The 2023 World Series of Poker at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas is one step closer to crowning a winner, as Event #25: $10,000 Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship is down to the final seven players after as many 90-minute long levels on Day 3. Out of 212 total entries, five bracelet winners remain in contention for a repeat victory with the biggest portion of the $1,971,600 prize pool still up for grabs.

After a topsy-turvy day filled with numerous split pots, three quarters, scoops, four of a kind and even straight flushes, it was Ben Lamb who emerged as the chip leader with 2,545,000.

He is closely followed by Luis Velador (2,390,000) and Poker Hall of Fame member Erik Seidel (2,360,000) whereas Brad Ruben is only three big bets behind with 2,005,000 in chips. Seidel has nine WSOP gold bracelets to his name already and could become only the fifth player to win at least ten, potentially drawing even with the great Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan, and Phil Ivey.

Robert Yass sits in the middle of the pack and the two short stacks Johannes Becker and James Chen are just one scoop away from potentially taking over the lead.

Initially, the penultimate tournament day was scheduled to play down to the final five contenders but given the record field size and deep structure, that target was missed. The remaining seven hopefuls will return to their seats in the Horseshoe Event Center on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at 2 p.m. local time for the conclusion of the event,

Recommencing blinds in level 25 will be 50,000-100,000 with limits of 100,000-200,000. After the first scheduled break on Day 4, all those with chips at their disposal will then be moved over to the main stage for the broadcast on the PokerGO streaming platform.

Day 3 got back underway with 21 players and the final two tables were reached rather swiftly with big names such as Bryce Yockey and Damjan Radanov hitting the rail. Sam Farha was sent to the payout desk soon after when his turned two pair were no good against the flopped top set of Seidel.

Start-of-the-day chip leader Jay Kerbel experienced a torrid spell at the tables and had to settle for 15th place whereas John Hennigan and David Williams also bowed out before the unofficial nine-handed final table was set.

Nearly three full levels were played and the lead changed several times but only two further contenders were eliminated. Jason Daly led the final nine players when the field combined to a single table yet the ups and downs of the split pot variant including a remarkable chop with a straight flush saw him succumb in ninth place.

James Obst became the final casualty of the night after his stack had been whittled down to one full bet and the Aussie waved goodbye with the prospect of jumping into the $10,000 Razz Championship.

The final seven players are set to return at 2 p.m. local time and the PokerNews live reporting team will be back then to provide all of the action until a winner has been crowned.

Nível 24 : Limits 80,000/160,000, 0 ante

The final seven players have completed level 24 and bag their chips for the night. They will resume at 2 p.m. local time to determine a champion with a stream on the PokerGO platform to boot.

Chip counts and a recap of today's action are to follow.

Ben Lamb raised and James Obst called all-in out of the big blind for the 170,000 he had left behind. Brad Ruben called out of the big blind and they headed to the K108 flop. Ruben check-called a bet by Lamb and they checked the 4 turn.

After the 7 river, Ruben check-folded and the cards were turned over.

James Obst: KQ87
Ben Lamb: AAJ9

Obst had been ahead on the flop with two pair but the straight of Lamb sent the Aussie to the payout desk in 8th place for $48,300.

"At least I get to play the Razz," he joked, referring to the next Championship Event the following day.

Becker Double Leaves Obst on Fumes

Nível 24 : Limits 80,000/160,000, 0 ante

James Obst raised for the second hand in a row, this time from under the gun. Johannes Becker in the small blind three-bet and Obst called as the two table short stacks headed to the 1098 flop. Becker checked and Obst bet, sending his opponent into agony for half a minute.

As Becker mulled it over, he eventually got the short stack in and the cards were flipped over. "I have the worst possible hand," Obst declared with a dry smile on the face while doing so.

Johannes Becker: AKJ5
James Obst: AQ74

Obst had Becker barely covered by one bet and saw his stack reduced to fumes on the A turn and A river runout.

One hand later, Becker raised on the button and Obst called all-in from the big blind.

James Obst: 10953
Johannes Becker: JJ87

The K84QA board gave both players a flush and Becker took the high, Obst the low.

Velador Gets River Value From Yass

Nível 24 : Limits 80,000/160,000, 0 ante

Luis Velador raised in the cutoff and Robert Yass announced a reraise on the button. While Velador was fumbling to put in the correct amount, Ben Lamb pointed out that Yass' raising chips were incorrect, too, as he had only put in 160,000 but verbally declared the three-bet.

"You still wanna raise?" Velador asked with a big grin on the face moments before both players put in the required 240,000. They checked all the way to the K77K4 river on which Velador bet and Yass reluctantly paid it off. Velador tabled the A663 for the ace-high flush and that won the pot.

Becker Chops to Stave Off Elimination

Nível 24 : Limits 80,000/160,000, 0 ante
Johannes Becker
Johannes Becker

Johannes Becker raised from late position and was called by Erik Seidel on the button and Luis Velador in the big blind.

The dealer rolled out the 7J5 flop and both Seidel and Velador called a bet from Becker.

The pot began to grow on the 6 turn, when Becker put out another bet when checked to by Velador, but it was Seidel who would raise. Both players called.

The Q hit the river and both Velador and Becker checked to Seidel, who bet. Velador called and Becker committed his remaining chips, which happened to be less than a full bet, creating a small side pot between Seidel and Velador.

Johannes Becker: AJ102
Erik Seidel: A983
Luis Velador: AK92

Seidel would win the high with a nine-high straight and Becker and Velador would chop the low with the same seventy-six.

Becker Chops With Obst; Lamb Scoops Them Both

Nível 24 : Limits 80,000/160,000, 0 ante
Ben Lamb
Ben Lamb

Johannes Becker raised on the button, and James Obst called out of the big blind. Obst opted to check-raise the 732 flop, and Becker came along to the 6 turn on which Obst bet and Becker called.

Obst also bet the J river for what was essentially his all-in, and Becker looked him up. Obst showed the 9854 for a straight and Becker took the low with the A864.

Ben Lamb then raised and earned calls from Becker in the cutoff as well as Obst in the small blind. Three ways to the J92 flop, Obst checked, and Lamb bet to earn two calls thereafter.

The 5 turn was checked by Obst and Lamb checked his stack carefully before he checked, too, as did Becker. There was no betting action on the Q river, and Lamb announced queen-deuce for two pair, exposing the AQ82.

"Unfortunate," Becker replied and checked his cards before sending them to the muck. He then mentioned that Lamb only had three outs, and the ace or deuce were no good. Brad Ruben pointed out that a ten would have done also, as Lamb had a gutshot on the flop.

Becker Scoops Lamb to Stay Alive

Nível 24 : Limits 80,000/160,000, 0 ante
Johannes Becker
Johannes Becker

Erik Seidel raised from early position and was called by Ben Lamb on the button and Johannes Becker in the big blind.

The three players took a flop of 58Q and both Becker and Seidel checked over Lamb, who bet. Becker raised all-in, Seidel got out of the way and Lamb called.

Johannes Becker: AJ82
Ben Lamb: A553

Lamb was out front with a set of fives, but the dealer would deliver the ace-high flush for Becker on the turn in the form of the K and hold off on pairing the board for Lamb on the 4 river, giving Becker the much needed double.
