Event #37: $2,000 No-Limit Hold'em Kicks Off at 10 AM

Welcome to Day 1 of Event #37: $2,000 No-Limit Hold'em here at the 2023 World Series of Poker at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas. This three-day event will be sure to attract some of the biggest and best players in the world.

Last year it was Bulgaria’s Simeon Spasov who took down the coveted bracelet, defeating a field of 1,977 runners which generated a prize pool of $3,519,060 and him taking home $527,944 for first place. Spasov, who is no stranger to these types of fields with over $1.6 million in earnings, will look to defend his title and add to his lengthy poker resume.

A total of fifteen 40-minute levels will be played on Day 1, with a 20-minute break every three levels. The blinds will start at 100/100 with a 100 big blind ante. The starting stack is 30,000 chips and players will be able to reenter once if needed.

The dinner break will be 75 minutes and is after Level 9, which will be at about 7:00 p.m. local time.

Late registration is open through the dinner break, until the start of Level 13, around 8:15 p.m. local time. Players who make it to the end of day will bag for Day 2, scheduled on Friday, June 16th at 10 a.m.

Iermolcheva Means Business

Olga Iermolcheva raised in early position to 800 and the big blind called.

The flop came out 5♥7♥7♦ and the big blind made a bet of 600 and Iermolcheva raised to 1,200. Iermocheva called.

The big blind slowed down on the turn when the 2♥ appeared but Iermolcheva bet 1,500 and the big blind called.

The 5♦ was the card on the river and both players checked.

The big blind tabled 4♣8♠ and Iermolcheva showed 9♥10♥ for the flush and jokingly said, "I have ten high."

Buckner Takes Three-Bet Pot

A player in early position opened the action to 600 and the player next to act called. It folded to the button who made the call and Steven Buckner put in a three-bet to 2,100 from the small blind. All three opponents came along and the flop fanned out K♣9♦4♥.

All four players checked their options to the 8♥ turn. Buckner announced a bet of 2,500, all three of his opponents let their cards go, and the pot was shipped to the New Yorker.

Jun Obara was in the big blind when the player in the small blind raised and Obara reraised. The small blind called and the flop was 4♥3♥Q♦.

The small blind checked and Obara bet 15,000 and the small blind slammed his stack in the middle for about 23,000. Obara called without hesitation and the small blind called for a five when the turn brought the 6♦

The river dropped the 7♥ and the small blind said, "good game," as Obara hit the flush.

Mchugh Picks Up Three-Bet Pot

A player in middle position opened the action to 1,400 and it folded around to Colin Mchugh in the small blind who three-bet to 4,300. The big blind got out of the way and only the initial raiser made the call.

The flop fanned out Q♠7♦3♣ and Mchugh continued for 3,000, which his opponent called. On the 9♦ turn Mchugh kept up the aggression with a bet of 5,000, and took down the pot when his opponent sent their cards into the muck.

Reis Hits Flush to Chip Up

Action began after the flop of 4♦9♦Q♥ when Rafael Reis led out for 4,200. His opponent jammed all in for 21,000 with Reis taking little time to call.

"Crazy Italian Guy"

Aliaksandr Shylko was in middle position when he called an early position player's raise to 1,200 and a late position player, "Crazy Italian guy" according to the players at the table, squeezed for 3,500. The early position player folded and Shylko called.

The flop came Q♥Q♣8♦ and both players checked.

The turn is where all the crazy happened when the 6♦ hit the board and Shylko checked and the "Crazy Italian guy" put all of his chips in for about 9,000 and Shylko went into the think tank for a minute and then called.

Rheem Takes Blind on Blind Pot

The action folded around to the small blind who limped in and Chino Rheem checked his option from the big blind.

The flop came A♥K♣5♣ and the small blind check-called a bet of 800 from Rheem. On the 3♥ turn both players checked and the 6♣ hit the river.

The small blind tossed out a bet of 2,000 and Rheem quickly called. His opponent tabled A♠4♥ for a pair of aces but was no good against the K♠6♦ two pair for Rheem to take down the pot.

Cheong Goes Big On River Against Lampropulos

Joseph Cheong opened to 3,000 from middle position and it folded around to Maria Lampropulos in the big blind who made the call.

The flop came K♣9♣4♣ and Lampropulos check-called a bet of 2,000 from Cheong. On the 6♣ turn both players checked their options to the A♠ river.

Lampropulos checked a third time and Cheong tossed out a big bet of 15,000. Lampropulos double-checked her cards, but eventually let them go and the pot was sent to Cheong without showdown.

Kings, Queens, Aces, Kings, Oh My

It was a really good time to wake up with aces when the action was raised in early position, three-bet in middle position, Ta-wei Tou four-bet on the button and the small blind five-bet and pushed all of their chips in the middle. All of the initial raisers pushed their chips into the pot and the race was four ways.
