Spitale Doubles Through Foxen with Quads

Nível 4 : Blinds 300/500, 500 ante
Franco Spitale
Franco Spitale

Action was picked up with about 4,000 in the pot and a flop of {9-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{2-Clubs} on the table. Franco Spitale, in the cutoff, put in a raise to 3,100 after Alex Foxen led out. Foxen, in the hijack, then put in a three bet to 5,500, and Spitale called.

On the {5-Clubs} turn, Spitale called a bet of 11,000 from Foxen, leading to the {4-Clubs} river. Foxen announced he was all in and Spitale snap called. Foxen quickly flung his cards towards the muck, and Spitale then pushed his towards the dealer. Since it was an all in, the dealer tabled both of their hands.

Franco Spitale: {2-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}
Alex Foxen: {q-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}

Spitale had flopped quads and gotten maximum value from them, leaving Foxen's stack decimated.

Wilson Sent Into the Blender, Then Sent Away

Nível 4 : Blinds 300/500, 500 ante
Brock Wilson
Brock Wilson

There was big preflop action in progress as Brock Wilson had put two 5,000 chips forward from the big blind for what looked like a three-bet. Mikhail Prokopchuk was in early position and four-bet to 17,400, Wilson thought for a second before calling the four-bet.

The flop came all fives {5-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}. Wilson checked, Prokopchuk made a downsized bet of 15,000, Wilson called.

The turn was the {8-Diamonds}. Wilson checked again and Prokopchuk tossed forward two 25,000 chips to put Wilson all in who had 35,800 behind. Wilson was instantly uncomfortable and rolled his eyes and started shifting in his chair. He shook his head, looking very aggravated. He went into the tank and checked his cards a bunch of times, looking like he was on the verge of folding multiple times.

Wilson asked Prokopchuk if he would show if he folded to which he got no reply. He then told the table they could call the clock if they wanted, which a tablemate did eventually after about five minutes. The clock came over and counted it down, before Wilson called with a few seconds on the clock.

Wilson saw his nightmare as Prokopchuk rolled over the {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} which was pipping the {q-Clubs}{q-Spades} of Wilson.

The river was the {3-Spades} and Wilson was visibly crestfallen by the hand and he got up quickly to speed out of the room. Meanwhile Prokopchuk gathered in the bigtime pot for his stack.

Francois Pirault

In a three-bet pot that swelled up to 38,000 going into the {6-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{7-Spades} flop, the preflop aggressor Ayaka Ishikawa bet 3,500, and Francois Pirault called.

The turn brought the {7-Diamonds} and Ishikawa check-called 7,000 from Pirault.

On the {3-Spades} river, Ishikawa checked again and Pirault eyed his opponent before moving all in for about 25,000.

Ishikawa went into the tank for a couple of minutes, eying the board and her cards before folding.

With that pot, the French Winamax pro moves back over his starting stack late in the later stages of the day.

Everett Carlton
Everett Carlton

In a 15,000-chip pot, Everett Carlton, who has reached four WSOP final tables, put in 3,500 on a {6-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{j-Spades} flop and was called by the big blind.

On the {5-Spades} river, both players tapped the table. The big blind confidently tabled {10-Hearts}{10-Spades} but Carlton turned over {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts} to take down the pot and build on an impressive Day 1B.

Cutler's Quads Cut Down Two Monsters

Nível 4 : Blinds 300/500, 500 ante
Evan Cutler
Evan Cutler

Evan Cutler raised from under the gun to 1,000 with about 12,000 behind. Yin Wu flatted to his left before Terry Shortland bumped it up to 3,500 in middle position.

Back on Cutler, he moved all in for about 13,000. Both We and Shortland made the call.

The flop came out {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}. Cutler watched the action as his tournament life hung in the balance. Wu went all in, having Shortland well covered. Shortland made the call.

Evan Cutler: {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}
Yin Wu: {k-Diamonds}{k-}
Terry Shortland: {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}

Cutler flopped a set, Shortland flopped the nut flush, Wu's slowplayed kings were left drawing very thin, and Cutler needed a board pair to keep his tournament hopes alive.

The turn {q-Hearts} didn't change anything, but the river {10-Spades} changed everything. Cutler made quads to more than triple up and get back to a healthy stack.

Details of the hand were reported by several members at the table after the fact.

Michael Banducci
Michael Banducci

The flop read {j-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{9-Spades} with four players in a hand. Michael Banducci bet 3,500. The button called, the small blind folded and an early position player called also.

Three-way action went to the turn which was the {4-Spades}. Banducci bet 8,000 which was enough to clear the flotsam and jetsam and win himself another pot to move his stack close to the 300,000 mark,

Alex Foxen
Alex Foxen

The field has been sent on a 75-minute dinner break. When they return, blinds will be 300/500 with a 500 big blind ante at which point play will continue for two more levels before the survivors bag for the night.

Action picked up somewhat during Level 3, with a handful of notable bustouts alongside tough calls and some even tougher folds. Andreas Kniep continues to ascend and is one of the first players in the flight to crack the 200,000 mark while elsewhere Alex Foxen is busy building a stack. Below are some of the highlights from the past two hours.

Wendeen Eolis
Wendeen Eolis

Wendeen Eolis is in the field for Day 1b of the Main Event.

She was famously the first woman to ever cash in the Main Event in 1986 when she finished 25th.

You can read a featured article about her here.

Eolis continued to be a pioneer for women in poker in the years after. She has chipped up in the early going here just before dinner.

Foxen Gone

Nível 3 : Blinds 200/400, 400 ante
Kristen Foxen
Kristen Foxen

A player in the cutoff opened to 1,000 and was called by the button as well as Kristen Foxen out of the big blind.

On a flop of {6-Clubs}{7-Spades}{5-Diamonds} Foxen moved all in for her last 2,800. "Please don't let me bust, I would be so sad if I busted," Foxen said to her two opponents. The cutoff did in fact call while the button folded to put Foxen at risk.

Kristen Foxen: {10-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}
Cutoff Player: {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}

Foxen immediately tabled her holding but the cutoff player took his time turning his cards over, much to the frustration of Foxen, who commented "just show your hand, you're gonna have to show it anyway". In any event, Foxen was well behind and was left drawing to just two outs following the {5-Hearts} turn. She found no further help on the {10-Spades} river, sending her to the rail prior to the dinner break.

Margets Turns Quads, Can't Get Paid from Seidel

Nível 3 : Blinds 200/400, 400 ante
Leo Margets
Leo Margets

It folded around to Leo Margets who called from the small blind. Erik Seidel would check his option.

The flop came {6-Spades}{a-Spades}{a-Hearts} and both players tapped the table.

The {a-Diamonds} came on the turn and Margets flicked in a yellow chip worth 1,000. Seidel snap-folded.

Margets would turn over the {a-Clubs} showing she had turned quads and everyone, including Seidel, had a nice laugh.
