Day 1b of the 2022 WSOP Main Event Gets Rolling at 11 a.m. on the Fourth of July

The $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em Main Event World Championship rolls on today with Day 1b at an 11 a.m. start in what is the second of four starting day options for players.

Day 1a attracted around 900 entries and ended with 631 remaining after the five levels of play. The high benchmark for the field was set at 317,800 by Cedrric Trevino who ended Day 1a as the chip leader and Wesley Fei was right behind him at 300,000. Several well-known players were able to advance from Day 1a, including; Andrew Moreno (238,200), Kelly Minkin (204,700) and Ryan Depaulo (188,800).

With today being the fourth of July holiday here in the United States, it will be interesting to see what size and shape the Day 1b field takes; if it is a more international flavored field or if there will be plenty of Americans who use their holiday to battle in the grandest poker tournament in the world.

Each player today will start with 60,000 in tournament chips and each Day 1 will play five 120-minute levels. There will be a 20-minute break after Levels 1, 2, and 4, with a 75-minute dinner break after Level 3.

Players who bag today in Day 1b will return on Thursday, July 7, and combine with players who bagged on Day 1a yesterday, for Day 2 ab. (View the complete structure sheet here.)

Over the next two weeks, the poker world will find out who will win the prestigious bracelet and go into the history books as the first WSOP Main Event champion on the Las Vegas Strip. The final table is scheduled to start on July 15 and July 16 is when a winner will be crowned.

Goone Scores Early Knockout

Nível 1 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante
Marc Goone
Marc Goone

It was just the second hand of the day at Table 674 when Marc Goone and Dennis Brand found themselves playing for all their chips.

Action was picked up with more than 15,000 already in the pot and a flop of {5-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} on the felt. Brand moved all in from the cutoff. Marc Goone took a minute or two to think, and then made the call.

Dennis Brand: {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades}
Marc Goone: {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}

Goone had Brand dominated, and the {8-Spades}{4-Hearts} runout completed the board and secured him the pot. Brand was knocked out, visibly frustrated, and Goone began stacking chips.

"I thought it was the other way around," a player from across the table commented. "I thought you were gonna have to lay down kings. Or you both had aces, the way that was playing,"

"I would have laid down kings," Goone responded.

Romero Rivers Royal Flush in Second Hand of the Day

Nível 1 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante
Alex Romero
Alex Romero

Michael Monicatti limped from under the gun and Alex Romero raised to 900 from the small blind. Monicatti called.

The flop came {j-Spades}{k-Clubs}{10-Clubs} and Romero continued for 700. Monicatti called. The turn brought the {a-Diamonds} and Romero checked over to Monicatti, who bet 1,400. Romero called.

The river was the {j-Clubs}. Romero checked and was unfortunate to get a check back.

That's because Romero had {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs} for a royal flush in just the second hand of his 2022 Main Event. Monicatti had a laugh and flipped over {a-Spades}{3-Diamonds}, soundly beaten.

Wilson Picks Off Bluff

Nível 1 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante
Brock Wilson
Brock Wilson

Brock Wilson found himself involved in a hand out of the small blind against a big blind player and the button.

Both blinds checked after the {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{3-Spades} flop and the button continued for 600. Wilson called while the big blind folded to generate heads-up action.

Both players checked on the {k-Hearts} turn to see the {a-Clubs} river. Wilson checked for a third time and his opponent, unwilling to go to a cheap showdown, tossed 2,000 into the middle.

Wilson re-checked his cards and seemed poised to release his holding but changed his mind at the final moment, calling instead. The button showed {j-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} for the bluff while Wilson revealed he held {5-Hearts}{5-Clubs} for the tough call to scoop the pot.

Better Boat For Kanit

Nível 1 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante
Mustapha Kanit
Mustapha Kanit

Three nines were hitching a ride on a board that read {9-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{9-Hearts} with a pot of about 7,500 stewing in the middle.

Action was on Mustapha Kanit in middle position who thought for some time before over-betting the pot to 8,500. Bill Ingram was on the button and said "Well I'm not gonna fold a full house" and tossed in the chips.

Kanit showed the {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts} which beat Ingram's full house of {7-}{6-}.

"Good hit," said Ingram as Kanit gathered the chips.

Break Time

Nível 1 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante
Andreas Kniep
Andreas Kniep

Players have been sent on their first 20-minute break of the day. They will return to blinds of 200/300 with a 300 big blind ante.

Though the field started the day 300 big blinds deep, that did not prevent high-level action from taking place, with early eliminations and big hands. Of note is the fact that Andreas Kniep has already managed to run up a big stack in his bid to make two consecutive deep runs in the WSOP Main Event. Find below highlights from the first two hours of play.

Raminder Singh
Raminder Singh

Raminder Singh is chipping up in the early going.

Singh, born in India but resides in Florida, has more than $1,700,000 in recorded earnings.

He took down the RunGOOD All-Stars Pro-Am Invitational Entry here in Las Vegas last December.

Singh also has a long list of cashes and victories just this year.

With 22,000 already in the middle on the {3-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{10-Spades}{4-Spades} river, Singh overbet to 31,000 and forced a fold.

He is already well over his starting stack with that pot.
