On the latest The Chad & Jesse Poker Show straight from the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP),Chad Holloway and Jesse Fullen are joined by Poker Hall of Famer Jack McClelland, who served as the Tournament Director of the WSOP from 1984-98.
He was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame in 2014 alongside Daniel Negreanu, and he talks about that honor as well as memories of Stu Ungar and Doyle Brunson, and what it was like to work for the legendary Benny Binion.
Samuel Bifarella was in middle position and raised for almost all of his chips about 200,000 and left 20,000 behind, The small blind, Clyde Maliauka called and was just about to overturn his cards when the rest of the table stopped him. Maliauka did not realize that Bifarella had some chips behind.
The flop came 7♣A♠9♦ and Bifarella checked and Maliauka bet enough to put Bifarella all in. As soon as the action happened one of the players called clock on Bifarella as he said that he would be stalling for the pay jump. The dealer informed him that he could not call the clock on someone immediately before some time had passed. Bifarella took a minute to think and then put his remaining chips in the pot.
Samuel Bifarella: Q♠10♥
Clyde Maliauka: K♣K♥
The turn was the Q♥ and the river was the 5♣ which knocked Bifarella out and increased Maliauka's chip stack.
Upeshka De Silva raised 55,000 from the button, leaving one red 5,000 chip behind. Small blind Nick Palma and big blind Brandon Hamlet both called.
The flop rolled off 5♠6♣J♦ and Hamlet bet 35,000, De Silva called with his last 5,000, and Palma called.
Hamlet continued for 45,000 on a 2♠ turn and Palma peeled off, leaving De Silva alone with Hamlet. De Silva showed ace-king, but Hamlet had jack seven for a pair of jacks, and the 4♦ river sent De Silva home.
Matthew Hunt has been playing with much patience these two days of battle, even making quads against Chino Rheem earlier in the day.
Mustapha Kanit had opened it up with a raise and Hunt went all in against the shorter stack of Kanit.
Kanit wasted no time with making the call, leaving his charcuterie plate to wait.
Mustapha Kanit: A♣K♦
Matthew Hunt: J♥J♦
The wheel spun and a board ran 8♥4♦5♦9♦3♣, in favor of Hunt and one of the field's most accomplished players hit the rail.

Shortly after this hand, he put a different opponent to a decision for all their chips on a king-high board and, according to the opponent, they folded queens.
The pot was about 125,000 after the flop of K♠7♠8♠ and Divyam Satyarthi who sat in early position bet 55,000 after Upeshka De Silva in the big blind had checked. De Silva reraised to 127,000 and Satyarthi called.
The turn brought the K♥ and De Silva checked again and Satyarthi bet 250,000 and was called.
The river card 4♦ checked through and De Silva mucked after Satyarthi tabled A♣K♣ for trips.
Phil Galfond has yet to make an appearance at the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP), and as he told PokerNews, right now he has no plans to play live.
“But who knows, plans change,” added Galfond, who has been playing online at WSOP.com.
While Galfond hasn’t been at the WSOP – well, at least Phil as his wife, Farah Galfond, has been competing – the three-time bracelet winner is still weighing in by his relatively new newsletter “PG’s Takes of the Week.”
One of the topics the online poker legend, who prior to the WSOP inserted himself in some drama involving Doug Polk and Charlie Carrel with a pointed letter, was that of the Poker Hall of Fame. Right now, the public is being solicited for nomination.
“The nominations for the Poker Hall of Fame are now open, presenting voters with a familiar dilemma: there are simply too many great options to choose from,” Galfond wrote before giving his picks.
