Play was slow and steady on Day 1b of the Main Event at the 2022 World Series of Poker.

The marquee $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em World Championship event saw another slew of top players from around the globe. There were a total of 880 entries on Day 1b, with 634 advancing to Day 2. This brings the total number of entries so far to 1,780.

Atop the leaderboard is Patrick Hagenlocher (332,800) from Queens, New York. He has $87,082 in recorded earnings but he could be looking at a much bigger payday if his pace continues. He said he was in shock and gave a shout-out to his wife and daughter back home. He also wanted to dedicate this tournament to his other daughter Izzy, who passed away a few years ago.

"I feel like it could be (destiny)," he said. "This is my third time playing the main event. The furthest I went was deep in Day 3."

Former NFL star and three-time Pro Bowl cornerback Antoine Winfield had gotten his remaining 6,700 chips in from the cutoff and was at risk of elimination against a player in early position.

Opponent: {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}

Winfield was looking to win the flip, and the board ran out {10-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{9-Spades} to secure his double-up and keep him in contention for the gold bracelet.

Hanson Crushes Live Poker to Make a Late Push

Nível 5 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante
Bart Hanson
Bart Hanson

From under the gun, a player raised to 1,500. Action folded all the around to Bart Hanson in the big blind, who made the call.

The flop brought {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{3-Spades}, Hanson checked it over to his opponent who continued for 2,000. Hanson check-raised to 5,600 and his opponent called.

The turn fell the {2-Spades} and Hanson led for 11,000. The under-the-gun player called quickly as he stared at Hanson.

The river paired the board with the {3-Diamonds}. Hanson looked at his opponent's stack and went for a healthy bet of 35,000, about half of his opponent's stack. Once again, he was called within a few seconds.

Hanson rolled over {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds} for the flopped set that turned into a boat for the winner.

The heads-up action was picked up on the turn with a board of {9-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{5-Clubs} on the felt and around 11,000 in the pot.

The button fired for 8,100. Lincoln Kennedy went into the tank for a minute or so, before announcing a call.

On the {8-Spades} river, both players checked. Kennedy showed {a-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}, good for a pair of nines, and his opponent mucked his hand. The former consensus All-American scooped the pot and added to his stack.

Kribben Soaring on Day 1B, Scores Another Knockout

Nível 5 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante
Matthias Kribben
Matthias Kribben

With the pot already over 35,000, the {10-Diamonds} came on the river, completing the {2-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} board.

With flushes, straights, and full houses all out there, Matthias Kribben flicked in a green 25,000 chip from the hijack, putting his opponent all in for his last 23,000.

The cutoff shook his head and was visibly frustrated and sat there for a couple of minutes unable to get away from his hand. He finally called and Kribben showed {j-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} for the made flush.

The cutoff slammed his {k-Clubs}{9-Clubs} on the table, which had made a straight on the turn, and swiftly walked out, muttering expletives all the way out the door while Kribben stacked his newly-found chips.

Another player on the table joked that Kribben should play bounty tournaments as he has knocked out scores of players on Day 1B.

Hagenlocher Busts Another, Destiny On His Side

Nível 5 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante
Patrick Hagenlocher
Patrick Hagenlocher

Action started with tournament big-stack Patrick Hagenlocher looking at an all-in bet from his opponent on the turn. The board read {2-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{j-Spades} and his opponent had bet 19,000 into a pot of about 30,000. After some thought, Hagenlocher made the call.

Patrick Hagenlocher: {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs}
Opponent: {j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}

Hagenlocher was in rough shape drawing to two outs against his opponent's better pair and flush draw.

The river, to the table's shock, was the {9-Hearts}, making trips for Hagenlocher.

"It's destiny," said a tablemate. "Were you even surprised?"

Hagenlocher smiled as he raked yet another pot on his path to the top of the leaderboard.

Hong Falls To Flush

Nível 5 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante
Jinho Hong
Jinho Hong

Jinho Hong opened to 1,500 from early position and faced a three bet to 4,600 from a player in late position. Hong made the call to send the two players to the flop.

Hong checked on a flop of {10-Hearts}{2-Spades}{2-Diamonds} and called when his opponent continued for 3,700.

The {5-Diamonds} turn saw Hong check for a second time and his opponent again bet, this time a much chunkier 11,400. Hong counted out his stack before announcing all in for 28,700. The late position player did not appear happy but made the call.

Jinho Hong: {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}
Late Position Player: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}

Though Hong was ahead, he would need to fade a significant number of outs heading to the river. Unfortunately for him he was unable to do so as the {q-Diamonds} landed on the felt, eliciting cries of "Yes! Yes! Yes!" from the late position player. Hong, meanwhile, who, after taking down the Wynn Summer Classic $3,500 NLH Championship last week said he had his eyes set on the Main Event bracelet, will have to wait for another year to take his shot at poker immortality.

Patrick Hagenlocher also became the first player in the field to surpass the 300,000 mark while Michael Banducci caught some heat to rise up the leaderboard. Below are some of the highlights from the previous two hours of play.

Liu Sends Margets Home

Nível 4 : Blinds 300/500, 500 ante
Leo Margets
Leo Margets

An early-position player raised and Shijia Liu three-bet to 3,200 from the hijack. Leo Margets, from the button, four-bet to around 8,500. The original raiser folded and Liu took his time before calling.

The flop came {3-Clubs}{7-Spades}{10-Hearts} and Liu checked over to Margets who continued for 5,500. Liu raised to 15,000 and Margets, after thinking for a minute, called.

The {5-Diamonds} arrived on the turn and both players would slowly tap the table.

On the {2-Diamonds} river, Liu took over a minute before putting in 45,000, which effectively put Margets all in.

Margets only had 38,500 left behind her and the Spanish WSOP bracelet winner took about two minutes before putting in a crying call.

Liu turned over {a-Spades}{a-Clubs} and Margets could only reply "Yup" as she tabled {q-Spades}{q-Clubs} and told the players at the table "Good luck!"

Meanwhile, Liu immediately becomes one of the biggest stacks in the red section with over 140,000.
