final table of seven set after around six hours when John Holley fell in eighth place, unable to outdraw the eight-six of Mercier.

Final Table Action

Jonathan Glendinning became the first casualty of the final table after running right into the pat nine-eight of Seidel.

Next to go was Richard Ashby, knocked out by Ruben after his pat ten fell to his opponent's drawn eight-seven. With his elimination, the field was down to five, and play for the day ended.

The remaining players will return June 29th at 12 p.m. local time, at which point play will (genuinely) continue until a winner is crowned. Be sure to stay tuned to PokerNews as its live reporting team wraps up coverage of Event #60: $1,500 No-Limit 2-7 Singe Draw.

Richard Ashby Eliminated in 6th Place ($22,461)

Richard Ashby

Richard Ashby moved all in for his last 750,000 from under the gun and was called by Jason Mercier in the cutoff as well as Brad Ruben on the button.

Both Ashby and Mercier stood pat while Ruben chose to take one. Mercier then checked before calling a bet of 100,000 from Ruben. Ashby tabled 10x6x5x4x3x but came up short against the 8x7x6x5x3x of Ruben with Mercier tossing his hand away. With the elimination of Ashby in 6th place, the final five has been set and play for the day has drawn to a close. Stay tuned for a full recap of the day to follow shortly.

Break Time

The players have opted to forgo the dinner break and take a 15-minute break instead as they play down to five to end the day.

Short Stacks Ashby and Turner Do Battle

Nível 26 : Blinds 30,000/60,000, 90,000 ante

Richard Ashby raised to 130,000 from the button and Jon Turner called from the big blind.

Turner drew one, and Ashby stood pat. Turner then led out for 200,000, about a quarter of Ashby's remaining stack.

Turner entered the tank to consider his options, folding, calling, or raising all in. He puckered, he counted out a call in green 25,000 chips, and again in lavender 100,000 ones. He considered the rest of his stack, he leaned against the table rail in frustration, all the while Turner sat stone still, so concentrated on giving nothing away that a vein popped up on his forehead.

Ashby threw in the calling chips, and Turner exposed a nine-eight, and Ashby mucked.

Erik Seidel opened to 125,000 from early position before Jonathan Glendinning three-bet to 900,000 in middle position, leaving himself a little over 100,000 behind. Action folded back around to Seidel and he made the call.

Seidel stood pat while Glendinning chose to take one after which Seidel bet enough to force his opponent all in. Glendinning called off for his tournament life but could not best the 9x8x7x4x3x of Seidel to bring his deep run to an end in 7th place.

John Holley

Jason Mercier raised 125,000 from under the gun. John Holley moved all in from the big blind for 225,000 more.

Holley asked for one, and Mercier elected to pat. When the cards were turned over Holley was very much alive with a 7x6x3x2x to Mercier's 8x6x5x4x2x.

Holley received his card and then spun it on top of his hand, it was a jack, and he had busted. With nine WSOP Circuit rings, 126 WSOP cashes for $1,308,260, Holley hoped this tournament might be the one where he earned that elusive first bracelet. With a very deep run he made an admirable run at that goal.

Mercier Gets Paid

Nível 26 : Blinds 30,000/60,000, 90,000 ante

Jason Mercier opened to 120,000 from the cutoff and then called after Erik Seidel three-bet to 375,000 out of the big blind.

Seidel stood pat while Mercier chose to take one. Action then checked to Mercier and he pushed a hefty 515,000 into the middle. That did not appear to sit too well with Seidel but he did make the call, mucking after Mercier tabled 8x6x5x4x2x to take a big hit to his stack.
